Michigan Capitol Confidential - Posts:"Michigan’s media continues to promote a narrative that taxpayers and voters aren’t contributing enough taxes to expect roads in better repair.
Some elected officials say the same.
In a recent MLive article, Democratic Sen. Curtis Hertel of East Lansing was asked about more road repairs.
“I think the legislature’s got to get serious about actual revenue increases,” Hertel said, according to MLive. “...We obviously all want to fix local roads. Some of us just want to pay for it.”
However, Michigan motorists are already paying more for roads.
Just three years ago last month, taxpayers began providing more revenue with a gas tax hike, from 19 cents per gallon to 26.3 cents per gallon, and a large vehicle registration tax.
Motorists are paying more than $600 million extra every year thanks to those tax increases."
