"...The U.S. House passed legislation Wednesday to reauthorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and boost funding each year, increasing from $300 million in 2021 to reach $475 million by 2026.
...Michigan’s representatives said the program, created by the Obama administration in 2009, is critical to cleaning up lakes, beaches and waterways and fighting invasive species like Asian carp.
...Great Lakes Task Force co-chairs U.S. Reps. Debbie Dingel, D-Dearborn, and Bill Huizenga, R-Zeeland, said the funding creates good-paying jobs and protects the health and beauty of the freshwater resource. 
..."The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative has a proven track record of success in West Michigan and throughout the Great Lakes region,” Huizenga said in a statement.
“A recent study by the University of Michigan found that every $1 invested from the GLRI has generated more than $3 in additional long-term economic activity..."
