"ANN ARBOR, MI - Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, is not COVID-19 in terms of viral severity, health officials say.
- But the pediatric illness is straining Michigan Medicine operations much like COVID-19 did.
- Hospital beds at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor are 100% full due to a surge in RSV cases, said Luanne Thomas Ewald, C.S. Mott and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital COO.
- Similar to COVID-19 hospitalizations filling hospital beds, RSV hospitalizations are forcing hospital leaders to find ways to increase bed capacity and bolster staffing to deal with the viral surge, Ewald said.
