Last week, France’s record heat wave alone was linked to roughly 𝟏,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬, 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 — and CBS Evening News just walked through the math.

Then CBS asked the obvious question: why not simply install air conditioning and save lives? The answer from its own featured expert was staggering — “𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦.” The reason? 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘵 ... 𝘴𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨.
