  • Perhaps Will should let the American people in on just what is so important about having Germany play a larger geopolitical role in the world -- it did that twice in the 20th century and we just paid tribute to the hundreds of thousands of American soldiers, sailors, and airmen who lost their lives in two large German wars.
  • And maybe Will can explain to the American people how the United States has benefited from NATO expansion, which has extended the American nuclear security umbrella to such vitally important countries as Montenegro, Slovenia, Albania, Romania, and North Macedonia, and cost American taxpayers plenty to make up for our European allies’ unwillingness to provide for their own common defense. Suddenly Finland, too, has become a country that Americans should fight and die for.

They were born in the wrong country. Wrong time. I also wept.-----A German WWII Cemetery in Normandy | History Traveler Episode 52

"Terrence Thorn--What this video failed to mention was that 80 percent of these soldiers never saw their 20th birthday. They were boys.
My high school son and I visited this cemetery on June 6, 2013.
After walking around for a while and reading the names of the fallen soldiers, the math of their birthdays and their recorded deaths overcame me and I wept.
Maybe because my son was that age at the time.
The 2 figures at the top of the mound on either side of the cross represent a mother and father.
For decades after the war, they would visit this cemetery on the birthday of their sons and grieve.
Yes, they were the enemy but few of them were Nazis.
They believed that they were patriots of the "Fatherland". 80 percent of the 21 thousand buried here were between 17 and 20 years old when they died.
The mound actually holds over 200 un-identified remains. Our visit to Normandy made us, as Americans, proud but profoundly sad at the same time.
What is up-lifting though, is the way France honors all soldiers who have fallen on French soil."

While the exact details of the plan remain unknown, estimates from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan think tank, suggest canceling $10,000 of student loan debt per borrower would cost taxpayers at least $230 billion. The CRFB believes such a plan would mostly benefit wealthier Americans ("those in the top half of the income spectrum"), worsen inflation, and ultimately leave the major problem of college tuition prices unsolved.

Nine Ways to Raise Fearful, Unhappy, and Woke Kids (Without Really Trying) - Intellectual Takeout

Nine Ways to Raise Fearful, Unhappy, and Woke Kids (Without Really Trying)

"...Here are just a few maneuvers that can help cast a storm cloud over the sunshine of childhood in this year of our trouble and turmoil.

  1. Discuss current events in front of your six-year-old. Bring up abortion, riots, and the war in Ukraine. Climate change in particular is apt to scare the pants off little Johnny and leave him in a state of terror. Knowing that the planet is going to implode because he’s been born will likely induce guilt for the remainder of his days—though that attitude may cost you grandchildren someday.
  2. Complain constantly about the high price of gas, groceries, and housing. These days, inflation is eating up our dollars like the Cookie Monster gobbling his favorite treats. Gripe about costs, and you’ll raise children who believe they are living in dire poverty. One healthy side effect of this delusion is that they may learn to pinch pennies early on and decide to make billionaires their heroes rather than actors or sports figures.
  3. Pay more attention to your cell phone than to the kids. This not-so-subtle act brings home the message that texting a friend or scrolling through social media is more important than tending to a scrapped knee or a missed homework assignment.
  4. Even better, give them access to electronic devices. Use your phone as a babysitter for hours every day. Allow them to play games on a screen rather than in the backyard, thus avoiding the dangers of mosquitoes, dirt, and falls.
  5. Best of all, allow them to take those screens to their rooms at bedtime. Here they can engage in snarky comments on social media, read about humankind going down the tubes, and stay awake into the wee hours of the morning. This fatigue alone will keep them down in the dumps during the daylight hours.
  6. Never give them chores. Don’t ask them to help with such tasks as laundry or meal preparations, either. This way, when they shamble out into the real world, they can suffer the trauma derived from the realization that no one is going to wait on them hand-and-foot.
  7. Ignore what they are learning in school. The fourth-grader exposed to critical race theory or gender identity in his classes will not only grow up depressed by society’s “injustices,” but will live in a constant state of rage as well. And he’ll have lots of company: a circle of whining friends.
  8. Expose them to today’s movie offerings. Almost every one of them is loaded with a cargo of drinking, profanity, violence, and sex. These tools steal childhood innocence, that ineffable barrier which often stands between hope and despair.
  9. Keep them away from fairy tales. Teach your children early that there are no knights on white horses or princesses wearing tiaras. These antiquated stories simply raise false expectations and guarantee future disappointment. Instead, bring them up to be liberated from illusion and dependent on no one except the government. Make the point that in the real world fairy tales are found only in books and that magic doesn’t exist..."

MIT Weighs In On Energy Storage --Francis
"As I’ve been pointing out now for a couple of years, the obvious gap in the plans of our betters for a carbon-free “net zero” energy future is the problem of massive-scale energy storage.
  • How exactly is New York City (for example) going to provide its citizens with power for a long and dark full-week period in the winter, with calm winds, long nights, and overcast days, after everyone has been required to change over to electric heat and electric cars — and all the electricity is supposed to come from the wind and sun, which are neither blowing nor shining for these extended periods?
  • Can someone please calculate how much energy storage will be needed to cover a worst-case solar/wind drought, what it will consist of, how long it has to last, how much it will cost, and whether it is economically feasible?
Nearly all descriptions by advocates of the supposed path to “net zero” — including the ambitious plans of the states of New York and California — completely gloss over this issue and/or deal with it in a way demonstrating total incompetence and failure to comprehend the problem.
