Campus insanity

Ace of Spades HQ: "Officials at the Ohio State University are investigating an OSU Mansfield librarian for "sexual harassment" after he recommended four conservative books for a freshman reading program"
Read the whole post. It's like something out of "Brave New World".

Campaign Stunt

Reality - In an Apparent Campaign Stunt, Granholm Reverses Stance: Calls for Eliminating the SBT by the Year's End: "When given the chance to lead, you abstained. When given the chance to sign a document that mattered, you chose to veto. "
If the MSM would report any of her perfidy, Jenny would be down 20 points by now

Dirty little secret

The "American" car industry is having one of its best years ever. Nissan, Honda, Chrysler, Toyota are booming. The MSM isn't interested in reporting what works, only in propping up what fails. Bummer.
Politics [Michigan]: "The Blame Game...Fact or Fiction?
A simple question: if federal trade, health and tax policy is to blame for the U.S. auto and manufacturing woes, why is The Chrysler Group doing so well...actually increasing market share last year by 5% and turning in a healthy profit in the U.S.?"

Money down the drain?

City moving ahead with arena bar/restaurant: "Lisman's arena management contract specifies that if a club room is built, its proceeds, like those of other concessions, would go to Lisman. However, his annual management fee would drop from $235,000 to $210,000. The $25,000 in annual savings would be used to pay for the cost of building the club room over a 15-year period. "
This is so wrong on so many levels:
1. Why are we taxpayers paying $235,000 to Lisman?
2. Who voted for this outrage?
3. If the City is going to manage the "Club Room", as the article infers, who will manage it, what will be their compensation, will The Chronicle report "freeby passes" given to city employees?
4. Where is there any evidence that the city of Muskegon has ever managed any "private" business successfully?

Don't increased gasoline taxes do the same thing?

Funny, you never see this type of article when tax increases are proposed.
WZZM 13 Grand Rapids - High gas prices affecting Michigan's billion dollar tourist industry:
Grand Rapids - With gas prices expected to hover around the three dollar mark again this summer, Michigan's travel industry is bracing for another tough travel season.
Sometimes the MSM recognizes the laws of supply and demand. And sometimes they sorta forget about 'em.

This seems a bit steep.

WZZM 13 Grand Rapids - MSU raises its student housing rates by 5.25%: "MSU raises its student housing rates by 5.25%
"College says room, board costs still lowest in state and Big Ten"
Ah, the old "musical chair" game of increasing prices until you're no longer "still the lowest".

Peep torture!

Peep Research: "As we plunge into the 21st century, it is time we take a closer look at the technological wonders we create. "
No Peeps were injured during the posting of this blog.

Tough broad....a couple of 'em.....

Debbie Schlussel: "Over the years, I've asked why annoying feminist activists like Martha Burk and Gloria Steinem whine about women not being members of a private golf club for billionaires and other trivialities. I've asked why Gloria Steinem blamed 9/11 attacks in which almost 3,000 Americans were murdered by Muslims on men (American men, not the 19 Arab Muslim men who did it). I've asked why they whine about these absurd things, but never a peep from them about the utter oppression and persecution of women throughout the Muslim world."
I'm pretty sure Perkie Katie might want to avoid these two powerhouses.

AirAmerica Death Watch!

4/5/2006 - WUSY Country At Top Of The List, Air America Off The Charts - Happenings - Chattanoogan.com: "WUSY with its country format remains at the top of the local radio world in the latest ratings.
WDOD-AM, which switched to a liberal Air America format, has dropped off the chart."
"I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Don't Listen to Me!"

Here's peeping at you, kid!

The American Princess: Great Moments In Rock And Roll History: "April 11, 2006
Great Moments In Rock And Roll History
As re-enacted by Peeps."
Hey! It's almost Easter. The American Princess (and Gordo) appears to be a peep-o-holic. The multi-culturists are trying to ban The Easter Bunny but I say "You’ll take my peeps when you pry them from my cold dead fingers!"

Sickening

Townhall.com :: Moral confusion by John Leo Mar 13, 2006: "Convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jama has been honored as a commencement speaker (via audiotape) at Antioch College, Evergreen State University, Occidental Univresity and the University of California-Santa Cruz."
Remember, these people are the "soul" of the democrat party today.

"hazing ritual"?

Wasn't like that when I was a kid....
Online Dating Sorority Sex Scandal: From Bigs Tampa Bay News: "TAMPA - This morning, Tampa Police raided the Sigma Delta Pi sorority house at Westborn College. Twenty three women age 19-24 were arrested on charges that included pandering, hazing violations, racketeering, and recording sexual acts without the permission of the participants.
As part of the initiation into the sorority, each of the 36 pledges were required to have sex or oral sex on a first date with 7 partners in a two week period according to district attorney Michael Watts. "These [partners] had to be men they did not know chosen from a popular online dating service. There is evidence that at least 2 of the senior girls in the sorority received in excess of $2500 in checks from men who were pre-selected as sex-dates for the pledges.
It is suspected that all 36 of the pledges who are now Sigma Omicron Pie sisters went on sex-dates with a total of more than 250 different men. Two of the dates are reported to have been with high school seniors from nearby Shelby High School.
According to reports, at least 3 men were informed of the hazing ritual. They then created profiles at the online dating site and paid the senior sorority girls to encourage the pledges to select them. These three men have been taken into custody and police expect more arrests to be made by the conclusion of the investigation.
At the scene, police seized computers that had more than 20 hours of digital videos recordings of the pledges engaged in sexual intercourse in the sorority house.

Dangerous drugs!

Bummer, they're gonna have to take down the "Drug Free School Zone" signs.
Advil in School Leads to Suspension:
Last week, a student at Greece Arcadia High School got an Advil, an over-the-counter pain medication, from his girlfriend during school; both were suspended. A spokesperson for the district said Greece is concerned about students abusing prescription or over-the-counter drugs. "If a student has a bottle of ibuprofen in class, the teacher would have no idea if there is more than just ibuprofen in the bottle."
"Is that an Advil in your pocket or are just unhappy to see me?"

Wait a minute!

Maybe we're not doomed!
Telegraph Opinion There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998: "There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998
By Bob Carter
For many years now, human-caused climate change has been viewed as a large and urgent problem. In truth, however, the biggest part of the problem is neither environmental nor scientific, but a self-created political fiasco. Consider the simple fact, drawn from the official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, that for the years 1998-2005 global average temperature did not increase (there was actually a slight decrease, though not at a rate that differs significantly from zero). "

Hello....MSM??? Did you see this?

Sheehan, Chavez bash Bush, Iraq war : "Cindy Sheehan, who gained international fame when she camped outside President Bush's ranch in an anti-war protest, plans to pitch her tent again, Venezuela's president said Sunday as he urged activists worldwide to help bring down "the U.S. empire."
Seems like this might be kinda important to report to us in flyover country.

We're doomed!

Peaktalk - KYOTO: CANADA DROPS OUT: "KYOTO: CANADA DROPS OUT
Canada's new conservative government has made it clear that it will abandon the plans made in accordance with targets under the Kyoto Protocol. ...... These efforts are supported by a letter from 60 leading international climate change experts who once more reiterated the near impossibility to seperate the various causes that are contributing to climate change.
I'm buyin' spam and beer!

Didn't see this in the news.......

Instapundit.com -: "GOOD NEWS: 'Two of every three eligible soldiers continue to re-enlist, putting the Army, which has endured most of the fighting in Iraq, ahead of its annual goal. The Army was 15% ahead of its re-enlistment goal of 34,668 for the first six months of fiscal year 2006, which ended March 31.'
UPDATE: Reader Tom Barry emails:
Perhaps you would like to compare and contrast the US Army's ability to meet its recruiting goals versus major newspapers ability to match their circulation goals from the prior year? Guess which one is doing better?
Doesn't the MSM tell us there is no good news to report?

TV predicts our next election?

Debbie Schlussel: "Some conservatives, like Matt Drudge, are up in arms that a Democrat (played by Jimmy Smits), won the Presidential Election on last night's 'The West Wing.' On this liberal show, that's hardly a suprise."
Debbie Schlussel has a very interesting take. Too bad GOPers don't watch the show.

Do the right thing?

La Shawn Barber's Corner Is Duke Stripper Channeling Tawana Brawley?: "As I mentioned before, black men raping white women is much more common than the other way around, but when was the last time a football team canceled its season? Other college rapes, that is, black-on-white rapes, don't get a fraction of coverage, such as this one or this one. Remember thuggish Lawrence Phillips, a black football player who had a penchant for beating up white women? The media barely reported those stories"
As this story onionizes, one wonders if the prosecutor, up for election, will search for the truth or cover his ass..... one wonders, doesn't one.....

Stealth amigos?

Michelle Malkin: HERE WE GO AGAIN: "They're baaack. Illegal alien public relations experts are advising their followers to put aside the Mexican flags and tone down their radicalism, but many reconquistadors and their friends can't help themselves. Hat tip to John A. for the protest photos today from Dallas:"
The democrats have an odd.... no, make that consistant interest in illegal votes.

They're not all hard working lovers of freedom!

No easy answers on immigration conundrum: "Go ahead, try it. In Michelle Malkin's book Invasion, she recounts the tale of two fellows who in August 2001 pulled into a 7-Eleven parking lot in Falls Church, Va., in search of fake ID from the illegal-alien assistance network that hangs around there. Luis Martinez-Flores, who'd been living here illegally since 1994, took them along to the local DMV, supplied them with a fake address and falsely certified they lived there. The very next day, the two guys returned with two pals of their own, and used their own brand-new state ID on which the ink was not yet dry to obtain in turn brand-new state ID for their buddies. A couple of weeks later, all four of them used their Virginia ID to board American Airlines Flight 77 at Dulles Airport and plowed it into the Pentagon."

Why the media coverup?

Wowie Zahawie By Christopher Hitchens: "
Sorry everyone, but Iraq did go uranium shopping in Niger."
Yet more proof of criminal media bias.

WaPo calls Wilson a liar

Ace of Spades HQ: "The material that Mr. Bush ordered declassified established, as have several subsequent investigations, that Mr. Wilson was the one guilty of twisting the truth. In fact, his report supported the conclusion that Iraq had sought uranium."
Took 'em long enough!

No Duke DNA says DA!

My Way - Sports News: "DNA testing failed to connect any members of the Duke University lacrosse team to the alleged rape of a striper, attorneys for the athletes said Monday.
Citing DNA test results delivered by the state crime lab to police and prosecutors a few hours earlier, the attorneys said the test results prove their clients did not sexually assault and beat a stripper hired to perform at a March 13 team party"
The DA says no DNA.
Sure sounding like Tawana Brawley redux.

This explains alot

New York Daily News - News & Views - All play, no pay for Page Fix: "The New York Post 'Page Fix' scandal grew yesterday as those familiar with the gossip page painted a picture of an out-of-control institution where lavish gifts are routinely bestowed on columnist Richard Johnson and his staffers.
Johnson was feted at a bachelor party last month that cost in excess of $50,000 hosted by soft-core porn (Girls Gone Wild) king Joe Francis at his palatial estate in Punta Mita, on Mexico's glorious Pacific coast. More than 2,000 miles from New York, the resort area boasts 343 days of 80-degree sunshine."
Payolla in the print media! Who'd of guessed!

Follow the money!

Property tax breaks trim Detroit's revenue: "DETROIT A newspaper's analysis says Detroit loses more than 63 (M) million dollars a year in revenue because of property tax breaks for people moving into new houses, condominiums and lofts.
The Detroit News says the tax breaks have cost the city and Detroit Public Schools more than 400 (M) million dollars since 2000.
City planners say the tax breaks are necessary because Detroit's property tax rate can make living in the city unaffordable.
Maybe someone ought to be lookin' at who gave the taxbreaks and who got the tax breaks? Hmmm......

New Treasurer for Michigan

Reality - More about Granholm appointee, Robert Kleine, surfaces: "He thought the SBT was a perfectly good tax in its original form
He thought the Governor's SBT proposal was the "best one that I've seen yet"
He thinks the Governor's tax on insurers was too much.
But he thinks it's sound policy to punish success in the marketplace because "manufacturers are mobile, they can move to other states. Service businesses can't"
He thinks Michigan has "the worst economy in the country"
He believes we should raise business and personal taxes because "our taxes now are at a 40 year low"
TheRealMichigan does some nice homework on this idiot.

Well, duh!

Study: Obese People Lack Health Awareness: "Obese people have a blind spot when it comes to their own weight problem, according to a study that showed only 15 percent of people in that category view themselves as obese.
Such a lack of self-awareness can be deadly.
The "official" definition of obesity is 20% over some money grubbing researcher's definition of the "perfect" weight. Most folks think 20% overweight is, well overweight not "OFFICIALLY OBESE". Ahnold is obese by these standards. Much like the definition of "THE POOR", another worthless study imparting zero wisdom.

Stunning!

lgf: Ahmadinejad Will Visit Germany: "Ahmadinejad Will Visit Germany
You might think that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, with his talk of wiping Israel off the map and his insane Holocaust denial, would not be welcome in Germanyof all places.
But youd be wrong, because in the interest of being a good host, Germany will welcome Ahmadinejad to the World Cup soccer games: Appeasing Oppressors: A Proud German Tradition Continues."

When are parents going to reclaim their children's education?

I'm worried the answer is ....never...
Read the entire article. Even if you wake up every morning hating "W", this vapid, idiology-as-education has got to make anyone who cares for their child's future quake in their boots.
Montgomery Is Criticized Over Credit for Students:The Montgomery County schools' decision to grant students community service credit for attending Monday's immigration rights protest is raising concern among some parents as well as activists who say officials should focus on education, not political advocacy. "Montgomery is the only Washington area school system offering students credit for taking part in the event, to be held on the Mall -- a decision Superintendent Jerry D. Weast said is consistent with how the system has operated."
