Who'd of guessed?

The liberal MSM was too busy to report this bit of good news.
BREITBART.COM - Budget Deficit Drops to $250 Billion: "The federal budget estimate for the fiscal year just completed dropped to $250 billion, congressional estimators said Friday, as the economy continues to fuel impressive tax revenues.
The Congressional Budget Office's latest estimate is $10 billion below CBO predictions issued in August and well below a July White House prediction of $296 billion.
The improving deficit picture _ Bush predicted a $423 billion deficit in his February budget _ has been driven by better-than-expected tax receipts, especially from corporate profits, CBO said. "

Olbermann Watch: The 18-Second Gap

Olbermann Watch: The 18-Second Gap: "The 18-Second Gap
On Friday, Countdown reported on the latest allegations against George Allen. We noted that they did so by rerunning a report that aired Thursday on Hardball. David Shuster interviewed a woman who said she heard Allen using racial slurs.
But as we revealed exclusively on Olbermann Watch, the Countdown version differed from the original Hardball broadcast in one significant respect. Snipped from the taped piece were a series of questions that revealed the political affiliation of accuser Pat Waring. We will disclose now what Keith Olbermann did not want you to hear.
From the transcript of Thursday's Hardball, this is the exchange that was censored from Friday's night's Hour of Spin:
SHUSTER: You volunteer, you acknowledge you are a registered Democrat.
WARING: I am indeed.
SHUSTER: You volunteer at the local Democratic office?
WARING: I do.
SHUSTER: Once a week?
WARING: Once a week,
SHUSTER: Couple hours?
WARING: Yes.
SHUSTER: What do you do for them?
WARING I sit there and answer the phone and give people signs.
Obviously, MSNBC believed that the partisan bias of the accuser was relevant if viewers were to fairly assess her credibility. Just as obviously, somebody decided that this exchange, roughly 18 seconds long, had to be removed when the piece was shown on Countdown. Result: the accuser's background as a Democrat activist was never disclosed to the audience.
Who ordered that a pre-taped piece should be sent back to the editing bay, just to remove these particular 18 seconds? Was it notorious quote-doctorer Shuster who decided this report should be doctored? If so, why a special, edited version just for Countdown? Or is it more likely that the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann "

GOPers deserve to lose

My Way News - Foley E-Mails 1st Reported in Fall '05: "Rep. Thomas Reynolds, head of the House Republican election effort, said Saturday he told Speaker Dennis Hastert months ago about concerns that a fellow GOP lawmaker had sent inappropriate messages to a teenage boy. Hastert's office said aides referred the matter to the proper authorities last fall but they were only told the messages were 'over-friendly.'
Reynolds, R-N.Y., was told about e-mails sent by Rep. Mark Foley and is now defending himself from Democratic accusations that he did too little. Foley, R-Fla., resigned Friday after ABC News questioned him about the e-mails to a former congressional page and about sexually suggestive instant messages to other pages."

Illegals granted Social Security-Nation/Politics-The Washington Times, America's Newspaper: "The Senate voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents.
'There was a felony they were committing, and now they can't be prosecuted. That sounds like amnesty to me,' said Sen. John Ensign, the Nevada Republican who offered the amendment yesterday to strip out those provisions of the immigration reform bill. 'It just boggles the mind how people could be against this amendment.'
The Ensign amendment was defeated on a 50-49 vote.
'We all know that millions of undocumented immigrants pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for years and sometimes decades while they work to contribute to our economy,' said Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican.
'The Ensign amendment would undermine the work of these people by preventing lawfully present immigrant workers from claiming Social Security benefits that they earned before they were authorized to work in our community,' he said. 'If this amendment were enacted, the nest egg that these immigrants have worked hard for would be taken from them and their families.'
Mr. Ensign was among 44 Republicans and five Democrats who voted to block such payouts.
'It makes no sense to reward millions of illegal immigrants for criminal behavior while our Social Security system is already in crisis,' said Sen. Jim DeMint, South Carolina Republican. 'Why in the world would we endorse this criminal activity with federal benefits? The Senate missed a big opportunity to improve this bill, and I doubt American seniors will be pleased with the result.'

Proof of Bush/Rove free speech supression!

....Maybe not......
The Indepundit: "EARLIER in the week, I came across another protest, at the corner of 15th and Constitution on the National Mall.

Billboard calling for impeachment of President Bush.
The first thing that caught my eye was the mobile billboard calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney. I was amazed that here in fascist Amerikkka, only two blocks from the White House, such a blatant display of disloyalty to the Supreme Commander was allowed to stand. But no government storm troopers were in evidence, and the passing tourists appeared completely unfazed.
Indeed, I later learned that this billboard had been in place for almost two weeks, as part of a grand project called Camp Democracy, a three-week anti-war festival on the National Mall. This project has drawn dozens of people to this prime location, in an orgy of hate for the current administration. "

Planes are expected to be packed fuller than at anytime since World War II, when the airlines helped transport troops. Fares are rising. Service frills are disappearing.
Logjams at airport security checkpoints loom as the federal government strains to keep screener jobs filled. The usual violent summer storms are expected to send the air traffic control system into chaos at times, with flight delays and cancellations cascading across the country.
And many airline employees, after years of pay cuts and added work, say they are dreading the season ahead.
Those workers, and there are about 70,000 fewer of them than in 2002, will be handling more than 100 million more passengers this year than they did four years ago. "

TheChronicle Bias Watch

Amazing LTE in today's Chronicle deemed worthy by the censors at the local newspaper titled "Coast Guard ranges may be a political ploy". The writer states that Congressman Hoekstra is in a tight race for re-election. Not true. He then suggests that "After 60 years of relative peace on the great lakes....." the Coast Guard Great Lakes training is a plot by Bush and his minions to scare "us" for political gain. No proof. Just paranoia. TheChronicle commissars printed it (but not on the web).... so it must have some redeeming value...right!

This has to be sarcasm.......doesn't it? Wait till they start turning cable TV into car gas........

What about the children?

I'm confused. DeVos isn't elected to any office and he's criticized for not ending the strike? Granholm is criticized. "Children's education" is reasserted as paramount? But there is no mention that this strike is illegal and the teachers are breaking the law? Liberal-think. It's a scary thing.

Chronicle editorial:
disgrace: "Governor needed to intervene in strike
This being an election year, no politician wants to irritate special interest groups friendly to the cause. However, the Detroit teacher's strike wasn't about politics, it was about children's educations.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm was pretty much a non-player in the ongoing dispute, which passed the two-week mark before a judge stepped in and ordered teachers back to work. She needed to knock some heads together early on.
Nor did Granholm's opponent this fall, Republican candidate Dick DeVos, do much better. After days of silence, the DeVos campaign released a candidate statement late last week calling on the Legislature to change the laws on teacher strikes to allow a single parent in any school district to trigger sanctions. That was an extreme overreaction in our book, but at least it was a reaction.
Granholm's reluctance to engage the combatants in this fight could have had unintended consequences. One of the options before Wayne County Circuit Judge Susan Borman was to rule the current state law unconstitutional, leaving districts all over the state once again vulnerable to teacher walk-outs.
With forced negotiations now under way, it's better for teachers, districts and the children they serve to resolve this mess. And the governor needs to stand ready to help out. "

Classic liberal response from The Chronicle

Mayhem on the football field was a local disgrace: "A big problem turned out to be the lack of any security at the field, which should have been a requirement even if there had been no hints of the violence to come. Adding security at public events is a common-sense approach to avoiding potential problems, and is used by most organizations."
No blame to, or even mention of, the parents and thugs. Just blame to the "organization". "Organizations cause riots, not people".

Gas price conspiracy!

Some gasoline price facts for you conspiracy nuts. In every election from 1988 to 2004 (Presidential and off year) gasoline prices increased from June 31 to Oct 31. Except 1988 (no change) and Bush's election in 2000 (big decline in gas prices but not to anyone's real benefit since neither Bush or Gore were incumbents).
See the pattern? Neither do I.

Thank God for experts!

Let's see. Four months ago the experts told us "no way" gas prices will go down. I can't wait till their next prediction.....
Gas prices: No relief in sight - May. 19, 2006: "But given that the economy grew at a robust 4.8 percent in the first quarter, it's unlikely that $3 gas will lower demand enough to push gasoline prices back to $2.50 anytime soon."

A serious case of "don't get it".

Maybe it's because it's their job to make those decisions?
Message to editor: Don't insult readers: "GOP, Van Woerkom don't trust the voters
I don't think our state Sen. Gerald Van Woerkom trusts me, and neither do his fellow Republicans in the Senate. In fact, they don't seem to trust any of us. Why else would they suddenly decide to repeal the Single Business Tax (without much discussion or making any provisions for replacing the money) instead of putting it before the voters?
The SBT made up a large chunk of the state's operating fund, giving money to the public services we all use and depend on. This wasn't the first time the Republican-dominated Legislature has pushed through legislation that may or may not be a good idea.
I want a state senator in Lansing who is working for us, caring about us, acting on behalf of constituents, not in lieu of them. I'm voting for Julie Dennis in November.

When it was over, Federer returned to the locker room, cracked open the champagne and spent an hour with perhaps the only other athlete on the planet who understands such sheer domination. "

Broder "Thanks a lot, Democrats"

"What was lost [with the new Democratic plan for early primaries in Nevada and South Carolina] was any sense of public deliberation about the choice of the next president. In the general election, people have two months or more to evaluate two or maybe three candidates. In the early primaries, eight or 10 people may be vying. What is most needed is time -- and a place -- for them to be carefully examined. Historically, New Hampshire has fulfilled that responsibility. Voters there -- in both parties and especially among the numerous independents who also vote in the primary -- take their role seriously. They turn up at town meetings and they ask probing questions.... [But now] the country will be forced to witness the huge field of candidates flashing by in perpetual motion during the December holidays and the frantic first weeks of January, not standing still anywhere long enough to be measured for the job they are trying to win. Thanks a lot, Democrats" -- Washington Post columnist David Broder on the Democratic Party's plan to increase "diversity" by scheduling a more crowded slate of early primary races.

Dying prisoner must wait a month for hearing: "Gov. Jennifer Granholm asked the parole board to reconsider its earlier vote against releasing Ringleka. The board set the hearing in September, Granholm spokeswoman Liz Boyd said, because someone objected to the governor's request that it waive the usual 30-day waiting period....
Ringleka, 56, has served seven years of a 20-year sentence after pleading guilty to second degree murder in the 1999 death of her husband, Howard, of Stanton.Ringleka, 56, of Stanton, was sentenced to at least 20 years in prison in October 2000 after she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the killing of her husband, Howard. Her father and stepmother said she was abused by her husband. Her lover, Weldon Mosby, and a hitman they hired, Eric McMurtry, of Detroit, are serving life in prison for the ax murder. A third man, Jerome Gass, of Detroit, is serving 9 1/2 to 15 years for his part in the slaying.

Teachers' pact includes 2.5% raise, sharing of health costs: "The tentative contract calls for 2.5 percent salary increases for teachers in each of the three years of the contract, including retroactive to the 2005-06 school year, and 177 student days and 185.5 teacher days for the next two school years. The number of student days remained the same as the 2005-06 school year and the number of teacher days was reduced by one.
Teachers will keep their union-affiliated MESSA Supercare I health insurance, but they will share in some of the costs for the low-deductible Blue Cross plan. "
(*7.7% increase over 2 year's ago. Not too bad for 185.5 days work...less sick days. personal days, etc.)

Junk science on the march!

Clock's ticking for phosphorus on Ottawa lawns: "Commissioner Jane Ruiter of Ferrysburg spoke in support.
'It's very reasonable,' she said. 'A more comprehensive plan would be desirable, but it is a good start.' "
They are warning us. Are we listening?

Another reason we should privatize as much as we can!

Imagine how this would be reported if a private company had allowed this series of sewage spills....
Sewage spill contaminates Mona Lake, Little Black Creek: "The Muskegon County Health Department has advised residents to avoid contact with Mona Lake and Little Black Creek west of Getty Street, following a Thursday evening sewage spill at a county wastewater pump station. "

Please pardon my lack of compassion....

Interesting letter to the Chronicle

not likely to get published. Free speech for me...but not for thee....
They can't handle the truth!

Mr. David Kolb,

James Q. Wilson, (teacher at Harvard, UCLA, and Pepperdine) in the Wall Street Journal of August 21, says that even if the wiretapping is considered against the FISA act, it is definitely not unconstitutional. The Constitution was never intended to be a suicide pact and the ACLU has no standing to bring the suit unless they can prove they were adversely affected. The FISA act can easily be righted by passage of another law by Congress.
If this is unconstitutional in time of war, then how can we open mail, detain suspected terrorists, and inspect any packages or baggage of people entering this country?

Now you have to get on the case of Christians for not getting up in arms about the persecution of same by Chinese Communists. If you would read Christian publications like "World Magazine", you would know that this subject has been brought up time and again over the years by them and other Christian publications.
It was because of the ceaseless reporting of the atrocities against Christians by Muslims in Africa that it was finally picked up by the mainstream media and was finally then determined to be a real problem.
"World" has also stated that at this time in history, more Christians are being persecuted and killed for their faith than at any time in history. I haven't seen that reported in the mainstream media either.
So maybe if you would get your nose out of the liberal hate blogs and read something else you could come up with more balanced editorials.

Sincerely,

Stephen H. Sikkenga

The people have spoken!

Alaska Governor Latest Incumbent Ousted: "The defeat of Republican Gov. Frank Murkowski in Alaska's GOP primary may have resulted from missteps throughout his first term - but vulnerable incumbents should take heed, political observers said Wednesday."
Classy commentary by "political experts". The moke finished last in a 3 way race and this "journalist" suggests he may have pissed off his constituents? Brilliant analysis........

Jeepers, how tough would it be to find out why these worthless books cost so much? Maybe the monopoly and educator's ethics out of whack?
