Michigan attorney general says Kwame Kilpatrick should resign: "Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox said Wednesday that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick should resign because he is a liar and a race-baiter 'on par with David Duke and George Wallace' and no longer fit for office.
Cox told WJR-AM he was shocked by the black leader's televised use of the N-word and his appeal for support while attacking opponents as racist.
'I thought his statements were reprehensible,' said Cox, who is white. 'It was race-baiting on par with David Duke and George Wallace — all to save his political career.'"

Kruse Kronicle: Taxing Questions

Kruse Kronicle: Taxing Questions: "Finally, keep in mind the New York Times article two weeks a ago that pointed out that while the bottom quintile has $9,974 in income per household a year it spends $18,153. That means non-cash assistance (as well draws on savings in the case of retired or unemployed payers) nearly doubles the actual income of the bottom quintile.
Rather than populist outcry over 'tax cuts for the wealthy,' maybe we need to look at the whole package of consequences that come from tax policy. Is the final objective really to have all taxes paid by the top 1% of society?"

Fallen girl's courage had huge effect on Neitzel

Greenandwhite.com: Fallen girl's courage had huge effect on Neitzel: "Just like every other Saturday in the fall, 11-year-old Natalie Freiburger of Charlotte was playing soccer with her youth team.
Two days later, she was diagnosed with what her mother described as 'a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer.'"...
Natalie was such a Neitzel fan, that after she was diagnosed - and got her head shaved - she had a picture taken of herself to emulate a picture of Neitzel pumping his fists in an MSU win over Wisconsin last season.
The pictures hung side by side, on the door of her hospital room.
Neitzel and Natalie began communicating frequently on the Web page and via e-mail. He visited her on Christmas Eve, gave her a hat and a Sparty doll, let her wear his letter jacket.
She told him she had one concern - how her parents would be able to cope with her death. That struck Neitzel, as it had her parents.

District may seek bond issue for $8.47 million in upgrades - mlive.com

District may seek bond issue for $8.47 million in upgrades - mlive.com: "The district is finishing up $4.2 million in improvements to security, technology -- including computers, video equipment and a phone system -- and transportation. The improvements are financed by a 0.65-mill, 10-year tax hike approved by voters in 2005.
At that same time, voters approved a 1-mill, 10-year sinking fund for about $10 million in capital improvements, such as roofs, boilers and parking lots.
Babbitt said there are still upgrades and enhancements that are needed. They include safety and security, such as more security cameras and keyless entry doors; buses; technology upgrades; a new performing arts classroom at the middle school; and at the high school, modernizing and expanding the 50-year-old main gymnasium, and installing artificial turf at the stadium.
These improvements could be done without asking voters to approve a bond, but would put immense pressure on the general fund, and couldn't be done without 'dramatic' cuts to programs, he said."

Journalistic malpractice!

Our socialist newspaper treats exploding farm prices/profits as a wondrous event.

Winter-wheat plantings rise with price - Muskegon Chronicle - MLive.com: "Michigan corn prices are up 41 percent from January 2007, and soybeans are up 69 percent. Beer vs Food!

I like food.

I also like beer.

I'm also aware that we have a law in Michigan that required stores to give 10 times the difference of the mispricing.

But when I bought a case of beer at Walmart the price charged was different from the sticker on the case.

When I brought my proof to the supervisor, she told me that alcohol wasn't covered by the law.

Anyone know any different?

Evil pharma?

Interesting.

Sure refutes a lot of what we hear EVERYWHERE.

Why can't we just fund R&D from pharmaceutical advertising budgets?: "People who rail against the pharmaceutical industry are fond of noting that about 20% of industry revenues go to marketing, with the implication that this is all wasted on advertising baldness cures during Golden Girls reruns. But just the top ten firms in the pharmaceutical industry took in about $350 billion in revenue in 2007, 20% of which is $70 billion. The entire US expenditure on advertising by all companies in all media forms totaled something like $150 billion in 2007. I know it seems like every other commercial you see is for Botox, but most advertising is not done by pharmaceutical firms.
In fact, advertising is only a small fraction of that marketing expense. Over half of it expense consists of free samples, the offering of which seems to me like an unalloyed public good."

"relatively restrained"?

We're getting killed in the "tax-out/spending-in war"!

My God. The entire state is becoming Detroit-like in its blind belief that democrats will stop being democrat-like.

Car-eating potholes ahead Freep.com Detroit Free Press: "Michigan's congressional delegation, as it turns out, is relatively restrained compared to other states: The earmarks they put in the current bill work out to $53 per Michigander, compared to a national average of $86. But add in the fact that Michigan remains a donor state, getting back only 91-92 cents of every dollar that state drivers send to Washington, and it becomes obvious that any distortion in federal financing has a big impact on money available for road maintenance here."

The "state lawmakers" who want to open the class action floodgates on businesses who comply with the FDA are democrat, job destroyers.
A redundancy, I'll admit.
