HSBC bids farewell to dollar supremacy

HSBC bids farewell to dollar supremacy
"The dollar looks awfully like sterling after the First World War,' said David Bloom, the bank's currency chief.
'The whole picture of risk-reward for emerging market currencies has changed.
It is not so much that they have risen to our standards, it is that we have fallen to theirs.
It used to be that sovereign risk was mainly an emerging market issue but the events of the last year have shown that this is no longer the case.
Look at the UK – debt is racing up to 100pc of GDP,' he said"

It was not her fault and her name was still stated.
The last editor withheld a city commissioners name who accidently killed someone while driving for months.
Odd?"

Look how they cover the "white cop-black serial perp" story.

Maybe we can get a nifty race riot with some cool burning and Jenny will give us a visit!

Wow, we'd be almost as cool as Benton Harbor!

But we read nothing about the impending bankruptcy of our county. And our cities here in Muskegon.

The "new" Chronicle is a more vapid version of the old "county corruption...whatutalkinabout" Chronicle with a smaller carbon footprint.

Imagine the awards the Chronicle's reporters could win if they really investigated what is going on in our county and local cities/townships.

Two kids with a videocam took down the disgusting ACORN.

And there is NO ONE in Muskegon to report on the facts here?

Bummer Muskegon.

New Jobless Last Week At 530,000. AP Calls It Good News Because They Expected Higher! A Weekly Pattern Is Developing Here With "Unexpected" At Center

theblogprof: New Jobless Last Week At 530,000. AP Calls It Good News Because They Expected Higher
A Weekly Pattern Is Developing Here With 'Unexpected' At Center

The AP has used the word 'unexpectedly' in almost every release with regard to the economy.
Here are a few headlines and snippets from the AP in particular:

New jobless claims drop unexpectedly to 530,000 [9/24/2009]
New jobless claims drop unexpectedly to 545K [9/17/2009]
Construction spending rises unexpectedly [8/3/2009]
New jobless claims unexpectedly plunge to 601,000 [5/7/2009]

There are many more examples, but these beg the question: 'just what does the AP expect?'
Rule #1 of biased journalism - always keep expectations low.
The corollary to rule #1 is 'always keep expectations high when a Republican is in office.'"

Michigan Subsidies Fail

Michigan Subsidies Fail
"A central belief in Washington and most state capitals nowadays is that government should 'invest' in certain businesses—'clean tech,' say, or manufacturing—to drive job creation.
We hope it all turns out better than it has in Michigan.

For the past 14 years, Lansing politicians have offered $3.3 billion in tax credits through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and spent another $1.6 billion in outlays to create and retain jobs.

The subsidies have ranged from tax breaks for Hollywood, to money for new industrial plants, to millions for TV ads starring Jeff Daniels and Tim Allen talking about business and tourism in the state.

It's one of the largest experiments in smokestack chasing in American history, but one thing it hasn't done is create jobs.
An exhaustive new 100-page study by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, a Michigan think tank, has reviewed where all the money has gone and what came of it.

The study finds that for every 100 jobs that were promised with these tax credits over 14 years, only 29 arrived.

Dare we call this cash for clunkers?"

The Michigan Senate Fiscal Agency recently found that "if a film production company spent $10.0 million in Michigan, the State will gain less than $700,000 in income and sales tax revenues but will pay out about $4 million to the production company."

So in a state with the highest unemployment rate in the nation at 15%, taxpayers last year gave out $48 million in subsidies to Hollywood millionaires.

Almost $5 BILLION spent for this?

The rules murdering our troops

The rules murdering our troops
"When enemy action kills our troops, it's unfortu nate. When our own moral fecklessness murders those in uniform, it's unforgivable.
In Afghanistan, our leaders are complicit in the death of each soldier, Marine or Navy corpsman who falls because politically correct rules of engagement shield our enemies.
Mission-focused, but morally oblivious, Gen. Stan McChrystal conformed to the Obama Way of War by imposing rules of engagement that could have been concocted by Code Pink:

* Unless our troops in combat are absolutely certain that no civilians are present, they're denied artillery or air support.
When enemy action kills our troops, it's unfortunate. When our own moral fecklessness murders those in uniform, it's unforgivable.

* If any civilians appear where we meet the Taliban, our troops are to "break contact" -- to retreat.

These ROE are a cave-in to the Taliban's shameless propaganda campaign that claimed innocents were massacred every time our aircraft appeared overhead. (Afghan President Mohammed Karzai and our establishment media backed the terrorists.)

Read the entire column.
If our "president" won't allow us to win, it's time to bug out.

And fear for the world and our country that we have such hollow "leaders".

Liberal Lies About National Health Care, Part 5

Liberal Lies About National Health Care, Part 5
"But just to check my recollection, I looked up the Times' own coverage of the 1994 congressional races.

Republicans won a landslide election in 1994 based largely on the 'Contract With America,' which, according to the Times, promised 'tax cuts, more military spending and a balanced-budget amendment.' Far from complaining about Clinton incompetently failing to pass health care, the Times reported that Republicans were 'unabashedly claiming credit for tying Congress up in knots.'

These claims were immediately followed by ... oh, what was that word again? Now I remember ...

LANDSLIDE!

It was almost as if the voters agreed with the Republicans in opposing Clinton's risky health care scheme, then voted accordingly."

Rupert Cornwell: Stay and fight – or cut and run?
"Six months after proclaiming a new commitment to the war in Afghanistan, President Barack Obama
is under growing pressure to make what would amount to a U-turn in US policy and scale back America's commitment to a conflict that many experts
– and a majority of the public – now fear may be unwinnable.
The debate, which divides Mr Obama's most senior advisers, was thrown into stark relief by the leaked report of General Stanley McChrystal, the commander of US and allied forces in Afghanistan, warning that the war might be lost within a year without a further boost in troop strength and a major change in strategy to combat the spreading Taliban insurgency."

IRS severs ties with ACORN over scandal
"The IRS says it is severing ties with ACORN, the community activist group involved in a scandal after employees were caught on video giving advice to a couple posing as a prostitute and pimp.
The Internal Revenue Service said Wednesday it would no longer include ACORN in its volunteer tax assistance program.
The program offered free tax advice to about 3 million low- and moderate-income tax filers this spring.
The IRS said ACORN, which is short for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, provided help on about 25,000 returns"

APNewsBreak: ACORN Sues Filmmakers
"ACORN has filed a lawsuit against the makers of a hidden-camera video that showed employees of its Baltimore office giving tax advice to a man posing as a pimp and a woman posing as a prostitute.

The liberal activist group contends that the audio portion of the video was obtained illegally because Maryland requires two-party consent to create sound recordings.

The two employees seen in the video were fired after it was posted online. The lawsuit says the employees, Tonja Thompson and Shera Williams, suffered 'extreme emotional distress.'

The multimillion-dollar lawsuit seeks damages from James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles, who played the pimp and prostitute in the videos, and from conservative columnist Andrew Breitbart, who posted the videos on his Web site."

More Dem Censorship on Healthcare Debate
"Now, the Democratic Party (i.e., the Obama administration) wants to censor the mailings sent out by private insurance companies warning of benefit cuts in the Obamacare (i.e., government-run healthcare “reform” plan.)

The Obama administration’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a gag order late Monday aimed at Humana, Inc., a private insurer offering Medicare Advantage (MA) coverage to seniors.
Humana is also now under investigation for sending a letter to some of its 1.5 million MA customers warning them of the drastic cuts to the MA program in the current health care “reform” legislation.

CMS seeks to stop Humana from imparting vital information to their customers about the $500 billion worth of cuts in Medicare included in the Democrat health care bills."

Alaskan Oil Abundance Versus Washington's Wasted Billions: The case for new oil drilling in Alaska and off America's coasts

Alaskan Oil Abundance Versus Washington's Wasted Billions: The case for new oil drilling in Alaska and off America's coasts
"In Alaska, we have a pipeline which could flow another 1.5 million barrels per day—worth nearly $50 billion per year—from vast oil resources waiting to be drilled.
Oil appears to be abundant all the way across Northern Alaska from the Canadian border, where British Petroleum (BP) spent a billion dollars for new Canadian leases, to the shallow Chukchi Sea near the border with Russia, where test drilling is planned for next year.

New oil drilling in Alaska and off America's coasts would create hundreds of thousands of American jobs and billions of dollars in real tax revenue for Washington."

The Dog Ate Global Warming
"Now begins the fun. Warwick Hughes, an Australian scientist, wondered where that “+/–” came from, so he politely wrote Phil Jones in early 2005, asking for the original data.
Jones’s response to a fellow scientist attempting to replicate his work was, “We have 25 years or so invested in the work. Why should I make the data available to you, when your aim is to try and find something wrong with it?”

Reread that statement, for it is breathtaking in its anti-scientific thrust.
In fact, the entire purpose of replication is to “try and find something wrong.”
The ultimate objective of science is to do things so well that, indeed, nothing is wrong."

French police bulldoze immigrant camp near Calais
"French police razed a squalid camp used by illegal immigrants in scrubland near the English Channel port of Calais on Tuesday, using backhoes and buzz saws to clear away the precarious dwellings of a fragile population, mostly Afghan minors, who were led away stunned and sometimes sobbing.
The destruction of the site - known as 'the Jungle' - ends the migrants' dreams of a new life across the Channel in Britain but signifies what France hopes will be a new era in European immigration control. People who lived there tried night after night to sneak across the Channel.
'The law of the jungle cannot last eternally,' said Immigration Minister Eric Besson, who ordered the destruction of what he called 'a lawless zone where smugglers reign.'"

NHS told to find ways of saving £20 billion
"Mr Burnham told the King's Fund that detailing the costs of hospital treatment “will set out the scale of the efficiency and productivity challenge year on year, building up over time, with the most demanding savings coming later'.
He added that this would 'begin the process of showing how we realise the challenge of finding £15 billion to £20 billion of savings” in the period up to 2014, according to the Financial Times.
The savings are designed to help the NHS cope with greater demand for its services from the UK's ageing population and the higher cost of drugs and treatment because of medical advances."

Muskegon County residents urged to get seasonal flu shots
"And businesses such as Walgreens are advertising on their store signs that they have flu shot clinics.
Meanwhile, Dori Peters, public information officer for Public Health-Muskegon County, said Hackley Community Care Center of Muskegon and Muskegon Family Care in Muskegon Heights are authorized by the federal government to administer flu vaccines.
Seasonal flu vaccines will be available starting Sept. 28 at the county health department for Medicaid patients, or for those who want to pay out of pocket. Costs are $27 for shots, $35 for nasal sprays.
Diana Portell, clinical manager for Hackley Community Care Center, said her organization has received 100 nasal spray flu vaccines for patients who already are registered with the clinic.
She said traditional vaccine shots, which are administered with a needle, should be arriving next week.
'As soon as we get them in, anyone registered here as a patient can come in and get the shot without an appointment,' Portell said."

Insane killer escapes on field trip to county fair
"A criminally insane killer from eastern Washington is on the run after escaping during a field trip to the county fair that his mental hospital organized.
Why such a dangerous person was out in public was a question many, including Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire, were asking as authorities searched for Phillip Arnold Paul.
Authorities at Eastern State Hospital, where Paul is a patient, are being criticized for allowing him to visit the fair despite his violent criminal past and a history of trying to escape.
'Why was he allowed to take such a trip?' the governor said Friday. 'Why did they go to a location that was so heavily populated with families?'"
