Unions and America’s Ills

Unions and America’s Ills « Union Watch

Here’s what’s really happening, Mr. Hoffa:

For over 20 years, with increasing influence and with worsening effect, public employee unions have used taxpayer’s money, confiscated from public worker paychecks, to buy our politicians and control our elections.

They have used this power to “negotiate” grossly over-market rates of compensation and benefits to unionized government workers, especially at the entry and mid-level jobs, and because employee compensation is by far the largest category of government expenditures, it is breaking budgets, leading to tax increases and service cuts.

Meanwhile, public employee unions, in their insatiable demand both for more revenues to pay their over-paid members, as well as to expand their memberships, are prevailing upon politicians to expand government and expand regulations – increasing the cost of living for everyone.

This translates into cost-of-living increases for the unionized government workers, and a lower standard of living for the rest of us whose taxes support the entire corrupt mess.

At the same time, Mr. Hoffa, your public sector union pension funds are the collection agent for the overbuilt Wall Street machine you claim to abho

Walker calls for cuts or big layoffs

Walker calls for cuts or big layoffs - JSOnline
"Gov. Scott Walker said Friday that thousands of state workers would be laid off if the Legislature does not adopt his budget fix that cuts public worker benefits and takes away almost all union bargaining rights from public workers.
A Walker aide confirmed that the benefit reductions would cost the average state worker thousands of dollars a year, or roughly 8% of his or her salary.
Walker also signaled that in a larger budget plan coming later this month he would trim aid to municipalities and let local officials deal with those cuts at least in part through savings on public employee costs."

Speaking at a Capitol news conference, the governor also said the National Guard is ready to take control of state prisons if correctional officers illegally strike or obstruct work.
Union officials said they had no such plans.

But he said the state had no money or time to bargain with unions over the benefits changes.

"I don't have anything to negotiate," Walker said.
"We are broke in this state.
We have been broke for years.
People have ignored that for years, and it's about time somebody stood up and told the truth.

If that happens, and your mobile phone is on your person, it may be subject to a warrantless search.
If police dig up an incriminating text message, e-mail, or errant image file on your mobile device, it might be enough to convince a judge to issue a search warrant of your property—or, worse, lead to criminal charges being filed against you."

"In Celebrity's case, within 24 hours of the new ads launching, loyal Celebrity cruisers flocked to the boards to protest the campaign, saying it was sending the wrong message. Member PartyAllDaTyme summed up what hundreds of posters were articulating.

'I believe much of the consternation on the part of Cruise Critic members stems from the mistaken belief that Celebrity intends to relax or even eliminate many of the traditional 'rules,' such as the excellent smoking policy, any semblance of a dress code for formal nights, and worse, in favor of attracting a younger, more rebellious clientele,' he wrote.

One week later, Celebrity President and CEO Dan Hanrahan held a virtual Q&A in an effort to clarify the line's aim with 'X the Rules.'
And after some careful consideration, he returned a week later and posted the following:

'I want to thank you all again for the candid dialogue and questions on the boards last week about our new ad campaign. Your feedback encouraged us to do some additional research…[and] we have decided to move away from the 'X the rules' ads.'

Read the whole story of how Celebrity loyalists 'X'ed the marketing campaign."

dallas should never host a super bowl EVER AGAIN

dallas should never host a super bowl EVER AGAIN
"ARLINGTON, Texas --
For those interested in such things, we’ve had two significant hiccups here at Cowboys Stadium as kickoff approaches for Super Bowl XLV.

First, the NFL closed four of the 10 entrance points into the stadium because of lingering ice on the roof of the stadium. Friday, six people were injured by ice falling onto the sidewalk outside of the structure.

Second, the NFL just confirmed in a statement that some sections of the temporary seats erected inside Cowboys Stadium 'have not been fully completed.'
The league said that most fans will be accommodated somewhere in the building by kickoff, but indicated that some will not.

Those fans will receive a refund triple the cost of face value of the seat.

Local organizers are trying to break the Super Bowl record for attendance by exceeding 105,000.

Maybe they were a bit too greedy.

Can you imagine arriving at the stadium and finding out that your seat doesn’t exist?"

Everybody Does It? Really? - WSJ.com
"As we noted yesterday, over the weekend Common Cause held a rally in California at which numerous supporters of the self-styled 'grassroots organization' were caught on video advocating violence against Supreme Court justices and media executives--including calls to lynch the high court's only black member.

'Common Cause's 40 year history of holding power accountable has been marked by a commitment to decency and civility--in public and private,' begins a press release from the organization yesterday.
Yet in contrast with SarahPAC, which removed from its website its famous map of targeted districts after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, CommonCause.org's homepage still prominently features a photo and denunciation of Justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia, who were among the objects of the Common Cause supporters' violent--and, in Thomas's case, racist--fantasies"

And there is this:

It seems the liberal media sorta missed these unending examples of liberal "civilness".

Obama Well Knows What Chaos He Has Unleashed

American Thinker: Obama Well Knows What Chaos He Has Unleashed
"The question is justifiably asked: Do they truly believe that the next regime that comes to power will have the interests of the U.S. and the West at heart?
My fear is that Obama is not naïve at all, but he instead knows only too well what he is doing, for he is eagerly promoting Islamic power in the world while diminishing the West and Israel, however much innocent blood will flow as a result."

I suspect this fear is shared by most leaders of the free world.

The Obama Administration betrays Britain to appease the Russians over New START

The Obama Administration betrays Britain to appease the Russians over New START – Telegraph Blogs

The latest revelation from Wikileaks is the most damaging so far to the Anglo-American Special Relationship.

The disclosure in The Telegraph today that the Obama Administration “secretly agreed to give the Russians sensitive information on Britain’s nuclear deterrent to persuade them to sign a key treaty” points to an astonishing betrayal of America’s closest friend and ally, that may have significant implications for the relationship between David Cameron and Barack Obama.

Totally ignored by the American MSM.
Remember the cold war days (Oh, how we miss you Ronnie and Maggie!) when we would imprison traitors in our own government?

Michigan asparagus growers get combat pay as foot soldiers in the war on drugs

Michigan asparagus growers get combat pay as foot soldiers in the war on drugs
"Michigan asparagus farmers have until April 8 to sign up for their share of the $15 million ear-marked to compensate them for the hit they took in the country's war on drugs — when Congress pulled the plug on their market by encouraging South American farmers to grow asparagus instead of drugs.

A news release from the Michigan Farm Bureau Friday said the 'vast majority' of Michigan's 150 asparagus growers should be eligible for up to $100,000 per producer, part of a new U.S. Department of Agriculture program to help make up for losses suffered after Congress, in 1991, awarded farmers in Peru, Columbia, Bolivia and Ecuador unlimited duty-free entry to U.S. markets.

That put Michigan and other US asparagus producers into competition with farmers in those countries.
Peru has a 12-month production cycle and near-ideal growing conditions."

And we all know that COMPETITION is bad.
Our country is out of control!

Judge holds Obama regime in contempt over illegal drilling ban

theblogprof: Shocker: Judge holds Obama regime in contempt over illegal drilling ban
"Shocker: Judge holds Obama regime in contempt over illegal drilling ban

Let me make one thing clear - the Obama administration is acting like a regime.
One aspect of a regime is self-imposed carte blanche control of everything.
In this case, a federal judge told Obama that he cannot put a moratorium on offshore drilling.
Obama did it anyway by going through the Department of the Interior headed by the incompetent Ken Salazar (the bad guy in Resident Evil 4 for the Wii)
That same judge is now finding the Obama regime in contempt."

The financial penalties will be paid for by the US taxpayer.
Is this a great country or what?

Pajamas Media » Dump Dick Lugar

Senator Dick Lugar (R-IN) ties with Orrin Hatch as the longest serving Republican in the Senate. When Lugar faces primary voters next year, Republicans should choose someone else.

Here are five reasons why.

1) He’s Fiscally Irresponsible.

2) He’s a Foe of the Second Amendment.

3) He Supports Amnesty and He’s Weak on Illegal Immigration.

4) His Version of Bipartisanship Is Going Along with the Democrats.

5) We Can Do Better.

As the following chart regarding the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) shows, over the last decade teacher salaries have risen by 7% per year or 96% compounded and the pension cost (Pension Benefit Obligation) taxpayers are responsible for has gone up 116%.

Why Is Wall Street So Addicted to Prestige Colleges?

Why Is Wall Street So Addicted to Prestige Colleges? - CNBC
"The snobbery is very precise: you have to go to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford and, perhaps, Wharton.
(I do have my Wharton "diploma", fuck you losers....)
And the reason for this is not the belief that these schools provide the best education—in fact, many of those evaluating job candidates were critical of the education offered by these schools.

Rather, it seems that the elite firms are simply using getting into Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Standford and Wharton as a proxy for intelligence."

Well that "proxy for intelligence" worked out well....right?

And they're not kind to Cornell, UoM....and MSU is the equivalent of spinach on your teeth at the Queen's tea.
