About the movie, "Carbon Nartion", tonight (Tue. Jan. 31 at MCC)-comments from the article:

"Our goal should be to move from a carbon based to a nuclear based with hydrogen gas for all of our other needs. We will not get there by wasting time plugging in our cars or putting up wind mills and solar panels.

They just don't have the stones to do the job.

I've been in some very serious manufacturing plants. Not the cooks tour. The down and dirty kind. It takes raw power to make our factories hum. To tinker with this is suicide. If we want to do it on the margin to make some citizens feel less guilt and they want to pay for it. Fine. But to think we can base our economy on it is nuts.

If we can build a miniaturized nuclear reactor.
Put it to sea.
Have it dive down thousands of feet, and travel 90+ miles per hour, and do so silently.
Don't tell me we can't develop nuclear power on land and use that clean power to make hydrogen gas, and pipe that gas to stations for filling up our cars in the distant future.
The electric car is stupid.
It will end up being an environmental disaster.
Do you have any idea what it takes to manufacture a high capacity battery?
Holy cow!
Talk about environmental suicide.

I wish the Pipedream was true. It's a lie. Brought to you by the same political party that thought the federal government could run a medical insurance system while simultaneously running a pension system. Why would I let these people run a taco stand, even under a close supervision of the biggest mexican SOB I could find to make sure the feds made the taco just right.

They killed the light bulb. Now they are going to kill the country."

As a result, it is not evident that the Bush tax cuts in either the top marginal rate or capital gains rate had any long-term effect on inequality.
If anything, they appear to have reduced inequality.

Forget global warming - it's Cycle 25 we need to worry about (and if NASA scientists are right the Thames will be freezing over again) Mail Online
The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years.
The figures suggest that we could even be heading for a mini ice age to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the Thames in the 17th Century.
Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit.
It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.

Forget about Economic Recovery: Obama Is Toast

Spengler » Forget about Economic Recovery: Obama Is Toast
The official unemployment rate may have fallen, slightly, but the real unemployment rate — the number of working-age Americans who aren’t working — rose from about 12% before the 2008 crisis, to about 23%, and hasn’t come down.

That includes people who have retired early because they can’t find work, spouses who used to earn a second income but have gone back to homemaking because work isn’t available, self-employed people whose businesses have collapsed, young people who live in their parents’ basement because they can’t afford tuition and can’t find work.

While not great, the unemployment picture in Muskegon County is improving.
The county had ended 2010 with a 13.4 percent unemployment rate.
However, much of that improvement is due to a reduction in the labor force.

THE YEAR IS YOUNG: Worst News Story of 2012?
“That’s right; Reuters wrote that Rubio voted against Obamacare, but, as with Sotomayer’s nomination, he wasn’t in the Senate yet.
This kind of journalistic incompetence is stunning.
How can any reporter–here, David Adams of Reuters–write that Rubio voted a certain way, without even checking to make sure he was in office at the time?
And where did the false idea come from in the first place?”

Um, Media Matters, maybe? Just a wild guess . . . . Of course, calling this “incompetence” is charitable.

The Volokh Conspiracy » Charles Murray on Elite Ignorance of Ordinary Americans

In his new book, Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960–2010, Charles Murray argues that a new elite class has emerged that is much more ignorant about the lives of ordinary Americans than were the elites of earlier generations:

The Ruinous Reign of Race-and-Gender Historians

The Ruinous Reign of Race-and-Gender Historians
In a significant case involving history (the Montana court relied heavily upon the scholarship and words of historians to reach its conclusions), all the books cited were more than 35 years old.
And that wasn't a coincidence: the kind of U.S. history relevant to influencing legal and public policy debates increasingly has been banished from an academy obsessed with scholarship organized around the race/class/gender trinity.
