Government-subsidized green light bulb carries costly price tag - The Washington Post
The U.S. government last year announced a $10 million award, dubbed the “L Prize,” for any manufacturer that could create a “green” but affordable light bulb.
Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the prize would spur industry to offer the costly bulbs, known as LEDs, at prices “affordable for American families.”
There was also a “Buy America” component. Portions of the bulb would have to be made in the United States.

Now the winning bulb is on the market.
The price is $50.

The Case Against Law School

LEGAL EDUCATION UPDATE: New York Magazine: The Case Against Law School.
“The hardest part about becoming a lawyer in a city like New York, if your path runs through a top-tier school such as Columbia or NYU, might be getting your application accepted.
After that, it’s mostly a matter of keeping your grades up and waiting for the jobs to come to you:
On-campus recruiting interviews lead to summer associateships, which often lead to jobs at the same firm after graduation.
Attending a less prestigious law school, though, has always been something of a gamble, and as the recession has squeezed the profession, the math has become dicey indeed.

Nationwide, there are two aspiring lawyers with passing bar-exam scores for every one open job; in New York State, the ratio is even more lopsided, with 9,787 passing the bar in 2009, then competing for roughly 2,100 new positions.”

Rally for Rush

The American Spectator : Rally for Rush
So.
Did you hear about Carbonite and Rush Limbaugh?
No, you didn't.
Not the way you will in a minute.
But first?
It's time to turn the tables.
It's time to stand up to the bullies.
It's time to Rally for Rush.

...And get a load of this.
Take a look right here at Ed "Laura Ingraham is a slut" Schultz's site for his radio show.
Who is listed as a Schultz sponsor?
That's right: Carbonite.
Like Rush Limbaugh, Ed Schultz apologized.
The difference?
If Rush uses the word "slut" to illustrate the absurdity of the left-wing Sandra Fluke's views --David Friend is outraged.
But when Ed Schultz refers in hostile fashion out of the blue to conservative and Catholic Laura Ingraham as a "slut" -- hey, no big deal for Carbonite.
In other words, to put it politely, Mr. Friend's woe-is-me I'm-withdrawing-my-company's sponsorship-from-Rush Limbaugh-because of-my-lovely-daughters is as close to certifiable BS as one can imagine.
Mr. Friend, one can only suspect, placed Carbonite's ads with Rush Limbaugh because he knew it would make him money -- which he obviously then funneled to MoveOn and the rest.
Meanwhile, he keeps advertising on the Ed Slut Show… sorry… Ed Schultz Show.
His daughters?
His daughters?
What a deeply cynical man.

Read all of this.
Very interesting.
Very important!

America’s Atlas Generation – The Forgotten 33% « Union Watch

America’s Atlas Generation – The Forgotten 33% « Union Watch: The chart below depicts the American electorate divided not into two groups – the 1% vs. the 99%, but four groups – the 1% super-rich, then 20% representing government workers, 46% representing citizens who either pay zero taxes or negative taxes (ala the “earned income credit”), and the remaining 33% who are neither super-rich, government employees, or not paying taxes. One might term this group the forgotten 33%, because no special interest will speak for them. They have neither the numbers nor the financial wherewithal to decisively influence elections.

Breitbart’s Last Laugh

Breitbart’s Last Laugh The Weekly Standard
I woke up this morning to about ten emails from journalist friends asking if our mutual friend, Andrew Breitbart, was really dead.
“Really” was the operative word.
Some meant it in the traditional sense: Is it possible for the human inferno that Breitbart resembled to have actually been extinguished at age 43, leaving his elegant wife Susie and his four beloved children behind?
Several, however, meant it as in: Is Andrew really dead?
Many of us didn’t know if we could trust the announcement, thinking this could be another Breitbart caper, as he always had two or three in his back pocket.
By way of greeting, I used to ask Breitbart what kind of evil he was up to.
“Most kinds,” he’d say, gamely.
So one could easily have envisioned this being the latest Breitbart media stunt: Fake your own demise, go missing for 24 hours, thus encouraging all your ideological adversaries to bleat and fume and make asses of themselves just to prove what kind of sonsofbitches you were up against.
Let the record show that tasteful blogger Matt Yglesias came through like clockwork, nearly getting ahead of the Los Angeles coroner’s announcement by crowing:
“Conventions around dead people are ridiculous. The world outlook is slightly improved with @AndrewBreitbart dead.” (Well done, Matt! Perhaps you could pass your thoughtful sentiments on to his fatherless children, since they likely don’t follow you on Twitter. Prick.)

Next we'll interview Jack Spencer, Capitol affairs specialist for Michigan Capitol Confidential, a news service of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
We'll focus on the outrageous $28 million (and counting) union ripoff of home daycare and healthcare providers.
This SEIU "dues skim" ought to disgust even longtime union supporters.

Also livestream on smartphones and computers at newstalk1090.com, anywhere in the galaxy!

In both cases, the annual compensation used for comparison is $70,000, which is the average base salary paid to state and local government employees in California (ref. U.S. Census data for California: State, and Local).
But the impact of benefits paid by the government employer, combined with the impact of mandatory employee contributions (taxes, retirement set-asides, and healthcare costs), yield dramatically different end results in terms of total net compensation.
Both the self-employed worker and the government worker make $70,000 per year.
But to say they make the same amount of money is grossly misleading.

An 86-year-old World War II veteran whose leg was broken when he was carjacked at a gas station was ignored by customers as he crawled through the parking lot for help.

Thieves hit Aaron Brantley from behind and stole his 2010 Chrysler 200 (recently purchased to replace another stolen car) at 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Detroit Free Press.
The gas station is located at W. McNichols and Fairfield, just west of the campus of University of Detroit-Mercy.

Lindzen totally pwns the alarmists

Lindzen totally pwns the alarmists – Telegraph Blogs
"Stated briefly, I will simply try to clarify what the debate over climate change is really about.
It most certainly is not about whether climate is changing: it always is.
It is not about whether CO2 is increasing: it clearly is.
It is not about whether the increase in CO2, by itself, will lead to some warming: it should.
The debate is simply over the matter of how much warming the increase in CO2 can lead to, and the connection of such warming to the innumerable claimed catastrophes.
The evidence is that the increase in CO2 will lead to very little warming, and that the connection of this minimal warming (or even significant warming) to the purported catastrophes is also minimal.
The arguments on which the catastrophic claims are made are extremely weak – and commonly acknowledged as such.
They are sometimes overtly dishonest."

The Perversion of Rights

The Perversion of Rights - Mark Steyn
The transformation of “human rights” from restraints upon state power into a pretext for state power is nicely encapsulated in the language of Article 14 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which states that everyone has the right “to receive free compulsory education.”
Got that?
You have the human right to be forced to do something by the government.

Hawking, whose work on black holes earned him international acclaim, arrives at the club with an entourage of nurses and assistants and has "naked women grind on him," RadarOnline reported.

Geithner: 'Privilege of Being an American' Is Why Rich Need Higher Taxes The Weekly Standard
"That’s the kind of balance you need," said Geithner.
"Why is that the case?
Because if you don't try to generate more revenues through tax reform, if you don't ask, you know, the most fortunate Americans to bear a slightly larger burden of the privilege of being an American, then you have to -- the only way to achieve fiscal sustainability is through unacceptably deep cuts in benefits for middle class seniors, or unacceptably deep cuts in national security."
