PHOTOS: North Korean ski resort scheduled to open this week - The Oakland Press Media Center: "MASIK PASS, North Korea (AP) North Korea’s latest megaproject, the Masik Pass ski resort is intended to show that North Korea is as civilized and culturally advanced as any other country.The complex of ski runs, resort chalets and sleigh rides will formally open Thursday, though the main hotels appeared to be little more than shells late last month, while potholes filled the access roads and foundations were still being dug for secondary buildings.
By the estimate of North Korean ski official, Kim Tae Yong, there are only about 5,500 North Korean skiers in the country of 24 million — a skiing population of 0.02 percent.
Even so, Yong displays no doubt that what his country really needs right now is a multimillion-dollar ski resort in the secluded depths of North Korea’s east coast and bristles at the suggestion that Masik will be a playground for the nation’s elite.

Dozens of Veterans Arrested at Vietnam War Memorial in NYC |:"Veterans of the Vietnam War were arrested earlier tonight at the New York City memorial after staying on the premises past the curfew time of 10 p.m. Police gave multiple warnings as veterans continued to read from a list of names.
Video from the event shows that not only veterans were loaded into the paddy wagon, but also younger participants in the vigil as well.
The gathering took place in part to protest the twelfth anniversary of the war in Afghanistan.
