Ken Braun: The road back from Michigan economy's 'Lost Decade' is longer than it seems

Ken Braun: The road back from Michigan economy's 'Lost Decade' is longer than it seems | MLive.com: "Michigan’s unemployment rate has begun to tick upward again. The September report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, reflecting the month of August, showed 9.0 percent - up from a recent low of 8.4 percent in April. It had been five years since Michigan unemployment dipped below 8.5 percent, so even that looked like progress.

Even if we’re doing okay, it’s going to look like this for a while. To understand why, one must really look into the deceptively deep and still underestimated crater drilled into the Michigan economy during the “Lost Decade” from 2001-2010.

The BLS numbers say nearly 5 million Michigan residents were working in March of 2000, an all-time record. It was all mostly a sharp downhill plunge from there to September 2010, when fewer than 4.2 million of us had work. The lost job tally during this run was more than 837,000. "

Obamacare Will Cover Sex Workers, Too — and This ‘Healthy Ho’s Party’ Helped Grease the Wheels | Video | TheBlaze.com:
Likely no sweat for attendees of the “Healthy Ho’s Party” — a San Francisco Bay Area outreach to sex workers, complete with a burlesque show, encouraging them to enroll in universal health care,CNNMoney reported:
In the all-cash, off-the-books sex industry, workers can be particularly high risk and insurance is often out of reach. Many sex workers — a broad term that can refer to a number of services, including sexual massage, prostitution, and escort and dominatrix work — consider themselves self-employed entrepreneurs who can’t afford to purchase healthcare. But that could all change with the Affordable Care Act.
One of the key details spelled out to the enthusiastic crowd of 40 men and women on hand to watch some stripping and fill out Obamacare paperwork: Enrollment doesn’t require users to report their employment, CNNMoney reported.
Oh, and the Federal subsidies they’d get due to their income:
Individuals making less than $46,000 are eligible for a tax credit to offset their monthly costs. Many of the sex workers at the event file W-2s for their legal work, whether it be a part-time job or sex work that falls within the law. Sex workers interviewed by CNNMoney estimated this income to be less than $45,000 a year.
One of the sex workers interviewed in the segment said she should get a $211 credit each month.
“I honestly do think access to health care should be a human right,” said “Maxine Holloway” (her pseudonym), adding that in the past she’s been “so brainwashed to think it’s such a privilege.”

The Left is trying to rehabilitate Karl Marx. Let's remind them of the millions who died in his name – Telegraph Blogs:
"I don't want to have to rehearse the numbers but, apparently, they're not being taught in schools anymore – so here goes.
Sixty-five million were murdered in China – starved, hounded to suicide, shot as class traitors.
Twenty million in the USSR,
2 million in North Korea,
1.7 million in Africa.
The nightmare of Cambodia (2 million dead) is especially vivid.
"Reactionaries" were sorted out from the base population on the grounds of being supporters of the old regime, having gone to school or just for wearing glasses.
They were taken to the side of paddy fields and hacked to death by teenagers."

Henry Hazlitt on the fallacy of government stimulus | AEIdeas:
"MP: It’s a simple, but frequently overlooked and irrefutable fact that the only way the federal government can “stimulate” (benefit) one group is to “de-stimulate” (tax) another group.
As Walter E. Williams explained in his syndicated newspaper column this week,
“The fact that Congress has no resources of its very own forces us to recognize that the only way Congress can give one American one dollar is to first — through intimidation, threats and coercion — confiscate that dollar from some other American through the tax code.” "

Senate Democrats voted unanimously three years ago to support the Obamacare rule that is largely responsible for some of the health insurance cancellation letters that are going out.

In September 2010, Senate Republicans brought a resolution to the floor to block implementation of the grandfather rule, warning that it would result in canceled policies and violate President Barack Obama’s promise that people could keep their insurance if they liked it.

On a party line vote, Democrats killed the resolution, which could come back to haunt vulnerable Democrats up for re-election this year.

Senate Democrats like Mary Landrieu, Jeanne Shaheen, Mark Pryor, Kay Hagan and Mark Begich – all of whom voted against stopping the rule from going into effect and have since supported delaying parts of Obamacare.

Expect to hear about this a lot."

The MSM expects us to forget these lies. We won't-----Flashback: Senate Democrats Echoed Obama's Insurance Promise

Flashback: Senate Democrats Echoed Obama's Insurance Promise:
"Senate Democrats facing reelection in 2014 are scrambling to distance themselves from their prior promises that anyone who wants to keep their healthcare insurance can do so under Obamacare.
According to CBS News, over two million Americans have already received cancellation notices from their insurance companies due to Obamacare, despite President Barack Obama promising at least 23 times that Obamacare would not force anyone out of their current insurance plan.
Now, Senate Democrats up for reelection in 2014 who echoed similar promises are running for cover.
In 2009, Sen. Jeanne (D-NH) Shaheen said the following on the floor of the U.S. Senate: “One common myth that we’ve heard is that health reform is a government takeover of our healthcare system.
This is simply not true… Under the current legislation, everyone will have the freedom to keep their healthcare plan if they like it.”  "

President Obama's weekly remarks
Hi, everybody. On Thursday, I addressed a conference for business leaders from around the world. And my pitch was simple: Choose America. Invest in America. Create jobs in America.
It speaks to my top priority as President: growing our economy, creating good jobs, strengthening security and opportunity for the middle class.
Over the past three and a half years, our businesses have created over seven and a half million new jobs. And this week, the Treasury confirmed that since I took office, we’ve cut our deficits by more than half.
But we have more work to do. We need to grow and create more good jobs faster. That’s my driving focus. And I’ll go anywhere and do anything to make it happen.
That has to be Washington’s driving focus as well. But I know that what you often hear out of Washington can sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher — a jumble of unfocused noise that’s out of touch with the things you care about.
So today, I want to cut through that noise and talk plainly about what we should do right now to keep growing this economy and creating new jobs.
It begins by ending what has done more than anything else to undermine our economy over the past few years — and that’s the constant cycle of manufactured crises and self-inflicted wounds.
I was glad to hear the Republican leader in the Senate say this week that they won’t pursue another government shutdown or threaten another default on our debt. Because we shouldn’t be injuring ourselves every few months — we should be investing in ourselves.
And one way to do that is through the budget that Congress started working on this week. Now, budgets can be a boring topic — especially on the weekend. But they can also be revealing. Because they expose what our priorities are as a country for all to see.
Think about it. We can keep wasteful corporate tax giveaways that working folks don’t get — or we could close those loopholes and use that money to pay for things that actually create jobs.
We can keep harmful cuts to education programs — or we could give more kids a head start, hire more teachers in math and science, and help more kids afford a college education.
We can keep doling out corporate welfare to big oil companies — or we could keep investing in the renewable energy that creates jobs and lowers our carbon pollution."

American's, Obama has 3 years remaining to achieve HIS vision. It doesn't look good--------Top generals: Obama is ‘purging the military’

Top generals: Obama is ‘purging the military’:
"Retired Army Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin, who was with Delta Force and later Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence under President George W. Bush, says it is worrying that four-star generals are being retired at the rate that has occurred under Obama.

“Over the past three years, it is unprecedented for the number of four-star generals to be relieved of duty, and not necessarily relieved for cause,” Boykin said.

“I believe there is a purging of the military,” he said. “The problem is worse than we have ever seen.”"

Obama orders government to prepare for impact of global warming

Obama orders government to prepare for impact of global warming - Washington Times:
President Obama issued an executive order Friday directing a government-wide effort to boost preparation in states and local communities for the impact of global warming.
The action orders federal agencies to work with states to build “resilience” against major storms and other weather extremes.
For example, the president’s order directs that infrastructure projects like bridges and flood control take into consideration climate conditions of the future, which might require building structures larger or stronger — and likely at a higher price tag.
“The impacts of climate change — including an increase in prolonged periods of excessively high temperatures, more heavy downpours, an increase in wildfires, more severe droughts, permafrost thawing, ocean acidification and sea-level rise — are already affecting communities, natural resources, ecosystems, economies and public health across the nation,” the presidential order said.
“The federal government must build on recent progress and pursue new strategies to improve the nation’s preparedness and resilience.”
There’s no estimate of how much the additional planning will cost.
