"Since the 1950s, all but two mass shootings have occurred in locations where victims were restricted from carrying weapons for self-defense, his work says. This stunning statistic led the university to question the effectiveness of so-called “gun free zones.”
The methodology of the research is fairly simple and rooted in common sense, Dietz claims. It takes into account four separate scenarios involving an active shooter:"

Ex-DHS watchdog put on leave after critical report | CNS News:
Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson put his agency's former internal watchdog on leave within hours of the publication of a Senate report that concluded the employee was too cozy with senior agency officials and delayed or classified some critical reports to accommodate President Barack Obama's political appointees.
Charles K. Edwards had been allowed to quietly resign as acting inspector general and transfer to another post within the Homeland Security Department in December, just before Johnson took office. But after Johnson reviewed the 27-page report from a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs oversight subcommittee Thursday he put Edwards on leave."

U.S. electricity prices may be going up for good - chicagotribune.com

U.S. electricity prices may be going up for good - chicagotribune.com:

Experts warn of a growing fragility as coal-fired plants are shut down, nuclear power is reduced and consumers switch to renewable energy.
.....But it exposed a more fundamental problem.
There is a growing fragility in the U.S. electricity system, experts warn, the result of the shutdown of coal-fired plants, reductions in nuclear power, a shift to more expensive renewable energy and natural gas pipeline constraints.

The result is likely to be future price shocks.
And they may not be temporary.
One recent study predicts the cost of electricity in California alone could jump 47% over the next 16 years, in part because of the state's shift toward more expensive renewable energy.
"We are now in an era of rising electricity prices," said Philip Moeller, a member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, who said the steady reduction in generating capacity across the nation means that prices are headed up.
"If you take enough supply out of the system, the price is going to increase."

Obama's Economic Policies will Bring a Second Great Depression

Obama's Economic Policies will Bring a Second Great Depression:
"One oddity of the current economic debate is that the more Barack Obama’s incompetent income-redistribution policies have failed, the more the left calls for more government-intervention policies to correct for the deficiencies of the earlier rounds. American middle-income families have lost nearly $3,000 in purchasing power since 2007, and the left’s only solution to get us out of the rut is more debt, more social-welfare spending, more income redistribution and higher taxes on the rich and big business."

White House “big data” study to reveal potential for discrimination

White House “big data” study to reveal potential for discrimination | Ars Technica
Next week, White House counselor John Podesta is set to present the results of a 90-day "big data" study, commissioned by President Barack Obama in January as part of a wave of NSA reform announcements.
According to the Associated Press, Podesta's study will hinge largely on the discriminatory potential of the mountains of data accumulated by public and private firms alike.
The study's results could mean changes to federal anti-discrimination laws, particularly in the case of financial and employment policies.
The AP report used private data clustering as an example of potential abuse, describing customers lumped into an "Ethnic Second-City Struggler" category.
Loan applicants could be lumped into that category based on geographic and social-media information, flagging them for higher-interest loans than they'd be offered as anonymous, off-the-street customers.
.....That speech also hinted at the kinds of discrimination stories we may expect from Podesta's report, including the story of a crowd-sourced pothole detection app launched in Boston.

"Because poor people and the elderly were less likely to carry smartphones, let alone download the app, the app wound up systematically directing city services to wealthier neighborhoods," Podesta said.
"We need to pay careful attention to what unexpected outcomes the use of big data might lead to, and how to remedy any unintended discrimination or inequality that may result."

University Takes Action Against Students, Free Speech Endangered

University Takes Action Against Students, Free Speech Endangered:
"Another day, another outrageous report to emerge from the sad state of liberal academia…
The University of Hawaii at Hilo has prohibited students from passing out forbidden literature on school grounds.
What was this forbidden literature? Was it radical propaganda? Was it hate-filled tirades of madmen?
No- it was the U.S. Constitution.
In typical fashion more in-line with a despotic dictatorship than something that could occur in America, UH-Hilo prohibited students from handing out our nation’s laws that enumerate our rights as citizens.

Obama been boss for almost 5 1/2 years. How's it workin' out for ya?-------Great divide: Low-priced home sales sink; high-priced ones rise

Great divide: Low-priced home sales sink; high-priced ones rise | Detroit Free Press | freep.com:
"Tuesday’s report on existing home sales last month highlights how tough the market is for buyers of lower-priced homes, especially in parts of the high-priced West.
March sales of previously owned homes fell to their slowest annual pace in 20 months, down 0.2% from February to 4.59 million, the National Association of Realtors reported. It was the third straight monthly decline.
Year over year, the sharpest drop-offs are at the low end of the housing market, continuing a trend visible for two years.
Sales of homes under $100,000 fell nearly 18% from March 2013 and those in the $100,000-$250,000 range fell about 10%.
But sales of homes over $1 million rose almost 8%......"

At Dartmouth Word Fiesta Is Racist White People Can't Use It

At Dartmouth Word Fiesta Is Racist White People Can't Use It | The Daily Caller
Another ridiculous politically-correct brouhaha has broken out at Dartmouth College, America’s most hopelessly and disturbingly fragile Ivy League school.
This time, the fracas is over a fundraiser for cardiac care that the Phi Delta Alpha fraternity and the Alpha Phi sorority had planned to jointly sponsor, reports Campus Reform.
Problems arose because a single student, junior Daniela Hernandez, was offended by the party’s theme of “Phiesta.”
As a result, the soiree, which was scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled by the presidents of the respective Greek organizations.
Had the party happened, it would have included a live band as well as virgin piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris. There would also have been burritos, chips and salsa, and guacamole.
The cash raised at the event would have gone to benefit cardiac treatments.
However, Hernandez’s deep offense about racial insensitivity was enough to call it off.
The self-proclaimed “Mexican-born, United-States-raised, first-generation woman of color” declared in an angry email that “there are various problematic structures and ideologies regarding a Cinco de Mayo-inspired event,” according to Campus Reform.

But these threats are being taken very seriously by researchers who are studying the existential threat of AI on the human race.

Still Don’t Believe Barack Obama Lies A Lot? WATCH This:
"Here is video proof that Republican Rep. Joe Wilson (SC-2) was right. Wilson came under tremendous fire for two words that he uttered during Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address in September 2009.  During that speech, Obama said, “There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false – the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”

Tax increases coming cuz we're not giving government enough-----Tax cut plans dim as focus shifts to Michigan's potholes

Tax cut plans dim as focus shifts to Michigan's potholes | Crain's Detroit Business:
"Now plans for a tax reduction are waning and shifting instead to addressing pothole-ridden roads.
Snyder, who said he's open to dropping his tax plan to set aside more money for transportation, attributes the shrinking interest in tax relief to drivers who voiced their frustration.
"Much of it came about because of how serious the pothole season's been," he said.
"I appreciate the general public speaking up more and more — they see a need to solve this problem in terms of transportation.""

What Do This Supreme Court Decision And Obama's BLM Land Grabs Have In Common?:
"What stops the federal government from merely deeding private lands to foreign governments “because they can”? Actually, nothing stops the government from doing anything, certainly not the Kelo Decision.
Without a doubt, the Supreme Court’s Kelo Decision is one of the most potentially destructive weapons a tyrant like Barack Obama has at his disposal."

"Brighton said the biggest difference between Islam and Sharia-ism is the latter is a “political movement to control,” not unlike communism or fascism, and added that the only reason the ideology has been able to survive in the United States this long is because it has has the “cover of religion,” and an enormous number of “petrodollars.”
Brighton admitted many of her friends automatically disagree with her, afraid of offending Islam, but added: “If you actually get them to look at the facts and read some of it, they’ll say, ‘Oh I didn’t know that!"
