A small group of volunteers spent much of the last year getting drunk and stoned on marijuana furnished by the federal government before getting behind the wheel.
The volunteers were part of what federal scientists say was the most comprehensive study ever conducted on how marijuana, and pot combined with alcohol, affect drivers. The data now being analyzed ultimately will help regulators decide how stoned is too stoned to drive. It's similar to the studies conducted to develop levels for drunken driving. Volunteers were recruited from around Iowa City, home to the University of Iowa's National Advanced Driving Simulator.
"They were happy to participate," says Dr. Marilyn Huestis, chief of chemistry and drug metabolism at the Intramural Research Program at the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Jonathan and Reginald Carr were sentenced to death in 2002. Their December 2000 crime spree, known as the Wichita Massacre, included the kidnapping of three men and two women in a home invasion that included rape and sexual humiliation.
The five victims were shot in the head; one survived.
The court affirmed some of the convictions against the two brothers, including murder, but vacated the death penalty for both of them, sending the case back to district court for new sentencing.
"The Eighth Amendment was violated in this capital case when the district judge refused to sever the penalty phase of the proceedings," the court wrote in the ruling.

Just a few weeks ago Target announced a request for all gun owners to leave their guns at home and not bring them to their stores.
Since then there have been numerous shootings and gun-related incidents from criminals who are in the habit of breaking gun laws and apparently ignoring the retail giant’s polite request.

He was spotted on surveillance cameras putting merchandise into his pockets.

However, when small children in the car became frightened of the crowd, the driver rolled slowly forward to get through, Stafford said.
Some crowd members became angry, surrounded the car, pounded on it, climbed on it and smashed the windshield, he said.
The driver then sped up to flee and sideswiped a 64-year-old woman, who fell under the car."
