Obama Admin. Launches New Program to Improve Quality of Parent-Child Talks at Home, Boost ‘Language Nutrition’ | TheBlaze.com

Obama Admin. Launches New Program to Improve Quality of Parent-Child Talks at Home, Boost ‘Language Nutrition’ | TheBlaze.com:

"The Obama administration has launched a new federal government program aimed at getting parents to talk to their children more, and to engage in “high-quality verbal interaction” with their kids.

The program is aimed at closing what Obama officials are calling the “word gap.” That’s a reference to research showing that kids in lower-income families hear fewer words as kids than kids from families with higher incomes."

Will someone please tell Obama that the border is wide open and ISIS wants to put a flag above his house....

Nigerian Passenger Vomits, Dies on Flight From Africa to New York City

Nigerian Passenger Vomits, Dies on Flight From Africa to New York City | The Gateway Pundit
He had been vomiting in his seat before he died.
New York Post reported:

A plane from Nigeria landed at JFK Airport Thursday with a male passenger aboard who had died during the flight after a fit of vomiting — and CDC officials conducted a “cursory” exam before announcing there was no Ebola and turning the corpse over to Port Authority cops to remove, Rep. Peter King said on Thursday.
The congressman was so alarmed by the incident — and by what he and employees see as troubling Ebola vulnerabilities at JFK — that he fired off a letter to the federal Department of Homeland Security demanding more training and tougher protocols for handling possible cases there.
The unnamed, 63-year-old passenger had boarded an Arik Air plane out of Lagos, Nigeria, on Wednesday night, a federal law enforcement source said.
During the flight, the man had been vomiting in his seat, the source said. Some time before the plane landed, he passed away. Flight crew contacted the CDC, federal customs officials and Port Authority police, who all boarded the plane at around 6 a.m. as about 145 worried passengers remained on board, the source said.
“The door [to the terminal] was left open, which a lot of the first responders found alarming,” said the source.
“My understanding was that the passenger was vomiting in the seat,” King (R-LI) said.

Democrats ask for military to 'come into contact' with Ebola patients by Renee Nal
In a bizarrely-worded letter, House Representatives Keith Ellison, Karen Bass and Barbara Lee asked President Obama to allow “…military medical and technical personnel to provide direct care to, and to come into contact with, patients in West Africa.”
As reported by Kristina Wong at the Hill, Major General Darryl Williams, commander of Operation United Assistance, is accommodating the request, perhaps unintentionally.
While speaking of a new 25-bed hospital in Monrovia, Williams was quoted as saying,
They [military personnel] will actually be involved in the care and feeding of health care workers who have been infected with the Ebola virus.
Even the progressive Mother Jones acknowledges that “Ebola would certainly present a risk for any military personnel treating patients.”

Muslims Demand Army Change Its Dress Code To Include Turbans And Beards
"Department of Defense released regulations on Wednesday to protect the rights of service members to wear a turban, scarf, or beard, to display their religious beliefs—as long as the practices don’t interfere with “military discipline, order, or readiness.”
“We welcome the important decision to broaden the religious rights of American military personnel,” a statement from the Council on American-Islamic Relations read, “We hope it will allow all those in uniform to practice their faith while serving the nation.”

Biden’s son Hunter discharged from Navy Reserve after failing cocaine test

Biden’s son Hunter discharged from Navy Reserve after failing cocaine test - MarketWatch: "WASHINGTON—Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter was discharged from the Navy Reserve this year after testing positive for cocaine, according to people familiar with the matter.
Hunter Biden, a lawyer by training who is now a managing partner at an investment company, had been commissioned as an ensign in the Navy Reserve, a part-time position.
But after failing a drug test last year, his brief military career ended.
Mr. Biden, 44 years old, decided to pursue military service relatively late, beginning the direct-commission process to become a public-affairs officer in the Navy Reserve in 2012.
Because of his age—43 when he was to be commissioned—he needed a waiver to join the Navy.
He received a second Navy waiver because of a drug-related incident when he was a young man, according to people familiar with the matter.
Military officials say such drug waivers aren’t uncommon.
Mr. Biden was commissioned as an ensign on May 7, 2013, and assigned to Navy Public Affairs Support Element East in Norfolk, Va., a reserve unit, according to the Navy.
In June 2013, after reporting to his unit in Norfolk, he was given a drug test, which turned up positive for cocaine, according to people familiar with the situation. Mr. Biden was discharged in February, the Navy said.
Mr. Biden said in a statement that it was “the honor of my life to serve in the U.S. Navy, and I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge.
I respect the Navy’s decision.
With the love and support of my family, I’m moving forward.”

Government at war with its citizens-------How Chicago turned yellow lights into cash

How Chicago turned yellow lights into cash - Chicago Tribune:
Confronted with questions about a flurry of red light camera tickets stamped with yellow times below the 3-second minimum, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration said the fluctuation of hundredths of a second was normal — imperceptible to anyone behind the wheel of a car.
It turns out that fraction of a second makes a big difference to drivers and to the city's coffers.
The Emanuel administration on Friday acknowledged that it had changed the rules on what qualifies for a $100 ticket, quietly directing its new red light camera vendor to tag drivers even when the duration of a yellow light slips just below the 3-second standard set by the city.
The policy generated 77,000 more tickets and nearly $8 million in revenue for the city over the last six months.

Obama CDC Director: A Travel Ban to Ebola-Inflicted Countries Would Put Us at ‘Higher Risk’:

The subpoenas, which were issued last month, seek, “all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to HERO, the Petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity prepared by, delivered by, revised by, or approved by you or in your possession,” according to the Houston Chronicle."

CDC Wasted $1.6 Mil on Tranny Beauty Pageant Group

CDC Wasted $1.6 Mil on Tranny Beauty Pageant Group | FrontPage Magazine
Via Erica Payne’s Agenda Project Action Fund (the political consultant trolls behind Throw Granny Off a Cliff) is blaming Republican cuts.
"Like rabid dogs in a butcher shop, Republicans have indiscriminately shredded everything in their path, including critical programs that could have dealt with the Ebola crisis before it reached our country."
...In fact the CDC budget is at $6.6 billion.
That money was wasted on assorted junk instead of being used to develop an available Ebola treatment.
Here are some of the places where that money went…
  • CDC’s “Modest” $200,000 Fitness Center: Includes saunas, zero-gravity chairs, and “mood enhancing” light shows
  • The CDC-funded Stop AIDS Project of San Francisco, California hosted an event regarding “Men for Hire.” The featured speaker was Joseph Itiel, who, it was advertised, “presents practical tips and covers the seven guidelines for safe and friendly relations with escorts.” Mr. Itiel had authored a number of books, including A Consumer’s Guide to Male Hustlers
  • HHS and CDC sponsored an August 19-20, 2005, Utah conference hosted by the Harm Reduction Project and the Harm Reduction Coalition — organizations that support tacit legalization of drugs, including methamphetamine. Several sessions planned for the conference appear to promote illegal drug use and risky sexual behavior such as, “We Don’t Need a ‘War’ on Methamphetamine,” and “You Don’t Have to Be Clean & Sober. Or Even Want to Be!”
And let’s not forget this…
On May 12, 2001, the Mr./Ms. UTOPIA pageant entitled “Jewel of the Pacific” was held at the Southeast Community College Auditorium. U.T.O.P.I.A is The United Territories of Polynesian Islanders’ Alliance, a 501(c)(3) located in San Francisco, California. The organization was formed “to provide support to the Polynesian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community.” A flyer for the event notes “funding by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” and “Partial funding by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center.”
In 2001, the Center’s revenue was almost $3 million. In 2003, according to its website, its revenue was a little less than in 2001, but still near $3 million. While federal funding figures are unavailable for 2001, the group reports the federal government provided 38 percent of their 2003 budget, which would equal approximately a million dollars. In 2005, the federal government’s portion grew to 49 percent of its $3.366 million budget, or over $1.6 million.
Despite receiving millions of dollars from the federal government in the past few years, according to the Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center’s website, in the last 17 years the organization only has “served over 600 HIV-positive A&PIs.”

Lockheed Martin claims nuclear fusion breakthrough

Lockheed Martin claims nuclear fusion breakthrough | Circa News
Lockheed Martin Oct. 15 said its "Skunk Works" team had made a technological breakthrough that would allow for a nuclear fusion reactor small enough to fit on the back of a truck.
The 7ft by 10ft reactor could be potentially be deployed to conflict areas to provide power.
Skunk Works is seeking partners in universities, industry and government labs to assist in development of the reactor.
The team intends to build and test the compact fusion reactor in a year, with a prototype in five years, and a production in 10 years.
Researchers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's National Ignition Facility (NIF) said Feb. 12 that they produced a fusion reaction for a split second with more energy than they put in.
"Really for the first time anywhere, we've gotten more energy out of this fuel than was put into the fuel.
And that's quite unique.
And that's kind of a major turning point, in a lot of our minds
… I think a lot of people are jazzed."

How Ben Carson’s Rhetoric Threatens the GOP

How Ben Carson’s Rhetoric Threatens the GOP - Washington Wire - WSJ
"WALLACE: You are thinking about running for president in 2016.
And I want to talk to you about that in a moment, but it has brought attention back to some of your comments as it does to any candidate potentially running for president.
You said recently that you thought that there might not actually be elections in 2016 because of widespread anarchy.
Do you really believe that?

CARSON: Well, I hope that that’s not going to be the case, but certainly there is the potential. Because you have to recognize that we have a rapidly increasing national debt. A very unstable financial foundation.
And you have all these things going on like the ISIS crisis that could very rapidly change things that are going on in our nation.
And unless we begin to deal with these things in a comprehensive way, and in a logical way, there is no telling what could happen in just a matter of a couple of years.

For the record, I’m sympathetic to Dr. Carson’s concerns about ISIS and the debt and have written about them many times.
But for him to claim that there might not be elections in 2016 because “[t]here may be so much anarchy going on” is quite bizarre.
Even during the Civil War presidential elections were not suspended.
And this is not the first time Dr. Carson has engaged in wild overstatements.
Earlier this year he said that America was “very much like Nazi Germany.”
(He has also called Obamacare “the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery.”)

This is the kind of rhetorical recklessness that convinces many Americans that Republican leaders are extreme, irresponsible, and fundamentally unserious.
These sorts of comments have an acidic effect on the reputation of a party and a movement.
Dr. Carson has no chance of winning the GOP presidential nomination.
The danger for Republicans, however, is that if he runs for the presidency he’ll be given a rather large platform to share his musings.
And let’s be clear: Dr. Carson’s comments are evidence of a political mind that is not simply undisciplined but also fanatical.
(It doesn’t help that when given a chance to repudiate his initial comments, he invariably defends them.)
These are the kinds of thing one would expect to hear from the fringes of American politics.
Any political party or movement that is associated with such utterances will pay a price."

Here’s the Newly Released List of Conditions Dallas Nurses Say They Faced While Treating First Ebola Patient | TheBlaze.com:

"A Liberian Ebola patient was left in an open area of a Dallas emergency room for hours, and the nurses treating him worked for days without proper protective gear and faced constantly changing protocols, according to a statement released late Tuesday by the largest U.S. nurses’ union.
Nurses were forced to use medical tape to secure openings in their flimsy garments, worried that their necks and heads were exposed as they cared for a patient with explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting, said Deborah Burger of National Nurses United."

Failing to Counter the Big Lie

Failing to Counter the Big Lie [Michigan Capitol Confidential]
It is difficult to decide which is the more infuriating – those who persist in advancing a lie or those who stubbornly ignore the possible means of combating it.
The State of Michigan is spending more state tax dollars on K-12 education than the $6,844 per pupil it was spending the final budget year of former Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s administration.
At the beginning of this year it was spending $7,545 per pupil. Beginning Oct. 1, that amount was increased again by $50 to $175 per pupil, with the lowest funded school districts receiving the largest boosts.
As students of propaganda learned long ago, however, if you tell a big lie long enough and loud enough people will tend to believe it.
Polls show that, in spite of what simple math reveals, a majority of Michigan voters believe K-12 spending has been cut under Gov. Rick Snyder.
...As maddening as it may be to see a big lie perpetrated successfully, Gov. Snyder and the Republicans deserve much of the blame.
Their longstanding ineptitude in dealing with the lie has been frustrating — and all the more so because it was rooted a dismissive ambivalence.
At a base level there’s a temptation to say “it serves you right.”
....According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Michigan ranks 8th among the 50 states and the District of Columbia in per-pupil spending when adjusted for per-capita income.
Without the per-capita income adjustment, it ranks somewhere between 22nd and 26th depending on mid-decade measuring variations.
The per-capita income ranking means that only six states and the District of Columbia make a greater spending effort toward K-12 education than Michigan.
....Let’s say someone wants to promote the idea that the Detroit Tigers are a lousy baseball team.
They could cite whatever comparatively weak statistics they could find involving fielding, relief pitching and the absence of a World Series title over the past 30 years.
If your job was to defend the Tigers, wouldn’t it be sensible and obvious to change the perspective by pointing out that they have won their division four straight years and appeared in two of the last eight World Series?
This is exactly what Gov. Snyder and the Republicans failed to do regarding the K-12 spending issue. They made it easier instead of harder for their opponents to sell the big lie.
That’s never a good strategy.
