Monica on the Steyn Team?-----Me and My Little Black Dress

Me and My Little Black Dress :: SteynOnline:

Here we are a gazillion years later, and 2018 is almost upon us.
"Because seriously, I don't know how they do it.
The week that After America came out in 2011, the Dow Jones dropped 512 points on Thursday, and S&P shorted America's credit rating on Friday...
Today, The [Un]documented Mark Steyn, an anthology of his columns, hits the streets; its introduction is titled "Me and My Little Black Dress..."
Apparently to tie in with his book's launch, somehow Mark's PR people managed to convince Lewinsky to join Twitter on the very same day The [Un]documented Mark Steyn debuts.
Thanks, Monica!"

State bans purchase of most SUVs but governor, family still chauffeured in them

State bans purchase of most SUVs but governor, family still chauffeured in them « Watchdog.org:
"Last year, the Colorado Department of Personnel & Administration, in an attempt to improve the state fleet’s environmental friendliness, issued a policy that prevents most departments from buying all-wheel-drive sports utility vehicles.
Yet, Gov. John Hickenlooper and his family are still chauffeured around in two SUVs, which according to government figures get about 22 miles a gallon highway and 16 mpg in city driving in the six cylinder version.
.....But Gregory Golyansky, president of the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, said the governor should be setting an example if he and his cabinet are pushing for green vehicles.
“This governor is a proponent of all kinds of green fantasies,” he said.
“If they are so useful, the government wouldn’t have to require departments to buy them.”"

U.S. Congress examining deal between NSA official, ex-agency chief

U.S. Congress examining deal between NSA official, ex-agency chief | Reuters:
"A Senate committee and an outspoken U.S. Congressman are seeking further information about a deal under which a top National Security Agency official is being permitted to work part-time for a private company run by the spy agency's former director.
The Senate Intelligence Committee has requested a copy of an "internal review" which NSA said last week it had opened into an arrangement under which Patrick Dowd, the spy agency's chief technical officer is being allowed up to 20 hours per week for IronNet Cybersecurity Inc, a congressional official said.
IronNet is a venture created by retired Gen. Keith Alexander, who stepped down as NSA director in March.
Under the arrangement, which Reuters first reported on Friday, IronNet, not NSA, will pay for the time Dowd spent working for the firm.
It could not be determined whether Dowd has actually begun working for Alexander.
The arrangement, which current and former officials said was approved by top NSA managers, has raised questions about the blurring of lines between government and business."

Mounting Evidence Shows Ebola Czar Woefully Unqualified For Position

Mounting Evidence Shows Ebola Czar Woefully Unqualified For Position:

"Not only is Obama apparently unconcerned with Klain’s lack of qualifications regarding the deadly disease; one source told The New York Times that dealing with Ebola itself is really not the point of his position.

The report indicates Klain is in place to “control the message,” going on to reiterate that if “anybody can get the way this is being reported and discussed under control in a short period of time, he’s the one.”

5 discreet weapons you can carry (almost) anywhere

5 discreet weapons you can carry (almost) anywhere

1) Newspaper/magazine
This is probably the most inconspicuous weapon of the group but with some training it can be extremely effective. It’s an improvised weapon that’s been taught to special forces and intelligence operatives for generations. Colloquially, used as a weapon, a lot of people refer to it as a Millwall Brick.

The key is rolling it up tight and holding it in the right spot. If you roll it toward the fold, you won’t have all the pages layered out alongside it so it’ll hold up better (like I have in the picture above). You can also pre-roll it and keep it tight with rubber bands too, which would make it very effective, but now you’re starting to lose the inconspicuousness of it.

Here’s a quick video that shows just how easily it can be used:

Man Says He Has Ebola And Tries To LICK Hillary Protesters

Man Says He Has Ebola And Tries To LICK Hillary Protesters | The Daily Caller:
"An elderly man calling himself a progressive socialist accosted a group of about two dozen conservative students who were protesting outside a building where former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was speaking.
He then said he had Ebola and tried to lick the students.
The strange episode happened on Thursday at Oakland University, a public school in the endless suburbs of Detroit, Mich., reports Campus Reform.
Clinton was on campus stumping on behalf of a couple of Democrats: Former U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer, who is running for governor, and U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, who is running for a Senate seat.
Campus police and the Secret Service forced the conservative protesters to an area across a street and well away from the crowd waiting to get into the event.
The would-be licker who claimed to have Ebola is Larry Mitchell of the St. Clair Shores Democratic Club, according to Campus Reform.
The students represented the College Republicans, Students for Life and Young Americans for Liberty."

Top Scientist: This Version Of Ebola Looks Like ‘A Very Different Bug’

Top Scientist: This Version Of Ebola Looks Like ‘A Very Different Bug’
Barack Obama and the head of the CDC need to quit saying that we know exactly how Ebola spreads.
Because the truth is that there is much about this virus that we simply do not know.
For example, a top Ebola scientist that is working in the heart of the outbreak in Liberia says that this version of Ebola looks like it could be "a very different bug" from past versions.
Other leading scientists are echoing his concerns....
Now U.S. scientist Peter Jahrling of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease believes the current Ebola outbreak may be caused by an infection that spreads more easily than it did before.
Dr Jahrling explained that his team, who are working in the epicentre of the crisis in the Liberian capital of Monrovia, are seeing that the viral loads in Ebola patients are much higher than they are used to seeing.
He told Vox.com: 'We are using tests now that weren't using in the past, but there seems to be a belief that the virus load is higher in these patients [today] than what we have seen before. If true, that's a very different bug.
'I have a field team in Monrovia. They are running [tests]. They are telling me that viral loads are coming up very quickly and really high, higher than they are used to seeing.
'It may be that the virus burns hotter and quicker.'
