It will also increase the level of electricity from renewable energy by 30 percent — a likely boon for solar, wind and other alternative energy industries the Obama administration has subsidized over the last six years."

"SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A former teachers union lobbyist is suing Illinois’ state retirement board in an attempt to force a special pension deal he received for serving one day as a substitute teacher.
Retired Illinois Federation of Teachers lobbyist David Piccioli, 65, wants the state’s Teachers Retirement System to honor a sweetheart deal he received through special legislation in 2007 that allowed him to apply his time as a lobbyist toward a teacher’s pension, the Chicago Tribune reports.
That law, signed by then Gov. Rod Blagojevich, allowed Piccioli and another union lobbyist, Steven Preckwinkle, to apply their time with the union toward a pension with the Teachers Retirement System after serving only one day as substitute teachers in Springfield."

Few Blacks on Front Line in Detroit Recovery, Researcher Finds

Few Blacks on Front Line in Detroit Recovery, Researcher Finds  –  Deadline Detroit
Too few blacks seem to be on the front lines in Detroit's recovery, Detroit News editorial writer Nolan Finley notes in a column.
Finley cites Alex B. Hill, a community researcher with Wayne State University, "Detroit: Black Problems, White Solutions," an Oct. 16 blog post that incorporates his research into the racial makeup of the city's leading revival organizations. (Deadline reported on the research Oct., 17.)
"Detroit's revitalization is made up of a majority of white people," Hill writes.
Hill notes that participation by blacks in key groups was far lower than the city's 83 percent African-American population.
Finley notes some of Hill's examples:
  • At Challenge Detroit, which recruits fellows to provide brain power to support existing projects in the city, just 23 percent of the 91 fellows were African-American, while 69 percent were white.
  • Detroit Revitalization Fellow, which has a similar mission, does slightly better, with 34 percent of its 50 fellows African-American and 64 percent white.
  • Only 19 percent of the executives at Detroit-focused foundations are black.

Secret Service may have erased surveillance tapes - CNN.com:
"Washington (CNN)Secret Service Director Joe Clancy told lawmakers in a closed-door meeting that the Secret Service may have erased surveillance video of agents driving a car through an active bomb threat investigation at the White House.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz told CNN that on Tuesday, Clancy showed him and other lawmakers two videos, one of which didn't show much of the action.
"We inquired if there were additional tapes and angles and the director informed us that there may not be because it's their policy to erase them 72 hours after they record, which is just unfathomable," Chaffetz said. "I can't think of any good reason to do that."

"A Senate Democratic leader seemed to imply on Wednesday that Republicans are delaying a confirmation vote on Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch because she’s black.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) noted that Lynch is the first black woman to be nominated as attorney general, but said she is being “asked to sit in the back of the bus,” a reference to the Jim Crow laws that forced segregation between blacks and whites decades ago."

Top Iranian Aide says “Banner of Islam” Will Fly “Over the White House”

Top Iranian Aide says “Banner of Islam” Will Fly “Over the White House”:
"Shirazi, who is a representative for Khamenei in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, also stated that his troops are in a global war that will one day bring “the banner of Islam over the White House.”
He went on to say, “Today, in every country we look at worldwide, we see that the love of martyrdom is spreading like wildfire every day.”

President Obama is close to approving a major nuclear deal that would lift sanctions on Iran in exchange for Tehran stopping its effort to one day build atomic weapons, despite protests from Republicans in Congress, Israel, and members of the Gulf State Council which represents several Arab nations.
It's time to stop hitting the snooze button.
Wake up America!!

Obama Disappointed: Netanyahu Declares Victory in Israeli Election!

Obama Disappointed: Netanyahu Declares Victory in Israeli Election!:
"Sad news for the Obama Administration, who attempted to take down Netanyahu who has been a strong leader for Israel and a good ally to the United States.
After Netanyahu’s address to Congress, the United States media speculated that this move hurt Netanyahu and Obama no doubt was excited about this speculation.
But Netanyahu’s address did not seem to hurt him and Israeli voters appear not to have taken Obama’s snubs as something to consider in the voting process.
It seems they did the exact opposite."

That Time the Pentagon Lost Track of $500 Million Worth of Weapons in Yemen

That Time the Pentagon Lost Track of $500 Million Worth of Weapons in Yemen - Hit & Run : Reason.com:
So this is part of the reason the Great American War Machine (coming soon to a country near you!) needs more taxpayer funding than allowed under sequestration rules: It keeps, er, losing track of its equipment. From the Wash Post (via the Twitter feed of Mike Hewlett):
The Pentagon is unable to account for more than $500 million in U.S. military aid given to Yemen, amid fears that the weaponry, aircraft and equipment is at risk of being seized by Iranian-backed rebels or al-Qaeda, according to U.S. officials.
With Yemen in turmoil and its government splintering, the Defense Department has lost its ability to monitor the whereabouts of small arms, ammunition, night-vision goggles, patrol boats, vehicles and other supplies donated by the United States. The situation has grown worse since the United States closed its embassy in Sanaa, the capital, last month and withdrew many of its military advisers.
Pictures of the missing stuff won't fit on milk cartons, so suffice it to say that if you've seen any of this stuff at your local terrorist training camp or al Qaeda community center, please call the Defense Department!

How Wind Energy Creates More Dependence on Fossil Fuels

How Wind Energy Creates More Dependence on Fossil Fuels [Michigan Capitol Confidential]:
"Truth has a habit of emerging from unexpected places.
An article in the Daily Kos about the desire to end dependence on fossil fuels for energy needs reveals a “nasty little secret” about wind energy: It relies on fossil fuels.
That’s a message wind energy opponents in Michigan have been trying to get across to the news media and the public over the past few years.
The article is part of a series titled “Getting to Zero,” by Keith Pickering, and is written with the premise that global warming is a dire and immediate threat.
It states, “If civilization is to survive, we need to get to zero emission of fossil carbon, and we need to get there rapidly.”
Overall it paints a pessimistic portrait of efforts to reduce carbon emissions from human sources."
