What could possibly go wrong?-----‘Revitalizing’ Detroit with 50,000 Syrian Refugees?
‘Revitalizing’ Detroit with 50,000 Syrian Refugees?
It has been said that nature abhors a vacuum.
The Obama administration’s policies around the world have created power vacuums with severe and often deadly consequences.
.....Our primary concern, however, must be on how any actions to address this will impact the United States and its citizens.
We will begin by considering the impact large numbers of refugees would likely have on American workers, particularly focusing on a proposal for the resettlement of 50,000 Syrian refugees in Detroit, Michigan.

We will begin by considering the impact large numbers of refugees would likely have on American workers, particularly focusing on a proposal for the resettlement of 50,000 Syrian refugees in Detroit, Michigan.
First of all, the proposal for this program would come with a huge price-tag. Consider just how much the proposal admits this would cost:
Resettling Syrians in Detroit would require commitment and cooperation across different branches and levels of our government, but it is eminently feasible. President Obama and Congress would have to agree to lift this year’s refugee ceiling by 50,000. The State Department, which handles overseas processing of refugees, would need to open offices at the camps in Jordan and Turkey, determine eligibility and administer a lottery for resettlement. Homeland Security, which controls the borders, would have to carry out accelerated security checks, as has been done in the past for Vietnamese and for Iranian religious minorities. Health and Human Services would need an expansion in the $1.5 billion it budgets for refugee resettlement.

No money for roads but $140 MILLION OK for 3.3 miles of Detroit streetcar?!!!------Quicken Loans will get to pick name for M-1 Rail
Quicken Loans will get to pick name for M-1 Rail:
"Dan Gilbert can add the eventual name of the M-1 Rail streetcar to his list of acquisitions.
Gilbert's Quicken Loans secured the naming rights to the 3.3-mile streetcar line being built on Woodward as part of its financial support during fund-raising for the project, according to a statement from Paul Childs, M-1's chief operating officer.
"M-1 Rail is also working on other branding items — including recognition of donors who have sponsored station stops," Childs said in the statement.
"The process is a dynamic one and will be done in a way that reflects the pride we have in the project and its importance to Detroit."
It was unclear when a decision on the name would be reached or if M-1 Rail is a possibility.
Chief Operating Officer Paul Childs breaks down the 2015 construction plans during a meeting Thursday in Detroit. Significant work will happen near Campus Martius Park.
Quicken obtaining the line's naming rights was first reported by Crain's Detroit Business.
Quicken pledged $10 million to the approximately $140 million project, according to a Free Press report last year. The company is also sponsoring the Congress station."

This is how they "think"----Here are 7 things people who say they’re ‘fiscally conservative but socially liberal’ don’t understand
Here are 7 things people who say they’re ‘fiscally conservative but socially liberal’ don’t understand
"Well, I’m conservative, but I’m not one of those racist, homophobic, dripping-with-hate Tea Party bigots!
I’m pro-choice!
I’m pro-same-sex-marriage!
I’m not a racist!
I just want lower taxes, and smaller government, and less government regulation of business.
I’m fiscally conservative, and socially liberal.”
How many liberals and progressives have heard this?
It’s ridiculously common.
Hell, even David Koch of the Koch brothers has said, “I’m a conservative on economic matters and I’m a social liberal.”
And it’s wrong.
W-R-O-N-G Wrong.
You can’t separate fiscal issues from social issues.
They’re deeply intertwined.
They affect each other.
Economic issues often are social issues.
And conservative fiscal policies do enormous social harm.
That’s true even for the mildest, most generous version of “fiscal conservatism” — low taxes, small government, reduced regulation, a free market.
These policies perpetuate human rights abuses.
They make life harder for people who already have hard lives.
Even if the people supporting these policies don’t intend this, the policies are racist, sexist, classist (obviously), ableist, homophobic, transphobic, and otherwise socially retrograde.
In many ways, they do more harm than so-called “social policies” that are supposedly separate from economic ones.
Here are seven reasons that “fiscally conservative, socially liberal” is nonsense...."

Fake "news" or not? It's coming no matter what-------McDonald’s To Open A Restaurant Run By Robots In Phoenix
McDonald’s To Open A Restaurant Run By Robots In Phoenix | JEWSNEWS
(PHOENIX) After seeing a decline in earnings for the first time in nine years, McDonald’s plans to do something no other store of its kind has ever done before; open a store run entirely by robots.
The store is set to open July 4th in Phoenix, Arizona once the state-of-the-art robot remodel is complete.
The restaurant will still employee a small team to insure all of the robots are working correctly, the food along with the cleaning supplies remaining stocked and removing the money collected by the robots.
If the test launch for the store is a success, visitors to the restaurant can soon expect to see these new robots working in harmony at a speed of 50 times faster than the average human employee, with no chance of error, located in every store all over the country.

U.K. rape jihadis: ‘This is OK in our culture’
U.K. rape jihadis: ‘This is OK in our culture’:
"I met with the police myself in April 2015. They still weren’t interested. I gave them names of 80 Muslim men who had raped and beaten me. Nothing has happened to those men. I still see them down with the taxis. I can’t publish their names – then they will know it’s me, and they will seize me and beat me again. I went to the gym last week. One of them was at the gym. I see them everywhere.
I don’t go out much. I go to the gym, I walk my dogs. I try not to be recognized.
The men who did this to me have no remorse. They would tell me that what they were doing was OK in their culture.
If British authorities don’t act to save this girl and all the others like her, Britain is finished, and doesn’t even deserve to be saved."

Insanity!!!-----Student vet with PTSD suspended, labeled ‘threat’ to peers after requesting to meet with non-Muslim counselor
Student vet with PTSD suspended, labeled ‘threat’ to peers after requesting to meet with non-Muslim counselor:
"Jeremy Rawls, a former active-duty Marine and senior at Mississippi College was recently suspended and labeled a threat to himself and other students after requesting to meet with a non-Muslim counselor.
Rawls has been diagnosed with several combat-related disabilities including lung disease and post traumatic stress disorder.
...In an exclusive interview with Campus Reform, the former active-duty Marine who served two combat tours in Iraq said his suspension came after he requested to meet with a different counselor in the school’s Office of Counseling and Disability Services.
Rawls, who is diagnosed with combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), was originally paired with a female counselor who wore traditional Muslim dress during his initial visit to the office.
“It’s not that I didn’t want to participate… I didn’t want to traumatize her and it wasn’t a good environment to be talking about [my disabilities] with that specific person,” Rawls said.
...“Their response was suspending me pending a mental evaluation which I provided and then they put me on further restriction and a reintegration program,” Rawls said.
In an email notifying Rawls of his suspension, Associate Dean of Students Jonathan Ambrose said administrators and the Student Intervention Team have a “due diligence in not only the protection of yourself, but also the campus community as a whole from potential harm or the threat there of.”
“You are not permitted to be on campus for any reason or attend class during the duration of the Interim Suspension unless you have written permission,” states an email sent to Rawls on Feb. 26 and later obtained by Campus Reform...

MUSKEGON, MI – County Commissioners discussed a county-wide plastic bag ordinance at a meeting Thursday.
MUSKEGON, MI – County Commissioners discussed a county-wide plastic bag ordinance at a meeting Thursday.
Commissioners held a work session May 21 to discuss the idea of an ordinance that would limit or reduce the usage of plastic bags, especially those given out free by retail shops.
No counties or municipalities in Michigan currently have such an ordinance.
The Board of Commissioners Chairman Terry Sabo had earlier suggested ban on shops giving out free plastic bags.
...Muskegon County Sustainability Coordinator Sara Damm gave a presentation of her research into plastic bag bans around the county, finding that ban paired with requiring a charge for checkout-lane paper bags seemed most effective in reducing usage.
....Commissioner Jeff Lohman said possibly several different approaches, such as an education campaign, recycling program and a ban could work together.
...Commissioners also discussed the possibility of only extending a ban on bags given out by larger retail stores, since the bigger stores might be better equipped to deal with the ordinance.
Sabo wasn't sure he liked that idea, though.
"The plastic bags coming out of those (smaller) stores are just as bad," he said.

When I was that age I loved having my mind boggled.”Saci Lloyd, author of the children’s book, The Carbon Diaries, said it was important to write engaging stories for children while keeping climate change as an underlying theme, so it was not obvious that it was a central topic...

Chuck Norris Makes Stunning Accusation About How Obama Is ‘Ensuring A 2016 Win’ For Dems:
"Furthermore, Norris cited the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program established by Obama to allow certain immigrants a fast track toward U.S. citizenship.
Perhaps the most troubling way this administration is using immigration to score electoral victories, Norris asserts, is by admitting refugees from any number of unfriendly, predominantly Muslim nations.
“Their strategy is to ‘seed your communities’ with at least 70,000 refugees a year,” he wrote, “including Iraqis, Burmese, Bhutanese, Somalis, Cubans, Syrians and others. And the numbers of Syrians, mostly Muslim, will surpass them all.”

Barack and Michelle's Taxpayer-Funded Free Ride Could Be About to Come to a Screeching Halt:
"What the bill would do is limit former presidents to $200,000 annually in federal benefits, and pay $200,000 as an annual allowance, limiting former presidents to no more than $400,000 total in taxpayer dollars.
Former presidents who earned more than $400,000 in any given year through their own efforts would receive no federal benefits under the proposal.
For instance, since former President Clinton made roughly $9.7 million last year, he would not have been eligible for any taxpayer dollars or federal benefits under the bill, as they obviously were unnecessary."

The Greek state is due to hand over the money in four installments in June, as part of its obligations for its 2011 bail-out.
Mr Voutsis’ comments came as Yanis Varoufakis, the Greek finance minister, told The Andrew Marr Show that if progress was not made, it would be the beginning of the end for the euro project.

Barack and Michelle's Taxpayer-Funded Free Ride Could Be About to Come to a Screeching Halt

Everybody needs to stop freaking out about laundry pods
Everybody needs to stop freaking out about laundry pods - The Washington Post:
"America's small children are facing an unprecedented new threat.
It's prompted thousands of calls to poison control centers, dire warnings from experts, congressional grandstanding and calls for new legislation.
I'm talking, of course, about laundry detergent pods.
A report in the fall found that the single-use laundry detergent packets, a relatively new invention, were sending kids to the hospital at a rate of roughly one per day.
Taken in isolation, the numbers sound scary.
There were more than 11,000 calls to poison control centers in 2013 for laundry detergent exposure from these pods, according to the American Association of Poison Control Centers National Poison Data System. Seven people have died after ingesting laundry detergent from a pod, according to a Wall Street Journal investigation.
Quoted in the New York Times last year, Marshal J. Casavant of the Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, characterized the laundry pod threat as "a very different order of magnitude than other hazards."
Actually no, it isn't."
