LIBERTY REVIEW

American Glory Days

By Tammy Derouin

On a recent shopping trip, I stopped at Hobby Lobby.  They have many items which make me feel like I’m walking through a museum.  It’s a nostalgic experience to stroll up and down the aisles.  There are many images of American heritage and pop culture.

The American spirit, as well as American ingenuity, is on full display as you walk through the store.  It ranges from the simplicity of the Mason jar to the many items representing American fortitude, which made our country so great.  Strength, hard work and determination resulted in many American success stories.  Iconic symbols and logos are timeless and have become part of the American landscape. They serve as proof that individuals built this country, not the government.

Many are able recall those American glory days.  We remember what it was like to be a can-do nation, prior to the transformation.   A feeling of pride turned to sadness as I wondered if we would be able to remain free.  Would such iconic symbols of capitalism and the free-market place someday land in a museum?  Would such symbols need to be housed in an underground museum?  The new reality is that the government built everything.  Will evidence to the contrary need to be destroyed?

One of the many iconic items I saw on display was The Super Friends.  I remember watching them every Saturday morning as a child.  Once upon a time they defended truth, justice and the American way. Far too many of our elected officials vilify truth, mock justice and are destroying the American way of life...

College Professor Accuses State Trooper of Racial Profiling — Then Investigators Listened to the Dashcam Audio | Video | TheBlaze.com:

"The Connecticut State Police Internal Affairs office concluded Roychoudhuri’s allegations were false and the trooper was exonerated on all charges, a news release stated. Some of that investigation included the recorded exchange between Roychoudhuri and the trooper."

So, race is the answer for everything?
What was the question... How do I blame others for my situation?

Study Ties Picky Eating In Preschoolers To Anxiety, Depression, ADHD And Family Problems

Study Ties Picky Eating In Preschoolers To Anxiety, Depression, ADHD And Family Problems - Forbes:
"Countless parents have faced the implacable resistance of the picky eater.
You struggle to assure that your kid’s basic nutritional needs are met, while every day confronting an impenetrable wall of disgust.
Maybe the only things that get through that wall are waffles and milk (and junk food).
What do you do?
Most picky eaters eventually expand their tastes.
But at its worst, picky eating (or selective eating, as psychologists prefer to call it) can be a threat to health and development.
And now, a new study shows, it is linked to significant psychological problems including anxiety, depression, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder."

Watch the Bizarre Question CNN Host Asks Man Behind Planned Parenthood Videos: ‘I Don’t Think That’s True at All’ | Video | TheBlaze.com:

"Appearing on CNN, the man behind the undercover Planned Parenthood videos was asked if he is a “violent extremist.”
“David,  your critics, critics of your organization I should say, say that you’re not journalists as you purport to be on your website, but rather you’re violent extremists,” host Alisyn Camerota told David Daleiden. “They say that you are operating under the guise of investigative reporting, but really you’re trying to shut down all Planned Parenthoods and women’s access to things like birth control and other services that they provide.”

So when it comes to the progressive left, the definition of a "violent extremist" changes to meet the needs of their agenda.

Drones Are Delivering Contraband To Prisons

Drones Are Delivering Contraband To Prisons | Fast Company | Business + Innovation: "SMUGGLERS ARE AIRLIFTING DRUGS INTO PRISON YARDS USING DRONES.
ONE SUCH INCIDENT CAUSED A FIGHT TO BREAK OUT IN AN OHIO PRISON LAST WEEK.
A drone transported nearly half a pound of drugs into an Ohio prison on July 29, sparking a fight among inmates.
Unknown parties coordinated the drop and flew the drone into a prison yard at the Mansfield Correctional Institute.
JoEllen Smith, a spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, told the Mansfield News Journal that the drone dropped a package containing more than 5 ounces of tobacco, over 2 ounces of marijuana, and nearly a quarter of an ounce of heroin.
The contraband seemingly instigated a fight between inmates who were out in the prison yard at the time.
...In 2014, the Lee Correctional Institution in South Carolina reported that a drone carrying marijuana, tobacco, and mobile phones crashed just outside its walls; in the past two years, there have been three other drone-smuggling incidents across the U.S., and more abroad."

The result of Obama's "free" college loans-------7th Circuit: Florida Coastal Law Grad Cannot Discharge $260,000 Student Loan Debt In Bankruptcy

TaxProf Blog: 7th Circuit: Florida Coastal Law Grad Cannot Discharge $260,000 Student Loan Debt In Bankruptcy:
"The Seventh Circuit has affirmed decisions of a federal bankruptcy court and district court preventing a Marquette (MBA) and Florida Coastal (J.D.) graduate from discharging $260,000 in student loan debt in bankruptcy.  Tetzlaff v. Educational Credit Management Corp., No. 14-3702 (7th Cir. July 22, 2015):
Mark Tetzlaff is fifty-six years old and lives in Waukesha, Wisconsin with his eighty-five-year-old mother; they both subsist on the income from her Social Security payments.
Tetzlaff is divorced, has no children, and is currently unemployed.
From the mid-1990s until 2005, Tetzlaff pursued a Masters in Business Administration from Marquette University, as well as a law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law (“Florida Coastal”).1
Most relevant to this appeal, Tetz-laff took out various federally guaranteed student loans to finance his graduate education.2
In 2004, Tetzlaff consolidated his student loan debt, and Educational Credit Manage-ment Corporation (“Educational Credit”) is now the guaran-tor for the outstanding loan amount.
Tetzlaff has been unsuccessful at passing a state bar exam to date (although he has made two attempts).
Prior to at-tending graduate school, Tetzlaff worked as a financial advisor, an employee-benefits consultant, an insurance salesman, and a stock broker.
Over the years, Tetzlaff has struggled with depression and alcohol abuse; he has also been involved in domestic disputes.
Tetzlaff has several misdemeanor convictions, including convictions for disorderly conduct and intimidating a victim.
He claims that all of these factors combined make it very difficult for him to secure employment"

Sooo, pot is good for your kids?-----Marijuana And Depression: Teen Use Not Linked To Depression, Study Suggests

Marijuana And Depression: Teen Use Not Linked To Depression, Study Suggests : Health & Medicine : Science World Report:
"New findings published in the journal Psychology of Addictive Behaviors found that contradictory to previous studies, teen marijuana use is not linked to physical or mental health issues.
"What we found was a little surprising," Jordan Bechtold, researcher and a psychology research fellow at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, said in a statement.
"There were no differences in any of the mental or physical health outcomes that we measured regardless of the amount or frequency of marijuana used during adolescence."
The most recent study was based on an offshoot of the Pittsburgh Youth Study that tracked 14-year-old male Pittsburgh public school students in the late 1980s, analyzing various health and social issues.
Over 12 years, all participants were surveyed annually or semiannually.
A follow-up survey was also conducted with 408 participants in 2009-10 when they were around the age of 36.
...Findings revealed that chronic marijuana use by boys was not linked to health issues like asthma, depression and psychotic symptoms later in life.
Furthermore, the study results also revealed no link between teen marijuana use and lifetime anxiety, depression, allergies, high blood pressure and/or headaches.
However, it's important to note that research from the American Lung Association has suggested that smoking marijuana can increase the risk of respiraratory issues, which may also lead to other health problems.

Fifth Undercover Planned Parenthood Video Released: ‘This Patient Was Like 18 Weeks’ (Warning: GRAPHIC) | Video | TheBlaze.com:

“This patient was at, like, 18 weeks, I think,” one medical staffer says, while sifting through fetal remains.
The clip also features the faux tissue buyers presumably asking if abortion procedures can be changed and adjusted to account for specific organ and tissue needs, including fully intact fetuses — to which Farrell seemingly responds affirmatively.

“So, if we alter our process and we are able to obtain intact fetal cadavers, then we can make it part of the budget that any dissections are this, and splitting the specimens into different shipments is this,” she said. “I mean that’s — it’s all just a matter of line items.”

Banned Medicaid providers still participate in some states, report says

Banned Medicaid providers still participate in some states, report says:
"Hundreds of medical providers banned from a Medicaid program in one state are able to take part in another state's program despite regulations designed to stop them, according to a report by an independent federal auditor to be released on Wednesday.
The continued participation of banned providers leaves state Medicaid programs for the poor and disabled vulnerable to fraud, waste and abuse, according to the study, which says the problem reflects a struggle by states to communicate with one another.
...“If a provider has been terminated by a state, that is a red flag, because it would indicate there was a problem either in billing or the way they handle patients," said Deborah Cosimo, team leader for the report. "
Do states really want to trust beneficiary care to someone who has problems like that?”

Paul Albaugh: Obama's Clean Power Plan Is Costly Political Theater

Paul Albaugh: Obama's Clean Power Plan Is Costly Political Theater — The Patriot Post:
"On Monday, Barack Obama announced new rules for his long-dreaded Clean Power Plan.
This past spring, we warned that Obama’s agenda to combat global warming would be finalized during the hottest days of summer.
As with almost every other agenda under Obama, it’s even worse than expected — and all to prevent warming of 0.01 degrees Celsius.
Winston Churchill once said, “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy. Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”
And make no mistake: Obama’s plan has little or nothing to do with climate and everything to do with his social justice worldview, in which he wants to handicap the U.S. ostensibly to the benefit of the rest of the world.
...As for the details, according to The Wall Street Journal, the new rule “would require a 32% cut in power-plant carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 from 2005 levels, an increase from the 30% target proposed last year.”
According to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, the estimated annual cost by 2030 will be $8.4 billion.
But keep in mind that government estimates are always low.

Muskegon invests $1 million for new homes

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- The city of Muskegon has invested $1 million to the construction of 10 to 15 new, market-rate homes.
"We hear people saying we'd love to live downtown but we don't want a fixer upper," said Frank Peterson, the city manager.
"Or the houses just aren't right."
Peterson said the project is part of the city's effort to move people back into the downtown corridor and re-establish a sense of community within its neighborhoods.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, population has decreased in the city of Muskegon for the past several years.
Between 2010 and 2013, 3.1 of Muskegon's inhabitants moved away.
"Again we do think a lot of that has to do with the inability to attract new homeowners into our community," Peterson said.
"We just don't have a product to offer them."
In addition to Muskegon's investment, the city has received a $250,000 grant from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority to combat blight.
The market-rate homes are expected to be ready for sale as early as next spring.

Fiorina: Thatcher Wasn't Content to Manage Decline, Neither Am I

Fiorina: Thatcher Wasn't Content to Manage Decline, Neither Am I - Breitbart:
"Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina channeled former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at Monday’s Voters First Presidential Forum in New Hampshire.
Fiorina stated, “I started out as a secretary in a little nine person real estate firm.
I went on to lead the largest technology country in the world, and now I’m running for the presidency of the United States.
My story is only possible in America.
But our nation is at a pivotal time.
Whatever your issue or cause or festering problem that you hope would be resolved, the political class has let you down.
Margaret Thatcher once said, ‘I am not content to manage the decline of a great nation.’
Neither am I.
We need a president who understands the economy, the world, how it works, who’s in it, bureaucracy, how to hold them accountable, cut them down to size, technology.
I have a proven track record of challenging the status quo and problem solving.
With your support and your vote, I will lead the resurgence of a great nation.”"

America's Internet Control Near Its End...

America's Internet Control Near Its End... | Conservative Byte:
Under the plan, nonprofit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) would create a separate legal entity that would be contracted to handle key technical functions of the online address system.
As Reported By AFP:
A “Customer Standing Committee” would monitor performance of what would essentially be an ICANN subsidiary, and a review process involving stake-holders would be put in place.
...ICANN president Fadi Chehade said last month that the end of the US role is now set for mid-2016, with the transition pushed back by a year to allow time for input from the Internet community and review by the US government and Congress.
ICANN will become an independent entity without US government oversight for the Internet’s domain and address system, Chehade said, noting that the transition is likely to take place between July and September 2016.
“We will further empower the community to ensure the accountability of ICANN as an institution,” Chehade said in an interview with AFP in Washington.
“By making this independent and neutral we are enhancing the longevity of this model.”
Yeah, right...

Federal Government Hires Lunatic Comedian Dick Gregory to Deliver Anti-White Tirade to Employees

Federal Government Hires Lunatic Comedian Dick Gregory to Deliver Anti-White Tirade to Employees - The Gateway Pundit:
Your tax dollars at work–
The US Census Bureau brought in lunatic black activist, comedian and “nutritionist” Dick Gregory to deliver a speech to employees.
Judicial Watch reported:
...But Gregory’s angry outburst at the Census Bureau was not funny to some employees and the agency was forced to explain that it will thoroughly review its procedures for selecting future speakers to “ensure their views are appropriate for the federal workplace.”
Based on Gregory’s well-known reputation as a fiery race-baiter, it’s unlikely that the government officials who booked him didn’t know about his discriminating, shock-based performances.
The Census Bureau paid Gregory $1,400 to “share a wealth of history as a Civil Rights Activist,” according to the records obtained by JW under the federal public records law known as the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
Instead, American taxpayers funded a disgusting stand-up routine filled with the “N word” and replete with conspiracy theories about whites and the U.S. government targeting prominent blacks—including Martin Luther King and Malcom X—for assassination or career destruction (golfer Tiger Woods and beleaguered comedian Bill Cosby).
Gregory also said whites stole black inventions, such as ice hockey and the cotton gin, and accused the U.S. government of conspiring to kill Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Ohio.
The movie King Kong is really a depiction of former heavyweight champion Jack Johnson dating white women,
Gregory claimed at the Census Bureau performance, and whites treat President Obama “like dirt” and “like he’s a Redneck Cracker that can’t read or write.”
Gregory delivered most of his routine in Ebonics (also known as African American Vernacular English) and advised his black audience not to obey “white racist cops,” which he also referred to as “filth.”

Clinton, Asked What She’ll Do About Money in Politics, Explains “Mrrph Blvvvr Lrrrrg”

Clinton, Asked What She’ll Do About Money in Politics, Explains “Mrrph Blvvvr Lrrrrg”:
"Newly available video shows Hillary Clinton at the Iowa City Public Library responding to a request from Mason Buonadonna, a 19-year-old University of Iowa student, to “name two civic things that you’re going to do to combat money in politics.”
Clinton, who has vaguely vowed to make “Revitalizing Our Democracy” one of the “Four Fights” of her presidential campaign, responded largely with a flavorless mush of platitudes...
Transcript:
BUONADONNA: Do you know if you support publicly financed elections?
CLINTON: Yeah?
BUONADONNA: And can you name two civic things that you’re going to do to combat money in politics?
CLINTON: Well, let me say that I believe in publicly financed elections, we’ve had a check box on the tax form for a long time, and most people don’t check it anymore.
And with the Supreme Court opening the door to all this unaccountable, undisclosed money, it’s very difficult to get the changes we need.
And then we’ve got a Federal Elections Commission that is paralyzed because Republicans won’t enforce the laws, even as we think that they should be.
So I think we have to do several things.
Most importantly, we have to reverse the effects, not just of Citizens United, but of the Buckley case, and I’m going to do everything I can to appoint Supreme Court justices who understand that, I’ll do everything I can to then go to a legal framework and, as I said, if necessary I will support a constitutional amendment, okay?
BUONADONNA: Thank you so much.
CLINTON: Thank you.

Alpha Natural Resources files for bankruptcy

Alpha Natural Resources files for bankruptcy - Longview News-Journal - Longview, TX:
"Alpha Natural Resources, once a powerhouse of the American coal industry, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection so it may emerge from the grip of a $3 billion debt at a time utilities are switching to natural gas and coal prices are plummeting.
Alpha borrowed heavily in 2011 to buy Massey Energy for $7.1 billion, seeking, like many coal companies at the time, to acquire an empire of Appalachian coal mines in the hope China would be a growth market for exports.
That deal turned out to be a disaster for the company when demand for both steel-making and power-generating coal declined domestically and in several important international markets in recent years."

Joe Bastardi: All This for .01 Degrees Celsius?

Joe Bastardi: All This for .01 Degrees Celsius? — The Patriot Post:
As the president reveals his plan to reduce greenhouse gases to save us from an apocalyptic atmosphere, I wish to remind people of three things:
1.) The true hockey stick of the fossil fuel era: Global progress in total population, personal wealth and life expectancy.
This is truly amazing.
To show how fossil fuels played a roll in expanding the global pie, there are many more people alive today living longer and enjoying a higher GDP.
One has to wonder if someone against fossil fuels is simply anti-progress
Ironic since many in the camp of anthropogenic global warming like to label themselves “progressive.”
They’re certainly anti-statistic given something like this staring them in the face.
2.) The geological time scale of temperatures versus CO2.

As much as I struggle, I can’t see the linkage
Maybe it’s like one of those books where you have to stare at it and cross your eyes to see the picture.
3.) EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy admitted that the steps being taken would only prevent .01 degrees Celsius of warming, but it was the example that counted for the rest of the world.
This article sums that up pretty nicely.
This in addition to the fact that, in 2011, she admitted she did not know how much CO2 was in the atmosphere.
And its lines of evidence for this are provably false!
Given the facts, I can’t help but wonder: Did policymakers ever take Economics 101, or a course in how to read a chart?
When I see simple questions that can raise doubts, if not outright debunk all this, it’s like watching the opening from the old Twilight Zone Series: “You are traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop, the Twilight Zone!”
