F.B.I. Tool to Identify Extremists Is Criticized - The New York Times

F.B.I. Tool to Identify Extremists Is Criticized - The New York Times:

The F.B.I. is about to introduce an interactive program it developed for teachers and students, aimed at training them to prevent young people from being drawn into violent extremism. But Muslim, Arab and other religious and civil rights leaders who were invited to preview the program have raised strong objections, saying it focuses almost entirely on Islamic extremism, which they say has not been a factor in the epidemic of school shootings and attacks in the United States.

The program, according to those who saw it at F.B.I. headquarters, called “Don’t Be a Puppet,” leads the viewer through a series of games and tips intended to teach how to identify someone who may be falling prey to radical extremists. With each successful answer, scissors cut a puppet’s string, until the puppet is free.

In the campaign against terrorists such as the Islamic State, law enforcement agencies have been stepping up efforts to identify those susceptible to recruitment. The agencies have enlisted the cooperation and advice of religious and community leaders. But the controversy over the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s new online tool is one more indication that there is no consensus on who should be involved in detecting and reporting suspects, and where to draw the line between prevention and racial or religious profiling.

Film critic laments Charlie Brown’s lack of ‘non-white love interest’ in new ‘Peanuts’ movie

Film critic laments Charlie Brown’s lack of ‘non-white love interest’ in new ‘Peanuts’ movie | The American Mirror:
Peter Debruge, who is not only a film critic for Variety — but the *chief international* film critic! — really wanted to see the animated Charlie Brown make out with a “non-white love interest” in the new Peanuts movie.
Alas, Debruge’s desires will go unfilled as the filmmakers refused to “modernize.”
The “Chief International Film Critic” for the entertainment site is disappointed the characters — created in 1950 — don’t reflect Debruge’s world view.
He writes:
Like most classic jokes, “Peanuts” isn’t so much funny as mildly amusing, which is evidently one of the many aspects of Schulz’s legacy that his son Craig and grandson Bryan fought to protect as screenwriters and producers on the film (presumably trumping their genuinely hilarious collaborator, Paul Feig, also credited as a producer alongside co-writer Cornelius Uliano).
But a little modernization wouldn’t have hurt, especially in the diversity department. While Franklin remains Charlie Brown’s only brown friend, a non-white love interest would have been as progressive as Schulz’s tomboyish depiction of Peppermint Patty was back in the day. (emphasis added)
Readers almost universally ridiculed Debrudge’s suggestion to turn the movie into a “progressive” statement.

University hosts 'How To Bring Your Kids Up Gay' workshops

University hosts 'How To Bring Your Kids Up Gay' workshops - The College Fix:
"Boston University recently hosted “How To Bring Your Kids Up Gay” workshops, billed as “freewheeling” discussions on the topic.
The theme for the talks, held last week, was drawn from Eve Sedgwick’s 1991 essay “How to Bring Your Kids Up Gay: The War on Effeminate Boys.”
“This short, accessible text focused attention on the alarming rate of suicide among gay and gender non-conforming youth, and critiqued the failure of psychotherapists in the US to address this crisis with queer-affirmative interventions,” BU’s website states.
“[T]hese sessions aimed to foster intellectual community among students across the university, while also bringing together students and faculty members with shared intellectual interests outside the context of the classroom.”
But not everyone believes the discussions were innocuous or academically sound.
Journalist Robert Stacy McCain, a critic of feminist theory, offered his own take on the talks in a post on his blog The Other McCain titled: “The Queering of Feminism: Why Does ‘Equality’ Require Promoting Perversion?”
… Sedgwick assumes as her premise that any psychiatric problems (including suicide) experienced by homosexual or “gender-nonconforming children” can only be explained by society’s homophobia. According to Sedgwick, the psychiatric community’s “pathologizing diagnosis” of homosexuality as a mental disorder prior to 1973 was nothing but an expression of anti-gay bigotry and, in 1991, Sedgwick perceived a “danger” that psychiatry might continue to view “the effeminate boy” in this way. …
Feminism’s ironclad grip on academia means that parents who pay $48,436 a year to send their sons and daughters to Boston University can be certain that their children will never be exposed to any perspective on “sexuality and gender” that contradicts the “feminist and queer theory” …"

"My mujahideen brothers in all places and of all groups … we face aggression from America, Europe, and Russia … so it’s up to us to stand together as one from East Turkestan to Morocco,” Zawahiri said.

Vocativ has more as well:

“Those who support Israel should pay in their blood and economy the price for supporting the crimes of Israel against Islam and Muslims,” he said.

He also called on fighters to follow in the path of those who carried out the September 11, 2001 attacks, “and the attacks in Madrid, Bali, London and Paris.”

Spiritual Suicide: When European Churches Sell Their Souls to Islam

Spiritual Suicide: When European Churches Sell Their Souls to Islam - Michael Brown - Page 1:
"At a time when Christians in the Middle East are being tortured, beheaded, and crucified rather than denying Jesus, Christians in Europe – I should say so-called Christians – are renouncing the Great Commission and removing the cross (literally) to make peace with Muslims.
What kind of madness is this?
Last month, in Sweden, the Bishop of Stockholm “proposed a church in her diocese remove all signs of the cross and put down markings showing the direction to Mecca for the benefit of Muslim worshippers.”
As reported on Breitbart.com, “Calling Muslim guests to the church ‘angels’, the Bishop later took to her official blog to explain that removing Christian symbols from the church and preparing the building for Muslim prayer doesn’t make a priest any less a defender of the faith. Rather, to do any less would make one ‘stingy towards people of other faiths’.”..
It gets worse....

I'm startin' to like this guy-----Jim Harbaugh: 'I take a vitamin every day; it's called a steak'

Jim Harbaugh: 'I take a vitamin every day; it's called a steak' | MLive.com:
"ANN ARBOR -- Well, here's a new one.
Jim Harbaugh's had plenty of interesting one-liners this season, and Monday night's might rank right up there with all of them.
Two weeks ago, it was Ernest Hemingway.
Last week, it was worms and machine guns.
Now?
Red meat, and how important it is to the growth and health of the human body.
"I take a vitamin every day," Harbaugh said on his radio show Monday night.
"It's called a steak."
Harbaugh was asked by listener question about how a parent might be able to get their young son in position to one day be a 6-foot-5 quarterback.
Obviously, the listener was angling for a Harbaugh milk answer -- which he dropped earlier this year.
But he took it one step further.
Because, of course, he did.
"I truly believe the No. 1 natural steroid is sleep, and the No. 2 natural steroid is milk, whole milk," Harbaugh said.
"Three would be water.
Four would be steak.
"(Steak) ... it goes with everything.""

Clueless Hillary Supporters Say They Support Sharia Law

Clueless Hillary Supporters Say They Support Sharia Law | The Federalist Papers:
"In their defense, given the fact that these are Hillary Clinton supporters the most likely explanation is that they don’t have a clue what Sharia Law really is.
I have never understood why liberals are so wanting to bend over backward to make Muslim immigrants feel “comfortable” and not threatened by our culture, when Muslims literally hate everything liberals believe in.

UN planning 'International Tribunal of Climate Justice' to take countries to court

UN planning 'International Tribunal of Climate Justice' to take countries to court | Daily Mail Online
UN planning an 'international tribunal of climate justice' which would allow nations to take developed countries to court
  • UN document reveals plans of International Tribunal of Climate Justice
  • One of three suggested ways to implement agreed climate goals
  • Draft by subsidiary body of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
  • If approved, it will be presented at UN climate summit in Paris in December
...In essence, this means that any UN member state who agrees to the international deal to tackle climate change and fails to honour its commitment can be brought before the tribunal.
The Paris conference seeks to unite all the world's nations in a single agreement on tackling climate change, with the goal of capping warming at two degrees...
The possibility of an International Tribunal of Climate Justice has been criticised in the U.S., where some commentators have argued that it will lead to developing nations dragging President Obama into court and bypassing Congress.
'Whatever they call it, countries who sign onto this agreement will be voting to expand the reach of the UN climate bureaucracy, cede national sovereignty, and create a one-way street along which billions will be redistributed from developed to poor nations,' claims CFACT co-founder Craig Rucker.
'Developed nations would be expected to slash their emissions while the "poor" [developing] countries expand theirs,' he adds.

"This simple message proves that our men and women in uniform don’t hate the terrorists they fight, but only seek to serve justice upon them by hastening their appearance in front of the ultimate judge.

Honestly, what could be more American than that? After all, the Sixth Amendment to our own Constitution demands that all those accused of wrongdoing be granted a speedy trial."

Climate Change Kills the Mood: Economists Warn of Less Sex on a Warmer Planet - Bloomberg Business:
"Climate change has been blamed for many things over the years.
Never, until now, has anyone thought it was possible to see it as a kind of contraceptive.
Hot weather leads to diminished “coital frequency," according to a new working paper put out by the National Bureau of Economic Research.
Three economists studied 80 years of U.S. fertility and temperature data and found that when it’s hotter than 80 degrees F, a large decline in births follows within 10 months.
Would-be parents tend not to make up for lost time in subsequent, cooler months.
An extra "hot day" (the economists use quotation marks with the phrase) leads to a 0.4 percent drop in birth rates nine months later, or  1,165 fewer deliveries across the U.S.
A rebound in subsequent months makes up just 32 percent of the gap.
The researchers, who hail from Tulane University, the University of California-Santa Barbara, and the University of Central Florida, believe that their findings give policymakers three major things to think about."
