This obsession with 'cultural appropriation' is leading us down a very dark path - Spectator Blogs
Just when you thought uptight, fun-dodging, thought-policing millennials couldn’t get any worse, they go and brand yoga as racist. Apparently, when white people bend themselves bonkers while humming or thinking happy-clappy thoughts, they’re not only being self-punishing saps: they are also ‘culturally appropriating’ a practice that has ‘roots in Indian culture’.
That’s according to student leaders at the University of Ottawa, who put pressure on a yoga teacher at the uni’s Centre for Students with Disabilities to call off her yoga classes. She was told ‘there are cultural issues of implication involved in the practice’. In these people’s minds, in which the Offence-Seeking Antenna is forever turned to High, a white person doing yoga is not that different to a white person donning blackface and singing ‘Mammy’.
It’s enough to make you miss the days when students only hounded neo-fascists off campus. Now they can’t bear the sight of a few bendy middle-class people in tie-dye pants and peace-symbol t-shirts. So desperate is this new generation to take offence, and to smash the thing that had the temerity to offend them, that they can’t even see people relaxing (yoga’s meant to be relaxing, right?) without thinking: ‘I wonder if this form of relaxation is problematic?’

The idea of ‘cultural appropriation’ sums up everything rotten in today’s intensifying politics of identity. It’s fuelled by the borderline racist idea that to mix cultures is bad. It isn’t only yoga that’s getting it in its supple neck from these new cultural purists: white rappers like Iggy Azalea are slammed for appropriating black culture; students have been banned from wearing sombreros lest Mexicans feel mocked; non-black celebs who try out the cornrow hairstyle can expect to be Twitch-hunted by mobs of these new cultural purists who think black people and white people should stick to their own cultural camps.
Time magazine recently published an article headlined: ‘Cornrows and Cultural Appropriation: The Truth About Racial Identity Theft.’ It mused on bovine whites’ ‘appropriation’, ‘assimilation’, ‘exploitation’, and ‘plundering’ of black culture. This is the world we live in, folks, where even Time can lose the plot over white folks plaiting their hair in a particular way.
The PC rage against cultural appropriation is ultimately a demand for cultural segregation, for black people, white people, Latinos, gay people, women and every other racial, gender or sexual group to stick with their own culture and people and not allow themselves to be diluted by outsiders.
Gay men have been condemned by the National Union of Students for ‘appropriating black female culture’. Barmy NUS officials think it’s the height of racism for a gay guy to talk about having an ‘inner black woman’. The irony being that it’s hard to think of anything more racist, or at least racially divisive, than the ideology of cultural appropriation: its obsession with cultural purity echoes some of the darkest political movements of the twentieth century.
The fear of cultural mixing induces social paralysis. We have a new generation who can’t enjoy music, films, food, yoga or anything without having an existential crisis. The zany website Everyday Feminism, which incredibly is not parodic, has published ‘The Feminist Guide to Being a Foodie Without Being Culturally Appropriative‘, which advises against ‘seeking “authentic”, “exotic” or “ethnic” food’. How sad that these people can’t even tuck into a Thai curry without worrying that they’re being unwittingly Thaiphobic.
All the blather about cultural appropriation is hilarious, of course. But the censoriousness and separatism of this pseudo-progressive politics is a tragedy. It’s a pox on the ideal of universalism. Identity politics constantly mitigates against the old, properly progressive values of sharing and solidarity, of people mixing with and learning from and standing with others. Cultural purity is a recipe for conflict; give me rock, dance, chicken tikka masala, fusion food and all the other stuff that has sprung from ‘cultural appropriation’ – even bloody yoga – over this PC shoving of people into biological boxes.

Rush Limbaugh Warns Obama Will Do Things We Can’t 'Conceive of Now’ - Breitbart:
“We’re fast approaching Obama’s last year in office,” Limbaugh said. “I want to warn you again, in all likelihood, there are going to be things this president does in the next 12 months that you can’t even think of or conceive of now.”
Limbaugh continued that Obama recognizes no limits to his power and he will do what he wants – “it doesn’t matter what the courts say, it doesn’t matter if Obama policies have a stay on them or temporary halt.”

VA Officials Still Employed After Being Accused of Stealing More Than $400K | Fox News Insider:
The Department of Veterans Affairs is under fire after two senior officials accused of fraud were demoted but not fired.
Diana Rubens and Kimberly Graves have both been demoted from regional directors to assistant directors after they allegedly manipulated the agency’s hiring system, “Fox and Friends” reported this morning.
The two are accused of stealing more than $400,000 from taxpayers.
In addition, they are said to have forced regional managers at more junior levels to accept job transfers, then snatching up those positions for themselves.
Despite the lower pay grade, Rubens and Graves then kept their salaries of $181,497 and $173,949 respectively, according to the Associated Press.
Veteran advocates say this is unacceptable, and are demanding the two be fired.
Both Rubens and Graves refused to testify in Congress earlier this month, saying they had a Fifth Amendment right to not incriminate themselves.

The reason a majority of Americans do not want to accept Muslim refugees in the U.S. is based on security, Bill O’Reilly said in his Talking Points Memo tonight.
O'Reilly noted an ABC News poll that revealed 54 percent of Americans oppose taking Syrian refugees, even after they've been screened, while 43 percent are OK with admitting those refugees.
"The cold truth of the matter is the majority of Americans have no confidence that the Obama administration can protect them from harm," O'Reilly said. "President Obama and the Democratic Party are so liberal, so frightened and so chaotic, they cannot provide security for we the people."
"The Factor" host pointed out that even though the southern border is still unsecured and thousands of potentially dangerous illegal immigrants are freed from prison every year, Obama still chastises Republicans and those who oppose allowing Syrian refugees in the country.
"What President Obama does not understand is that he has lost all credibility in matters of security," O'Reilly said. "The Democratic Party is completely ineffective in fighting terrorism."
He explained that Republicans should use that to win the 2016 election by stating to voters clearly and precisely how they would defeat ISIS, secure the border and deal with criminal illegal immigrants.

Bolton: Russia's Fault Turkey Shot Down Its Jet Near Syrian Border | Fox News Insider:
Fox News Contributor John Bolton said responsibility lies with Russia over the downing of its fighter by Turkish F-16's near the Syrian border.
The former Ambassador to the U.N. said Russia "shouldn't be in this region at all."
"They undertook the risk of adventurism by putting an air base in at Latakia. This kind of incident in the air was entirely predictable, the only surprise is it hasn't happened before this."
Bolton said it was significant that there was a Russian overflight into NATO airspace.
He said that President Obama should tell Russian President Vladimir Putin, "in the most diplomatic terms we can find ... 'back off.'"
Tuesday's incident is the first time since the 1950s that a Russian or Soviet military aircraft has been publicly acknowledged to have been shot down by a NATO country, according to Reuters.
A U.S. defense official told Fox News that radar tracks validate Turkey’s claims that the aircraft entered its airspace and refused to leave, despite repeated warnings.
Putin warned that the incident was "a stab in the back" and would have "significant consequences" for its relations with Turkey and criticized Ankara for turning to NATO to discuss the incident instead of first explaining to Russia what happened.

"Matt Drudge’s first tweet in months came with a cryptic message: “A shocking truth is unfolding: America has been arming ISIS.”
The Obama administration has been plagued for weeks over news U.S. weapons supplied to Syrian rebels were inadvertently winding up in the hands of terror groups. The media giant’s tweet on Tuesday alludes to something far more sinister.
Major media outlets covered the ineptitude of Obama’s U.S.-trained rebels in early November, but there was no evidence he purposefully sent weapons to terror networks determined to attack America.
“Moderate rebels who had been armed and trained by the United States either surrendered or defected to the extremists as the Jabhat al-Nusra group,"

NOAA chief tells lawmaker: No one will ‘coerce the scientists who work for me’ - The Washington Post:
"The Obama administration is continuing to resist efforts by a top House Republican to gain access to the internal deliberations of federal scientists who authored a groundbreaking global warming study the lawmaker is investigating.
In response to a threat from House Science Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Tex.) to subpoena Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, the head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration told Smith in a letter Friday that her staff will not be influenced by political interference.
“I have not or will not allow anyone to manipulate the science or coerce the scientists who work for me,” Administrator Kathryn Sullivan wrote.
“If the committee doubts the integrity of the study,” Sullivan wrote, “it has the tools it needs to commission a competing scientific assessment.”
Sullivan was responding to Smith’s claim last week that the climate study, published in June in the peer-reviewed journal Science, was “rushed to publication” over the objections of some NOAA scientists.
Smith, a prominent congressional climate-change skeptic, has for weeks demanded internal documents and e-mails from NOAA he says will prove that the scientists manipulated global temperature data to advance President Obama’s climate agenda.
Sullivan has refused to turn them over.
...“Dr. Karl’s study reflects the essence of the scientific process, which involves continually refining conclusions as new data and information is discovered,” Sullivan wrote, referring to Thomas Karl, who led the NOAA team..."

The Secret Sex Abuse Victims of Bill Clinton
The Secret Sex Abuse Victims of Bill Clinton - Breitbart
Bill Clinton is a longtime alleged sex abuser of women, especially prolific during the years he has been associated with Hillary.
In many respects, the case of Bill Clinton is similar to that of Bill Cosby. Bill Clinton, like Bill Cosby, has been enabled by the powerful and by a retinue of flunkeys that profit from Clinton’s high status.
Just a mere year ago, despite knowing 13 women had gone on record with claims that Cosby had abused them, the executives at NBC were on the verge of giving the then-77 year-old comedian yet another TV sitcom.
Now, a year later, after 50 women victims have come forward, Bill Cosby’s celebrity and fatherly image have justifiably been destroyed and he may forever be thought of as one of the most famous serial rapists in American history.
Bill Clinton is in a similar situation.
The public knows all about Clinton’s alleged rape of Juanita Broaddrick from her tearful account on national TV in 1999.
They also know that a red-faced Clinton allegedly exposed himself to Paula Jones in May 1991, and asked her to “kiss” his erection.
What many people do not know is that when this became public in 1993, all Paula Jones wanted was an apology from Clinton and not a penny.[i] Clinton’s response was that he did not even know her. Later in 1998, Clinton ended up paying Paula Jones a whopping $850,000 for his behavior, which was compounded by his lying.
Likewise people know about Kathleen Willey, an alleged victim of both Bill and Hillary Clinton. According to Willey, in November 1993 a red-faced Bill sexually assaulted her in the Oval Office. Later, because she was deposed as a material witness in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case, Hillary reportedly used nasty private detectives to run a terror campaign of witness tampering on Willey.
We’d call it a Hillary-sponsored psychological rape of Willey.[ii]
Vicious private detective Jack Palladino allegedly bragged about being hired by Hillary to intimidate Willey.
All of this raises the question: how many more sexual victims of Bill Clinton are out there?..."

“What?”
“That’s not funny.”

Charles Krauthammer said on "The O'Reilly Factor" that he believes President Obama has reached "the bottom of the barrel" in his attempts to defend his strategy to combat ISIS.
Bill O'Reilly noted that a few days ago in Malaysia, Obama criticized the American media for how it reports on terror attacks, calling on reporters "to maintain perspective."
The president suggested that the media should be careful to "not empower, in any way, these terrorist organizations or elevate them in ways that make it easier for them to recruit."
Krauthammer responded that Obama is now "so naked on the world stage" as people in both parties - including leading Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Obama's former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta - recognize that "his strategy is a bankrupt one."
"He is seen as so weak, so inviting of this kind of attack on the West, that what's he got left to say? To pretend we're winning the war? Of course we're not," said Krauthammer.
He then questioned how the media could ever "play up too much" the murder of 130 innocent people in Paris in six coordinated assaults, along with other recent terror attacks in Nigeria, Mali and Beirut.
"Brussels is now shut down just by the [ISIS] threat. What can he say? He's been in charge for seven years," Krauthammer concluded.

Evidence of employers paying women 23% less than men for doing the same work is as elusive as Bigfoot sightings
Evidence of employers paying women 23% less than men for doing the same work is as elusive as Bigfoot sightings - AEI | Carpe Diem Blog » AEIdeas:
There is widespread acceptance by the general public, especially among women, progressives and Democrats, of the completely bogus claim that women are paid “77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men,” in the words of President Obama.
Hillary Clinton repackaged the bogus claim by stating recently that “On average, women need to work an extra two hours each day to earn the same paycheck as their male co-workers.”
The National Committee on Pay Equityclaims that women have to work until sometime in mid-April each year to earn the same amount of income a typical man made the previous year. A recent report from the World Economic Forum claims that it will take 118 years – until 2133 – to close the world gender pay gap

A recent report from the World Economic Forum claims that it will take 118 years – until 2133 – to close the world gender pay gap
Despite the widespread acceptance of the “77 cents on the dollar for the same job” claim, there is rarely ever any specific evidence presented showing that specific firms are in violation of federal law by paying women 23% less than men for doing the same job.
What Obama, Clinton and gender activists are really implying is that firms across the country are illegally violating the Equal Pay Act of 1963 by paying women 77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men, and those deliberate and ongoing violations are somehow going undetected.
If there were such ubiquitous gender wage disparities in violation of federal law, why are there not extensive investigations by the Department of Justice or the Office of Civil Rights?
And why isn’t there a cottage industry of law firms specializing in representing women who are victims of the supposed pervasive gender discrimination, the way there are hundreds of law firms representing mesothelioma victims who were exposed to asbestos on the job?
Just where do we find these companies that apparently have illegal dual-wage policies: one wage schedule for men and another one for women at wages 23% below their male co-workers for doing the same job?
Where are the organizations that are paying women 23% less than men and exposing their organizations to legal prosecution, fines and penalties?
Those questions are never answered by Obama, Clinton, the National Committee on Pay Equity, or the gender activists.
Where are the organizations that are paying women 23% less than men and exposing their organizations to legal prosecution, fines and penalties?
Those questions are never answered by Obama, Clinton, the National Committee on Pay Equity, or the gender activists.
...Perversely perhaps, maybe the false “77 cents on the dollar” narrative is actually perpetuated by the total lack of any evidence that any employers actually pay women 23% less than men for the same job. After all, it’s better to keep those mythical violations very vague, ambiguous, and undocumented as a way to keep the myth alive, like very rare sightings of Bigfoot. If the bogus myth of widespread 23% gender wage gaps throughout the economy was ever exposed to the sunlight of evidence and truth, it would wilt and disappear, no longer available as a popular issue to generate political support and votes from women.
...Unfortunately, the 23% gender pay gap for the same work claim is a statistical fraud that keeps getting recycled and promoted by politicians like Obama and Clinton because it apparently has a huge political payoff for uniformed voters.
And it will continue to have a political payoff as long as average Americans, especially women, buy the statistical snake-oil promoted by Democrats that women are paid 23% less than men on average for doing the same job..."

Lepore said he met with police officials, where he was told that community groups were upset about the protest and he wouldn't be rehired.
The 68-year-old retired from the Providence Police Department in 1989 and was then hired by the city to direct downtown traffic each holiday season.
Commuters know him for his dance moves that's he's been perfecting since 1984. He's appeared on national television shows.

"The University of Ottawa in Canada is ending a free on-campus yoga class over concerns the popular meditative exercise routine could be seen as a form of ”cultural appropriation.”
The university’s Centre for Students with Disabilities is claiming ”while yoga is a really great idea and accessible and great for students … there are cultural issues of implication involved in the practice.”

Was Russian aircraft shot down because its satellite navigation was wrong? | Ars Technica:
"Was a Russian Su-24 strike bomber over Turkish airspace earlier today when it was shot down by a Turkish F-16 fighter, as the Turkish government claimed?
Or did it, as the Russians have claimed, fly in Syrian airspace and never cross the Turkish border? The Turkish and Russian governments have published conflicting evidence on the plane's location as accusations fly between the two sides.
But it's entirely possible both sides are right—based on different data sources.
...the Russians have published their own version of navigational tracking data that shows the Su-24 flying south of a part of the Turkish border that juts southward into Syria.
...it's still possible that the GLONASS system used by the Russian military for navigation may have given the aircrew different information than the Turks had.
GLONASS has fewer satellites than GPS, and more of its satellites follow the same orbital path.
That makes positioning errors more likely..."
