Political Correctness Strips the South of All Vestiges of Slavery While Ignoring Islam’s Contribution | TheBlaze.com

Political Correctness Strips the South of All Vestiges of Slavery While Ignoring Islam’s Contribution | TheBlaze.com:

"One only wonders how far PCers will go with their outrageous logic. However, if truly concerned about PC, they naively neglect targeting the real vestiges of slavery’s historic roots.

The slave trade existed long before America did. Its originators were Muslims whose Islamic religion granted them the right, as believers, to enslave non-believers.

Historians agree as bad as the trans-Atlantic slave trade was, it was much worse for slaves owned by Muslims. Most never got the chance to suffer Muslim brutality, dying in route to their destination.

Male slaves were castrated; females taken as sex slaves. Muslims were, and remain, the world’s biggest enslavers in history. When Europeans entered the slave market, they looked to Muslims as suppliers.

Yet, no similar effort to hold Muslims responsible for their transgressions—even though such practices continue today—is undertaken. Why, for example, don’t PCers seek to eliminate Islamic studies from college curriculum or to ban Muslim clothing in public? Why target the Southern slave trader facilitator but not the Muslim originator?"

Saving Science

Saving Science - The New Atlantis
"Science isn’t self-correcting, it’s self-destructing.
To save the enterprise, scientists must come out of the lab and into the real world.
Science, pride of modernity, our one source of objective knowledge, is in deep trouble.
Stoked by fifty years of growing public investments, scientists are more productive than ever, pouring out millions of articles in thousands of journals covering an ever-expanding array of fields and phenomena.
Image result for junk scienceBut much of this supposed knowledge is turning out to be contestable, unreliable, unusable, or flat-out wrong.
From metastatic cancer to climate change to growth economics to dietary standards, science that is supposed to yield clarity and solutions is in many instances leading instead to contradiction, controversy, and confusion.
Along the way it is also undermining the four-hundred-year-old idea that wise human action can be built on a foundation of independently verifiable truths.
Science is trapped in a self-destructive vortex; to escape, it will have to abdicate its protected political status and embrace both its limits and its accountability to the rest of society.
The story of how things got to this state is difficult to unravel, in no small part because the scientific enterprise is so well-defended by walls of hype, myth, and denial.
But much of the problem can be traced back to a bald-faced but beautiful lie upon which rests the political and cultural power of science.
This lie received its most compelling articulation just as America was about to embark on an extended period of extraordinary scientific, technological, and economic growth.
It goes like this:
Scientific progress on a broad front results from the free play of free intellects, working on subjects of their own choice, in the manner dictated by their curiosity for exploration of the unknown.
“The free play of free intellects...dictated by their curiosity...”

American journalism is collapsing before our eyes

American journalism is collapsing before our eyes | New York Post:
"Donald Trump may or may not fix his campaign, and Hillary Clinton may or may not become the first female president.
But something else happening before our eyes is almost as important: the complete collapse of American journalism as we know it.
The frenzy to bury Trump is not limited to the Clinton campaign and the Obama White House.
They are working hand in hand with what was considered the cream of the nation’s news organizations.
The shameful display of naked partisanship by the elite media is unlike anything seen in modern America.
The largest broadcast networks — CBS, NBC and ABC — and major newspapers like the New York Times and Washington Post have jettisoned all pretense of fair play. Their fierce determination to keep Trump out of the Oval Office has no precedent.
Indeed, no foreign enemy, no terror group, no native criminal gang suffers the daily beating that Trump does. The mad mullahs of Iran, who call America the Great Satan and vow to wipe Israel off the map, are treated gently by comparison."

It Won’t Take You Long to Figure Out Why Second-Grade Teacher’s New Homework Policy Is Going Viral | Video | TheBlaze.com:

"Homework assignments for young grade schoolers seems all-too-common these days — much to the chagrin of many parents who’d prefer their children attend to other activities at the end of a long day.

And now one North Texas teacher is completely on board with that philosophy."

TEMPORARY TATTOOS given to German girls to help prevent swimming pool sex attacks

These tattoos are designed to help prevent attacksTEMPORARY TATTOOS given to German girls to help prevent swimming pool sex attacks | World | News | Daily Express:

YOUNG girls are being given temporary tattoos in swimming pools spelling out word “NO” after a spate of sex attacks at public baths.

The small press-on designs also sport angel-like wings and are part of a new prevention campaign launched in the Bodensee district in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg.

Veronika Wascher-Goggerle, the Women's and Family representative of the district, is behind the launch and said the press-on tattoos would also help raise awareness over the growing issue of sex attacks in swimming pools.
The Bodenseekreis is famous for its bathing and boasts numerous indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
Alleged sex attacks by migrants have caused heated debate in the area over the last few months and some pools are hiring extra security - or even banning asylum seekers altogether.
Swimming pool sex assaults a big issue in GermanyNC
The temporary tattoos say no in English and German while pictured with scratch marks
However, Wascher-Goggerle does not want to associate her campaign with any problems with migrants, stating that there have always been sexual abuse problems at swimming pools, even before the start of the refugee crisis.
She said: "I think many girls are insecure. What is normal in daily interactions and what should not be allowed and needs to be reported?
“Illustrations have been made available at swimming pools and should make this clear.
"The temporary tattoos are an incentive for young swimmers to think about the issue.."

Michigan's Underfunded Pensions: A Tale of Two Counties

Michigan's Underfunded Pensions: A Tale of Two Counties [Michigan Capitol Confidential]:
"The state’s largest 100 municipalities owe more than $4.2 billion in unfunded pension benefits to their employees, and Michigan’s 83 counties add another $2.5 billion to the total.
Wayne County’s experience shows how this underfunding arose, while Oakland County shows the way out.
Most Wayne County communities run a defined benefit pension plan for their employees, and most of them are significantly underfunded.
Detroit was allowed to keep enrolling new employees in a smaller defined benefit plan after it left bankruptcy court and received a state bailout.
Foreseeing such problems, in 1994 Oakland County closed its defined benefit pensions to new hires, instead giving these workers contributions to their own retirement accounts.
The legacy pension system that serves county employees hired before that date is well-funded.
The pension systems of most cities in the county, meanwhile, are in much better shape than their counterparts in Wayne County.
At the end of 2015 fiscal year, Oakland County’s closed pension system held 98 percent of the assets it needed to pay retirees.
It has only $13 million worth of unfunded promises.
To put that in perspective, the county’s annual budget is more than $850 million.
...It’s a different story south of the border in Wayne County, however.
There, the employee pensions are only 49 percent funded.
Employees have been promised $1.66 billion in pension benefits.
But the county has just $815 million of what it should have to pay them, potentially leaving taxpayers on the hook for $845 million in unfunded liabilities..."

Fed-Up Mom Returns Pledge of Allegiance Opt-Out Form to Elementary School With a One-Sentence Message | TheBlaze.com:

"When an elementary school girl brought home the student code of conduct booklet from Leon County Schools in Tallahassee, Florida, for parents to review last week, one page in particular stuck out to her mom.

It was a Pledge of Allegiance opt-out form parents could fill out and return to the school.

“I understand my rights as a parent and I request that my child, noted above, be excused from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance,” the form read. “This request includes standing and placing his/her right hand over his/her heart.”

The mom filled out the form — in a manner of speaking — and returned it to the school "

Public university hosts blacks-only student retreat – to promote inclusion

Public university hosts blacks-only student retreat – to promote inclusion - The College Fix:
"CSU-Fresno president: ‘Create a greater sense of belonging on campus’
California State University Fresno recently held a three-day student retreat for black students that aimed to foster inclusion and help incoming African American students adjust to college life and get involved in the campus community.
The inaugural “Harambee Student Retreat,” which took place Aug.14 through Aug 17, was free to participating students, who enjoyed housing, meals, workshops and activities meant to help aid in the “successful transition of incoming African American/Black students to Fresno State,” the university’s website states.
About 40 new students plus about a dozen returning students took part, and about $16,000 was set aside in the university’s budget to host the event, although the final cost has yet to be determined, said Shirley Melikian Armbruster, associate vice president of university communications, in an email to The College Fix.
Fresno State President Joseph Castro, in an address to kick off the new school year, praised the retreat, noting “the call to better support African American students in connecting with their peers and the university was heard and put into action.”
“A first ever retreat, appropriately titled Harambee, which means ‘Let’s pull together,’ was held this week where new and continuing African-American students, along with African-American faculty, staff and alumni, could exchange ideas of how to create a greater sense of belonging on campus,” Castro continued..."

Clinton Campaign Claims Huma Abedin Didn’t Play a Formal Role at Radical Muslim Publication | TheBlaze.com

Clinton Campaign Claims Huma Abedin Didn’t Play a Formal Role at Radical Muslim Publication | TheBlaze.com:

"More from the Post:

A journalism major at George Washington University, Abedin, 40, was listed as “assistant editor” of the journal from 1996 to 2008, when her name was removed from the staff box and she went to work for Clinton at the State Department.

Her brother, who was an associate editor, and a sister, also employed as an assistant editor, are listed as staff members.
Merrill repeatedly refused to say if Abedin was paid during her tenure at the publication.

He also declined to say whether Clinton, who has made championing women’s rights a centerpiece of her campaign, was aware of her longtime aide’s position at the publication or its extremist views.

The journal pinned blame for the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States, the Post said, adding that it has published articles saying single moms, working moms and gay couples with children shouldn’t be recognized as families and that revealing dress “directly translates into unwanted results of sexual promiscuity and irresponsibility.”"

Obama, Touring Louisiana Flood Damage, Knocks Politicization of Tragedy: ‘Nobody Gives a Hoot’ | TheBlaze.com

Obama, Touring Louisiana Flood Damage, Knocks Politicization of Tragedy: ‘Nobody Gives a Hoot’ | TheBlaze.com:

"President Barack Obama toured flood-ravaged Louisiana Tuesday — and brushed off those who criticized him for not cutting his vacation short to get there sooner.

“One of the benefits of being five months short of leaving here is I don’t worry too much about politics,” Obama told reporters at a press conference in Zachary, Louisiana. “I guarantee you, nobody on this block, none of those first responders, nobody gives a hoot whether you’re a Democrat or Republican.”"

Of course, he's not worried about politics because he no longer needs their vote.  If he would have been running for re-election, you can bet his boots would have been on the ground.

"From The Times-Picayune article “Louisiana floods, but Wal-Mart, UPS keep trucks running“:
Wal-Mart trucks were among the first to deliver much needed supplies after Hurricane Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast in 2005.
As many Katrina survivors still note, Wal-Mart trucks arrived well before the Federal Emergency Management Agency did.
Over the weekend, Wal-Mart was again among the large companies in Louisiana able to keep supply lines open and operations going despite catastrophe — this time historic flooding that devastated whole communities and shut down major roadways.
Wal-Mart spokeswoman Erica Jones said the corporation’s emergency operations center in Bentonville, Ark., kicked into high gear late last week as forecast warnings of record rainfall started to roll in. Wal-Mart has about 30 locations in the affected area, including stores in the heavily flooded communities of Denham Springs and Baker..."
