8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rules against Planned Parenthood - Washington Times
8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rules against Planned Parenthood - Washington Times:
"Planned Parenthood had been on a legal winning streak, piling up decisions from judges who have ruled that states can’t stop the country’s largest abortion clinic network from receiving federal grant money.
But they suffered a major setback last week when a federal appeals court ruled that Arkansas can kick Planned Parenthood out of its network of Medicaid-approved health providers."

Conservatism Is Not A Suicide Pact - Kurt Schlichter
"The whiny wailing and rending of garments (mostly bow ties) by the True Cons over President Trump pardoning Sheriff Joe Arpaio brings to mind another president’s choice when a loyal supporter was the victim of a liberal witch hunt.
President Bush was an honorable man, but the way he allowed Scooter Libby and the Libby family to be ruined and impoverished over what everyone knew was a skeevy liberal political vendetta before issuing a partial commutation is to W’s lasting shame.
His excuse: the Rule of Law or something.
But, as anyone willing to see knows, today the Rule of Law is a unicorn and it has been for a long time.
I like the Rule of Law, and I’ve been warning for years about what happens when it goes away.
Yet we are where we are, whether we like it or not.
We’re in a land where the law is only intermittently and selectively applicable.
Allowing allies to suffer in an effort to pretend that all is well is not going to bring the Rule of Law back.
Nostalgia for the Rule of Law no excuse for tolerating an injustice to an ally.
Hell, undoing injustices is what the pardon power is for..."

Odd admission by National Review
Rich Lowry, editor of National Review and co-founder of Never Trump, made an odd admission that President Trump is accomplishing a major conservative goal.
A hint: Trump is beating up the successor to the Evil Empire.
Cannot stand the suspense?
Well, here it is:
The Media Is Trump's Evil Empire
Lowry likely thinks he is mocking President Trump by assigning President Trump an inferior enemy.
But while Stalin and the Soviet Union were evil, sided with Hitler at the start of World War II, and slaughtered 50 million of his own people over time, that Evil Empire never really posed an existential threat to the United States.
Khrushchev wisely backed off in the Cuban missile crisis.
We fought that evil because we were the only ones who could.
We were never in peril.
But the refusal of the national media -- including Lowry -- to accept the results of the election last November does imperil the nation.
Fake News about urinating hookers and the like undermine the ability of Americans to make the peaceful transition of power, which is a hallmark of our democratic republic...
From Lowry:
"The media has become for the right what the Soviet Union was during the Cold War...
Now, a policy of containment, preferably rollback, of the mainstream media occupies that central role..."
I find his blithe dismissal of Reagan benighted.
His purpose in standing up to the Soviets was not to unite "religious conservatives and libertarians," but to stand up to evil.
Likewise, President Trump is both developed philosophically and delivering his agenda on time and under budget..."

Trump Fundraiser Attendee Says Police Were Given Stand-Down Order:
"A week ago in Minneapolis, Republican donors attending a Trump fundraiser were assaulted, robbed and spat upon by a violent leftist mob as they were leaving the event.
Attendees say that even though there was a strong law enforcement presence at the convention center downtown where the fundraiser was held, they were not afforded any police protection when coming to and leaving the event -- and even more incredibly, there were no arrests.

Many people who attended the event told Fox 9 that police seemed to back down from intervening, but the Minneapolis Police Department insists there was no stand-down order.
Twin Cities News Talk TCNT morning hosts Andrew Lee and MN state Senator David Osmek took calls on Monday from attendees who also said that the police seemed to be holding back.
One male attendee claimed he was told by more than one officer that law enforcement had been ordered to "stand down" -- and that the order had "come from the top.".."

"Elon Musk, the billionaire behind such companies as electric car-maker Tesla and rocket-maker SpaceX, this week joined other experts in the field of artificial intelligence to warn against a potential “arms race” in autonomous weapons.
Musk was among nearly 100 business leaders and scientists from such countries as the U.S., Russia and China who signed an open letter this week to the United Nations “raising the alarm” on the potential for advances in artificial intelligence and robotics to lead to the adoption of autonomous weapons.
In the correspondence, the group praised the UN’s plan to create a group of governmental experts on lethal autonomous weapons systems to “work hard at finding means to prevent an arms race in these weapons, to protect civilians from their misuse, and to avoid the destabilizing effects of these technologies..."

"HOUSTON—A split between Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner over whether the metropolis should have been evacuated is raising questions about officials’ response to damaging floodwaters as a catastrophe continues to engulf the region.
Mr. Turner, a Democrat, and other local officials urged residents to stay in their homes as Hurricane Harvey, which has since downgraded to a tropical storm, approached Houston on Friday.
But at a Friday news conference, Gov. Abbott, a Republican, suggested otherwise.

Climate scientists withdraw journal claims of rising sea levels | Environment | The Guardian
"Study claimed in 2009 that sea levels would rise by up to 82cm by the end of century – but the report's author now says true estimate is still unknown
Scientists have been forced to withdraw a study on projected sea level rise due to global warming after finding mistakes that undermined the findings.
The study, published in 2009 in Nature Geoscience, one of the top journals in its field, confirmed the conclusions of the 2007 report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
It used data over the last 22,000 years to predict that sea level would rise by between 7cm and 82cm by the end of the century.
At the time, Mark Siddall, from the Earth Sciences Department at the University of Bristol, said the study "strengthens the confidence with which one may interpret the IPCC results".
The IPCC said that sea level would probably rise by 18cm-59cm by 2100, though stressed this was based on incomplete information about ice sheet melting and that the true rise could be higher.
Many scientists criticised the IPCC approach as too conservative, and several papers since have suggested that sea level could rise more.
...Announcing the formal retraction of the paper from the journal, Siddall said: "It's one of those things that happens. People make mistakes and mistakes happen in science."
He said there were two separate technical mistakes in the paper, which were pointed out by other scientists after it was published.
A formal retraction was required, rather than a correction, because the errors undermined the study's conclusion..."

Dear CNN: Before You Crap On Trump, Explain What Obama Is Doing In This Pic:
"If the anti-Confederate crusade teaches us anything, it’s that history is obligated to remember you for your worst sins, not your best deeds.

“Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules."

Congressman Barney Frank added, “It was a real betrayal by Bill Clinton of all who had been strongly supportive of him to do something this unjustified. It was contemptuous.”
Marc Rich was wanted for a list of charges going back decades.
He had traded illegally with America’s enemies including Ayatollah Khomeini’s Iran, where he bought about $200 million worth of oil while revolutionaries allied with Khomeini held 53 American hostages in 1979.
Rich made a large part of his wealth, approximately $2 billion between 1979 and 1994, selling oil to the apartheid regime in South Africa when it faced a UN embargo.
He did deals with Khadafy’s Libya, Milosevic’s Yugoslavia, Kim Il Sung’s North Korea, Communist dictatorships in Cuba and the Soviet Union itself. Little surprise that he was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List.
Facing prosecution by Rudy Giuliani in 1983, Rich fled to Switzerland and lived in exile..."
