Georgetown Law Profs Take A Knee To Protest Jeff Sessions' Appearance On Campus To Discuss Free Speech

TaxProf Blog:
"Huffington Post, Georgetown Law Faculty Take A Knee To Protest Jeff Sessions’ Campus Visit:
In what may be a first, a style of protest that started in the NFL has spread directly to ... Georgetown Law.
Faculty members at the prestigious law school took a knee Tuesday morning in dissent of a visit by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who was on campus to “give remarks about free speech.”
Professors at the school have vociferously opposed the visit by Sessions.
In an open letter published ahead of the event, signed by around a third of the law school’s faculty, professors lambasted it as “hypocritical” and “troubling.”

Westerners: Guilty of Reading the News

Westerners: Guilty of Reading the News:
  • If the public are asked whether Arabs should be profiled for security reasons, why should it be surprising if a very slight majority of the public think they should be? A large number of terrorist incidents have occurred in the Arab and Western world in recent years.
  • If, at some point, large numbers of, say, Czechs, Poles and Hungarians had started to export terrorism across the planet, a majority of the public in a country such as Britain might be relied on to call for increased security checks on people of Eastern European origin. In the meantime, the public would appear to be guilty of nothing other than reading the news.
  • Few newspaper commentaries bothered to wonder whether the people who had decapitated a soldier on the streets of London might not be responsible for the negative sentiments that followed. For Arab News, any such explanation would be an impossibility.
Image result for islam attacks uk"...What is more ridiculous still is the idea -- consistent from a range of opinion polls over recent years -- that the British people, like those across Europe and America, are in the grip of some profoundly irrational mania.
...The central conceit of a poll such as this, however, is, of course, to present the whole issue of terrorism as a misunderstanding by the general public.
The issue is not just the four Islamist attacks in the UK so far this year...
The issue is not the appearance of a Libyan suicide bomber at a pop concert in Manchester in May, or the young men of Pakistani origin who rampaged across London Bridge and into Borough Market in June, while they slit the throats of passers-by and shouted, "This is for Allah".
...The question they seem to wish to get to the root of is: Why the British people might have bigoted and unpleasant attitudes?..."

Media Ignore Mass Shooting In Tennessee Because It Doesn't Fit Their Leftist Narrative | Daily Wire
"The media, eager to bury the story of the mass shooting at a church in Tennessee on Sunday in which a Sudanese immigrant, who is black, murdered a white mother of two and wounded six other people, including the pastor, has totally ignored the incident, conveniently using the NFL/ Trump controversy as grist for its mill.
Emanuel Kidega Samson, from Sudan, first murdered Melanie Smith, 39, in the parking lot, then entered Burnette Chapel Church of Christ and started shooting.
Image result for Emanuel Kidega SamsonHe was only stopped by the heroism of an usher, Caleb Engle, 22, who was pistol-whipped in the face, but held tight until Samson accidentally shot himself.
Engle then retrieved his firearm from his car and stood guard over Samson until police arrived.
Matt Walsh, in a powerful column at The Blaze, pointed out:
"Maybe you read about this story on page 14 of the newspaper.
I’m not exaggerating, either.
The New York Times put this mass shooting on page 14...
  • The church shooting does no favors to the liberal narrative, so it must be ignored.
  • The shooter was black.
  • He’s a Sudanese immigrant.
  • He killed a white woman.
  • He was stopped by a good guy with a gun.
If the races were switched and you removed the pesky pro-Second Amendment element of the story, perhaps it may have fighting chance to compete with choreographed protests in professional sports for airtime..."

Be skeptical of Ken Burns’ ‘The Vietnam War’ - The Citizen
"...For many years I have been presenting to high school classes a 90-minute session titled “The Myths and Truths of the Vietnam War.”
One of my opening comments is, “The truth about Vietnam is bad enough without twisting it all out of shape with myths, half-truths and outright lies from the anti-war left.”
...Part of my presentation is showing them four iconic photos from Vietnam, aired publicly around the world countless times to portray America’s evil involvement in Vietnam.
I tell the students “the rest of the story” excluded by the news media about each photo, then ask, “Wouldn’t you want the whole story before you decide for yourself what to think?”

  • One of those photos is the summary execution of a Viet Cong soldier in Saigon, capital city of South Vietnam, during the battles of the Tet Offensive in 1968.

Image result for photos is the summary execution of a Viet Cong soldier in SaigonOur dishonorable enemy negotiated a cease-fire for that holiday, then on that holiday attacked in about 100 places all over the country.
Here’s what I tell students about the execution in the photo.
“Before you decide what to think, here’s what the news media never told us.
This enemy soldier had just been caught after he murdered a Saigon police officer, the officer’s wife, and the officer’s six children.
The man pulling the trigger was Nguyen Ngoc Loan, South Vietnam’s Chief of National Police.
His actions were supported by South Vietnamese law, and by the Geneva Convention since the captured killer was an un-uniformed illegal combatant.
Now, you might still be disgusted by the summary execution, but wouldn’t you want all the facts before you decide what to think?”

  • The other one-sided stories about iconic photos I use are a 9-year-old girl named Kim Phuc, running down a road after her clothes were burned off by a napalm bomb, a lady kneeling by the body of a student at Kent State University, and a helicopter on top of a building with too many evacuees trying to climb aboard.

Each one had only the half of the story told by news media during the war, the half that supported the anti-war narrative..."

The league, recently rebranded as the Legends Football League, said in a Tuesday statement that its players would not be taking a knee during the national anthem as many of their male counterparts in the NFL have done.
"The LFL recognizes everyone's First Amendment right to protest, but our nation's flag and anthem are far too sacred," the league said.

LIBERTY REVIEW

LIBERTY REVIEW:

Rose Petals

By Tammy Derouin

The flaws of the progressive agenda, the so called enlightened way of thinking, will be our undoing as a free and independent nation if we continue to disregard history and put a higher value on death and enslavement rather than life and freedom. Why do those on the Left favor policies and forms of government which embrace enslavement, death and destruction? The Declaration of Independence is a liberating document; a document which severed our ties with oppressive rule and authority. Why would we want to go backwards? What is it about oppression and death that is so appealing to the Left?

Image result for Rose Petal PathLife is a wonderful gift, yet last week the state of Oregon celebrated a new law which makes abortions free for everyone in their state, including illegal aliens. It's called the Reproductive Health Equity Act. The Left likes to wrap their twisted way of thinking into hot button packages. This appalling package focuses on the fear mongering that someone or some entity is out to shackle all females at their ovaries. How is it that we understand the importance of life and the means to which we will go to save a loved one from death, yet so many can blatantly disregard the heartbeat of an unborn child? By making abortion an on demand procedure, some sort of new age right, we become desensitized to the true reality. Death is preferred over life and false rights, granted by the government, allow the government to inch its way further into a controlling role over everyone’s life.

More and more evidence is surfacing that the Obama administration did spy on President Trump before and after the election. This is huge and it should have everyone very concerned, regardless of political beliefs. Do we want our intelligence agencies secretly spying on American citizens for the political gain of an administration? Think about that, our intelligence agencies, if used improperly, could be used as political weapons against everyone......

Dinesh D'Souza: Colin Kaepernick's big lie | Fox News
"...The Democratic Left, symbolized by Kaepernick, seeks to portray themselves in resistance to oppression. In this view, Trump represents the party of oppression (bad America) and they represent the party of liberation (good America).
Image result for democratic politicians kneeling football
Kneeling at games is intended to convey a refusal to go along with American racism and oppression.
Yet historically, this gets things upside down.
Who is the actual party of racism and oppression?
 The Democrats.
Who is the actual party that resisted oppression?
 The Republicans.
Here are a few unassailable facts to consider:
  • --While the secession debate was between the North and the South, the slavery debate was between a pro-slavery Democratic Party and an anti-slavery Republican Party.
  • --Two of the three Democrats that Lincoln identified as the champions of slavery—Stephen Douglas and James Buchanan—were Northerners. Only one, Roger Taney, was a Southerner.
  • --Even after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, the Democratic platform in 1864 sought a treaty with the Confederacy that would most likely involve a restoration of slavery.
  • --After the Civil War, the Democrats overwhelmingly opposed the Thirteenth Amendment freeing the slaves, the Fourteenth Amendment granting equal rights under law, and the Fifteenth Amendment giving blacks the right to vote.
  • --Jim Crow is entirely a legacy of the Democratic Party. Every segregation law enacted in the South was passed by a Democratic legislature, signed by a Democratic governor, and enforced by Democratic officials.
  • --After Republicans shut it down in the late nineteenth century, the Ku Klux Klan was revived in the early twentieth century by a progressive Democratic president, Woodrow Wilson, who screened a pro-KKK movie in the White House.
  • --For decades the Klan served, in the words of progressive historian Eric Foner, as “the domestic terrorist arm of the Democratic Party.” David Duke is an anomaly; virtually every KKK leader for the past 150 years has been a Democrat.
  • --As historian Ira Katznelson shows, in order to get the New Deal passed, progressive icon Franklin Delano Roosevelt made deals with racist Democrats to block anti-lynching legislation and to exclude African Americans from most New Deal programs.
  • --More Republicans than Democrats proportionately voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Fair Housing Bill of 1968. The main opposition to the civil rights movement came not from the GOP but from racist Democrats.
So are Democrats who pull down Confederate statues and protest the national anthem admitting the historical sins of their party?
Are these acts of honest public disclosure and humble contrition?..."
