House Republicans vote to release secret memo on FBI abuse of power - Washington Times:
"The House Intelligence Committee voted late Monday to release a controversial, classified memo alleging that the FBI and Justice Department abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to spy on Trump campaign associates during the 2016 presidential election cycle.
The committee’s ranking Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff, told reporters at the Capitol that committee voted along party lines to make public the so-called FISA abuse memo, provided the White House also approves its dissemination."

FBI Spent $100k to Investigate Filmmaker Obama Didn't Like:
"There is no question that conservative political commentator Dinesh D’Souza is not a fan of former President Barack Obama, as he produced two highly critical films about him and his agenda — as well as one about Hillary Clinton and the Democrat Party.
There is also little doubt that Obama is no fan of D’Souza. Now, questions have been raised as to whether the author and filmmaker was selectively targeted by the Obama administration for heavy-handed prosecution over a relatively minor campaign finance violation, according to The American Thinker.
Our readers may recall that D’Souza received a sentence of five years probation,"

Small modular nuclear reactors are a crucial technology, says report - physicsworld.com
Small modular nuclear reactors are a crucial technology, says report - physicsworld.com:
Small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) offer a way for the UK to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from electricity generation, while allowing the country to meet the expected increase in demand for electricity from electric vehicles and other uses.
...SMRs are usually considered to have electrical outputs of about 300 MW or less.
...This, says Rooney, is unlike conventional large-scale power reactors, which have become more and more expensive over the years.
In his report he argues that SMRs offer a much more cost-effective way of generating electricity.
“Each unit would require a smaller investment than large reactors and their modular nature means that they can be built in a controlled factory environment where, with increased deployment, costs can be brought down over time through improved manufacturing processes and economies of volume,” writes Rooney..."

Donald Trump: Democrats obstruct Dreamers' amnesty for politics - Washington Times:
"President Trump said this weekend that he offered a “wonderful deal” to protect illegal immigrant Dreamers and that resistance among Democrats suggests the party would rather have a political issue than a solution.
Democrats have largely rejected the outlines of Mr. Trump’s proposal, saying that while the legalization of 1.8 million Dreamers was an important step, they would not agree to his plans for a border wall or to limiting the long chain of family migration.
The president is poised to deliver his plan to Capitol Hill this week and make his case directly to the public in his State of the Union address."

Judge to rule on transgender teen who wants hormone therapy
Judge to rule on transgender teen who wants hormone therapy:
"CINCINNATI — An Ohio judge will decide next month whether to grant full custody to the grandparents of a transgender boy so he can pursue hormone therapy, which his parents oppose.
...The now-17-year-old wants to transition in gender, but prosecutors say his parents deny he is transgender and have refused services from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Instead, one of their attorneys said Friday, the parents prefer therapy to “get to the underlying causes” of the teen’s desire to transition.
...A Hamilton County assistant prosecutor who is representing Job and Family Services said the parents’ stance could lead the teen to suicide..."

Florida is the worst state in the nation in every way, new rankings say
Florida ranks dead last when it comes to rating the best states in the nation.
Michigan ranks No. 1, the very best state in the union.
Let that sink in for awhile. Michigan, the state that gave us the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent and Kid Rock (the poor man’s Ted Nugent), is 49 states better than Florida.
Thrillist’s Definitive and Final Ranking of All 50 States list ranked the states “based on everything.” Specifically, the states’ contributions to America, like inventions, food and drink, “somewhat productive famous people,” and unique physical beauty, among other things.
...Just under Michigan as the best of the best: Maine, Kentucky, Wisconsin and Louisiana."

"Give Amazon and its CEO, Jeff Bezos, a lot of credit.

When the online behemoth announced it was taking bids for its second headquarters (HQ2), it laid out some ground rules for an operation it claims will come with $5 billion in investment and 50,000 new jobs.
It wants a metro area with more than a million people, with the actual site located within 30 miles of the population center and within 45 minutes of an international airport. It wants enough space to eventually build up to 8 million square feet of office space.
All told, the online retailer received 238 applications from desperate state and local governments ready to throw tax dollars at Amazon like a half-soused salesman making it rain dollar bills on a pole dancer at a strip club. Amazon recently narrowed down to 20 finalists.

How frenzied are the bids?
- The city of Newark and the state government of New Jersey have said they'd put together a combined $7 billion in incentives to lure the company to one of the country's most famously failed cities.
- Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican who supposedly trades in fiscal responsibility, has put his taxpayers on the hook for $5 billion to woo Amazon to Montgomery County, which is adjacent to Washington, D.C.
- Chicago's Rahm Emanuel has talked about gifting Amazon employees' income taxes back to the company and
- Dallas has pledged to build a high-speed-rail station at the retailer's location (exactly where a train will go to and fro is not clear)..."

15 Times Major Media Outlets Used a Statistic about Plastic Straws Based on Research by a 9-Year-Old - Hit & Run : Reason.com:
"Yesterday, I reported that the oft-cited, debate-driving statistic that Americans use 500 million plastic straws a day was the product of a 9-year-old's guesstimations.
Despite those shaky factual foundations, the 500 million figure has quickly spread, virus-like, across the media landscape and even into our shops and schools.
Visitors to the D.C. tea house Teaism—just a short walk from Reason's D.C. office—will be confronted with the questionable fact on a small poster adorning the restaurant's single-use straw dispenser, replete with a picture of a cute sea turtle.
Meanwhile, impressionable children at the Mount Vernon Community School in nearby Alexandria, Virginia, are coming home with "Straw Wars" handouts citing the same dubious figure.
It's easy to understand how the school could have been led astray, given how ubiquitous this claim is in the media.
Please see below for a list of just a few of the news outlets that have cited this "fact"—or otherwise quoted people saying it without any critical pushback—in their reporting:..."

When He Says “No”: Denying A Woman Sex Is Rape | Thought Catalog:
"In recent times, Feminism has done great things to broaden the definition of rape.
In the beforetime, the 19 hundreds and suchlike, the common perception of what was rape was limited to that of a violent and mentally unstable man forcing himself upon a woman against her will. But now, thanks to the great work of Feminists everywhere, we all know that image is a lot more diverse and nuanced—something that in turn makes it much easier for us to put away creeps for a long time without that pesky “evidence” they’re always asking for. "(The following is the speech that I delivered this Sunday at the South Carolina Tea Party Coalition Convention in Myrtle Beach..."
"This is a civil war.
There aren’t any soldiers marching on Charleston… or Myrtle Beach.
Nobody’s getting shot in the streets.
Except in Chicago… and Baltimore, Detroit and Washington D.C.
But that’s not a civil war.
Except in Chicago… and Baltimore, Detroit and Washington D.C.
But that’s not a civil war.
It’s just what happens when Democrats run a city into the ground.
And then they dig a hole in the ground so they can bury it even deeper.
If you look deep enough into that great big Democrat hole, you might even see where Jimmy Hoffa is buried.
But it’s not guns that make a civil war.
If you look deep enough into that great big Democrat hole, you might even see where Jimmy Hoffa is buried.
But it’s not guns that make a civil war.
It’s politics.
Guns are how a civil war ends.
Politics is how it begins.
How do civil wars happen?
Two or more sides disagree on who runs the country.
Guns are how a civil war ends.
Politics is how it begins.
How do civil wars happen?
Two or more sides disagree on who runs the country.
And they can’t settle the question through elections because they don’t even agree that elections are how you decide who’s in charge.
That’s the basic issue here.
That’s the basic issue here.
Who decides who runs the country?
When you hate each other but accept the election results, you have a country.
When you stop accepting election results, you have a countdown to a civil war..."
