Leon Drolet - I was the token non-lefty at a MI Public Radio panel...:
"I was the token non-lefty at a MI Public Radio panel on mass transit weeks ago.
Several attendees among the lefty NPR audience advocated a high-speed train from Ann Arbor to Traverse City (two of Michigan's wealthiest areas).
It seems the wealthy left wants middle-class, working citizens to subsidize the elites' fun ride from advantaged, high-priced homes to vacation retreats.
...The more the left declares war on the car by pushing bike lanes, global-warming guilt, 'bus only" lanes, and urban-density, the more resentment middle class taxpayers feel.
Yes, the Dem Party also contains poor people, for whom the left claims to advocate for.
But actions speak louder than words: Detroit's QLine trolley benefits almost exclusively those in the new wealthy district at the expense of poor neighborhoods.
Middle class taxpayers are treated like a piggy bank for the egos of the elite..."

Starbucks Chairman: We Had To Re-Educate Our Employees Partly Because Of Donald Trump | Daily Wire:
"Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz suggested to CNN Tuesday that his company wouldn't be suffering through a full re-education process on diversity if Donald Trump weren't president.
According to the Hill, Schultz agreed that the "behavior and language that comes out of this administration" gives license to his own employees to be more freewheeling with their own personal biases.
Ultimately, it seems, that's what Schultz believes — at least partly — led to one of his Starbucks managers calling the police on two black men who were waiting for their party to gather for a meeting.
“On a personal level, [Trump's rhetoric] probably has given license to people to feel as if they can emulate and copy the kind of behavior and language that comes out of this administration,” Schultz said."...

Just how much involuntarily bumped passengers are entitled to depends on how quickly the airline can get the traveler to his or her destination.
- If the new flight arrives within an hour of the original flight's scheduled arrival time, airlines aren't required to pay anything.
- If the arrival time is between one and two hours later, passengers are entitled to 200 percent of the one-way fare, up to $675.
- If the new flight gets in more than two hours later for a domestic flight or more than four hours if the trip is international, passengers are entitled to 400 percent of the one-way fare, with maximum compensation set at $1,350.
- The airline must also refund fees for a la carte services like seat selection or a checked bag if travelers do not receive those services on the new flight.

"ProPublica, the pro-Obama leftwing investigative-reporting website funded in part by George Soros' buddies, seems to have slipped up.
One of their reporters, a real good one named Marshall Allen, has written a bang-up, worth-reading-every-word, satisfying expose about why health insurance costs are so high and why so many patients get ugly surprises when it's time to pay the bill.
And buried within, in what should have been the lede, is not an indictment of the insurance industry, but of the perverse incentives embedded within Obamacare - that are driving insurance costs through the roof...

Read all!The Affordable Care Act kept profit margins in check by requiring companies to use at least 80 percent of the premiums for medical care. That's good in theory, but it actually contributes to rising health care costs. If the insurance company has accurately built high costs into the premium, it can make more money. Here's how: Let's say administrative expenses eat up about 17 percent of each premium dollar and around 3 percent is profit. Making a 3 percent profit is better if the company spends more..."

Tragic Comedies
By Tammy Derouin
My cable subscription covers a
couple hundred channels so this past week I decided to step beyond
the few networks I typically watch. I was hopeful that I would find
something new and appealing in the entertainment world. I was
hopeful. I was so hopeful.
Comedy
is usually my first choice. After I eliminated networks which
showcased tragic comedies such as the main stream media and their
laughable news networks, I moved on hoping to find something along
the lines of more traditional comedy. I knew the so called late night
comedy shows wouldn't provide anything entertaining. They've become
left-wing hired jokers, puppets on strings. When the comedy search
failed, I looked for a drama. Well, that search failed too. I was
unable to find anything worth watching on 200 plus channels.
I
found a lot of shows I could label as new, odd and different but
little which seemed appealing. I found men parading around as women
in some sort of competition. It was very disturbing. I do not
enjoying watching what is considered reality TV because in many cases
it encourages hostility and highlights the dark side of emotions.
There's always so much yelling and screaming on these shows. If that
kind of behavior is your true reality, it's time to make some
changes.
Bad
behavior has become acceptable.......

TORONTO — Taking multivitamins or other commonly consumed vitamin and mineral supplements won’t actually provide you any health benefits, but they won’t harm you either, a new study finds.
Researchers from the University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital conducted a review of 179 studies on popular vitamin supplements that were published between January 2012 and October 2017.
...The research team concluded that the most commonly consumed supplements — multivitamins, vitamin D, calcium, and vitamin C — had no effect on a person’s risk of suffering a heart attack stroke, heart disease, or early death.
“We were surprised to find so few positive effects of the most common supplements that people consume,” notes Dr. David Jenkins, the study’s lead author, in a statement.
“Our review found that if you want to use multivitamins, vitamin D, calcium or vitamin C, it does no harm – but there is no apparent advantage either.”

London cyclists too white, male and middle class, says capital's cycling chief in vow to tackle diversity 'problem' | The Independent:
"Too few women and people from ethnic minority groups cycle in London and more must be done to promote diversity among a largely white, male and middle class biking community, the city’s walking and cycling commissioner has said.
Grand schemes, such as the Cycle Superhighway network of partially-segregated routes linking the suburbs with the centre, are too often perceived as simply a way of getting “middle-aged men cycling faster around the city”, Will Norman acknowledged.
He said he was considering setting diversity targets for London’s cycling population to ensure progress was achieved."...

- Several 2014 photos of detained immigrant children resurfaced on Twitter over the weekend and went viral.
- Former Obama administration officials tried to explain the context behind the photos, which appeared to show migrant kids locked up in cages.
- The former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau had shared the images on Twitter, mistakenly believing they were taken during Donald Trump's presidency.
- The former officials doubled down on their criticisms of Trump's immigration policies, and said the 2014 photos showed unaccompanied children the government had been attempting to place with family members.
Several former Obama administration officials took to social media and news outlets on Tuesday to explain a gallery of years-old photos that showed immigrant children sleeping in shoddy conditions at a government-run holding facility in Arizona.
The images, which were first published by the Associated Press in 2014, resurfaced over the weekend for reasons that remain unclear, and quickly prompted viral outrage on Twitter.
One particularly disturbing image showed two children sleeping on mattresses on the floor inside what appeared to be a cage.
A number of prominent liberals — and even a former Obama administration official — shared the photos in outrage, mistakenly believing they depicted the Trump administration's treatment of immigrant children who were forcibly separated from their parents.
Jon Favreau, who worked as a speechwriter for former President Barack Obama, tweeted, "This is happening right now, and the only debate that matters is how we force our government to get these kids back to their families as fast as humanly possible."
