Actress and New York Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon called U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a "terrorist organization" on Thursday.
Nixon also called for the law enforcement agency's abolition.
"ICE has strayed so far from its mission. It's supposed to be here to keep Americans safe but what it's turned into is frankly a terrorist organization of its own, that is terrorizing people who are coming to this country," Nixon said to NY1.

"Following several years of quiet debate, a division of the American Library Association has announced that it will be changing the name of its children book award.

The board of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) made the unanimous decision to change the name on Saturday, at a meeting in New Orleans. The name of the prize was changed from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal to the Children’s Literature Legacy Award.

The association said Wilder “includes expressions of stereotypical attitudes inconsistent with ALSC’s core values”.

The first award was given to Wilder in 1954. The ALSC said Wilder’s work continued to be published and read but her “legacy is complex” and “not universally embraced”.

Wilder was born in 1867 and died in 1957. She is best known for her eight Little House on the Prairie novels, about pioneer life in the American West, which were published between 1932 and 1943.

Wilder is not the first to be removed from an award due to the author's racism; the World Fantasy Award used to feature a bust of H P Lovecraft before it was changed in 2015. It was widely known that Lovecraft was racist, but the prize was only changed four years after the award was won by Nigerian-American author Nnedi Okorafor, who only learned of Lovecraft's racism as a result of her win, and the year after Somali-American Sofia Samatar won.

Scholars have been discussing the racism in Laura Ingalls Wilder's books for decades, but it was only in the last few years that the issue started getting widespread attention for the racist attitudes toward Native Americans as well as the racist cultural references toward African Americans.

It was only a matter of time before her name was removed from the award, and frankly, I am surprised those books are still being used in schools - they amount to cultural propaganda and should not be taught to impressionable minds. They present an idealized version of a period of American history that glosses over the many darker aspects of that period, so much so that the racism is only the first problem with the books..."

"Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi had to be escorted out of a Tampa theater screening of the Mister Rogers documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" by police Friday night due to screaming protesters who hounded her throughout the building.

Enraged at Bondi over her recent actions on health care policy and her stance on immigration, the activists created what the Fla. AG's spokesman called a "volatile scene," getting into Bondi's face, blocking her exit, and spitting on her.

Timothy Heberlein of Organize Florida took the video of Bondi leaving the theater flanked by law enforcement, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

"What would Mister Rogers think about you and your legacy in Florida? Taking away health insurance from people with pre-existing conditions, Pam Bondi!" Maria José Chapa, a labor organizer, screeches at Bondi in the video. "Shame on you!

"You're a horrible person!" another protester bellows.

LANSING – Whether Michigan residents will benefit from the latest generation of internet and cell phone delivery platforms is, at least in part, in the hands of the state House of Representatives. 
That is the view of those who support two Senate-passed bills dealing with the issue that are now pending in the House.

The technology is called 5G, and it delivers video, data and voice signals through networks of hundreds or thousands of small transmitters with limited range, often hung on electric, light or telephone poles. 

The small transmitters need to be installed in large numbers, which makes the technology vulnerable to excessive permit, zoning and fee mandates imposed by local governments.

Earlier this year, the Michigan Senate passed a pair of bills that would establish a single state regulatory regime and limit how much local governments can charge or restrict these networks.

...Rounding out the panel was Theodore Bolema, an adjunct scholar with the Mackinac Center and senior fellow with The Free State Foundation. According to Bolema, overcoming the obstacles to rolling out 5G service requires the state legislature to standardize local fee and permit processes, essentially preempting local regulations that unreasonably hold up the installation of many small-cell transmitters.

The first four generations of internet service often involved federal telecommunications law and matters related to the U.S. Constitution’s interstate commerce clause. 

But according to Skorup, the dispersed nature of fifth generation networks – 5G – makes them more dependent on favorable state and local policies...

Sen. Maxine Waters (D-CA) called for attacks against members of President Donald Trump's administration over the weekend, screaming to a group of supporters that they should not be welcomed anywhere in society.

Waters' rage-filled rant reportedly happened "during a toy drive outside the Wilshire Federal Building on Saturday," according to The American Mirror.

Waters, who falsely claimed that Trump was "sacrificing our children," appeared intent on inciting violence, saying, "If you think we’re rallying now, you ain’t seen nothing yet."

"Already, you have members of your Cabinet that are being booed out of restaurants...who have protesters taking up at their house, who say, ‘No peace, no sleep! No peace, no sleep!'” Waters continued.

"God is on our side!" Waters declared.

Waters then called for attacks on individual members of the Trump administration, saying: "Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up and if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere."
