More Millennials Are Dying 'Deaths of Despair,' Report Says | Time
"There’s been a marked uptick in so-called deaths of despair—those involving drugs, alcohol or suicide—among millennials over the last decade, according to a new report released by public-health groups Trust for America’s Health and Well Being Trust.
Drug, alcohol and suicide deaths have risen in nearly every age group over the last decade, but the increase has been especially pronounced for younger Americans.
Between 2007 and 2017, drug-related deaths increased by 108% among adults ages 18 to 34, while alcohol-related deaths increased by 69% and suicides increased by 35%, according to the report, which drew on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.
All together, about 36,000 millennials died “deaths of despair” in 2017, with fatal drug overdoses being the biggest driver..."

The Poorest 20% of Americans Are Richer on Average Than Most European Nations - Foundation for Economic Education
"A groundbreaking study by Just Facts has discovered that after accounting for all income, charity, and non-cash welfare benefits like subsidized housing and food stamps, the poorest 20 percent of Americans consume more goods and services than the national averages for all people in most affluent countries.
This includes the majority of countries in the prestigious Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), including its European members.
In other words, if the US “poor” were a nation, it would be one of the world’s richest..."

Bernie Sanders is coming for your newspaper

Bernie Sanders is coming for your newspaper
"In a little noted op-ed published in Columbia Journalism Review, socialist Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders outlined his "plan" for journalism, headlined: "Op-Ed: Bernie Sanders on his plan for journalism."
...Then he gets into something to send some shivers:
Real journalism is different from the gossip, punditry, and clickbait that dominates today's news. Real journalism, in the words of Joseph Pulitzer, is the painstaking reporting that will "fight for progress and reform, never tolerate injustice or corruption, [and] always fight demagogues."
Hear that?
Bernie wants to define for journalists and their viewers, listeners, and readers what "real" journalism is, picking and choosing the right sort of material for all of us, seeking to reward what he likes and punish what he doesn't like.
In so doing, he's choosing what's better for us, because only Bernie knows best.
That tabloid stuff is bad for your health, see, so no Katy Perry stories for you.
It's central planning in spades.
Mao; the Sandinistas; Kim Jong-il; and Sanders's early role models, the Soviets, certainly would understand.
It then gets worse....
We must also explore new ways to empower media organizations to collectively bargain with these tech monopolies, and we should consider taxing targeted ads and using the revenue to fund nonprofit civic-minded media...

"Kansas University’s Sexuality & Gender Diversity Faculty and Staff Council is livid with the expansion of Chick-fil-A on campus and calling for Jayhawks to boycott the eatery.
The popular fast-food chain is in the crosshairs of yet another college group due in large part to Dan Cathy, the company’s president and CEO, supporting the traditional definition of marriage in 2012.
See the source image...“Moving Chick-fil-A to the Union and granting it a role at the start of all home football games violates the feelings of safety and inclusion that so many of us have striven to create, foster, and protect on campus, and sends a message that the Union, KU Athletics, and the administration at large are more concerned about money and corporate sponsorship than the physical, emotional, and mental well being of marginalized and LGBTQ people,” he continued..."

Planned Parenthood: Teach your preschoolers 'their genitals don’t determine their gender' | Fox News

Planned Parenthood: Teach your preschoolers 'their genitals don’t determine their gender' | Fox News
"Apparently children as young as 4 are not too young to be told that gender and sex are different and that their genitals don't indicate their gender, according to new Planned Parenthood guidelines for parents.
On a page of its website titled “How do I talk with my preschooler about their body?” the abortion provider says if a child inquires why boys and girls have different bodies, a parent should introduce the concept of transgender identity.
“While the most simple answer is that girls have vulvas and boys have penises/testicles, that answer isn’t true for every boy and girl,” the organization says.
“Boy, girl, man and woman are words that describe gender identity, and some people with the gender identities ‘boy’ or ‘man’ have vulvas, and some with the gender identity ‘girl’ or ‘woman’ have penises/testicles. Your genitals don’t make you a boy or a girl.”
Planned Parenthood thinks parents should point out to their child that genitals do not definitively establish gender, and that their children can make that decision based on your values and how you plan to talk with your kid about gender as they grow up.

Still against the wall?-----Fentanyl is remaking the Mexican drug trade and taking American lives - Los Angeles Times

U.S. deaths from fenthanyl and other synthetic opiodsFentanyl is remaking the Mexican drug trade and taking American lives - Los Angeles Times
"...Several months earlier, a friend had given Parker a baby-blue pill that was stamped on one side with the letter M.
It resembled a well-known brand of oxycodone, the prescription painkiller that sparked the American opioid epidemic.
But the pill was actually a far more powerful and more addictive opioid: fentanyl.
Within weeks, Parker was crushing and freebasing up to eight pills a day.
Developed decades ago as a painkiller of last resort, fentanyl has surpassed heroin and prescription pills to become the leading driver of the opioid crisis and is now the top cause of U.S. overdose deaths.
...Fentanyl started appearing on U.S. streets in significant quantities in 2013, most of it produced in China and shipped in the mail..."

Jordan has been an open critic of Comey, saying in 2018 that Comey thinks “the rules don’t apply to him.” Comey was fired as FBI director May 9, 2017, and allegedly gave four memos to personal attorneys afterward.
