New York is running out of fuel, power — just as Cuomo planned

See the source imageNew York is running out of fuel, power — just as Cuomo planned
"Gov. Andrew Cuomo doubled down last week on his blame-the-messenger approach to New York’s growing shortage of natural-gas supplies by ordering the Department of Public Service to “broaden its investigation” of National Grid and threatening to “find another franchisee.”
Anything, rather than admit that his own policies are at fault.
The utility has stopped taking new gas customers in parts of Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens where it can’t handle the new demand — because Team Cuomo vetoed the proposed Williams pipeline to bring in supplies from New Jersey.
(Jersey is also blocking the pipeline, since Gov. Phil Murphy is appeasing the same green extremists.)
National Grid gave months of warning that it would need to impose the moratorium if fresh supplies weren’t ensured.
Con Ed did the same in advance of its recent new-biz moratorium in most of Westchester, which was also prompted in good part by the nixing of new pipelines.
This is the point of the years long green war on pipelines: You can’t burn gas or oil you can’t get..."

"...To make matters worse, the UK government has failed to recommend or monitor dietary levels of this nutrient — choline — found predominantly in animal foods, says Dr. Emma Derbyshire, of Nutritional Insight, a consultancy specializing in nutrition and biomedical science.
...Choline is critical to brain health, particularly during fetal development.
...The primary sources of dietary choline are found in beef, eggs, dairy products, fish, and chicken, with much lower levels found in nuts, beans, and cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli..."

  • Why do right-wing men hate Greta Thunberg and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez so much? Researchers have some troubling answers to that question.

"...the idea that white men would lead the attacks on Greta Thunberg is consistent with a growing body of research linking gender reactionaries to climate-denialism—some of the research coming from Thunberg’s own country.
Researchers at Sweden’s Chalmers University of Technology, which recently launched the world’s first academic research center to study climate denialism, have for years been examining a link between climate deniers and the anti-feminist far-right.

A federal appeals court has revived a legal challenge to the Minnesota Human Rights Act (MHRA), ruling for the first time that religious business owners can invoke free speech rights when refusing to service a same-sex wedding.
The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with Carl and Angel Larsen, a Christian couple who operate a video production company called Telescope Media Group. The Larsens want to expand their business to include weddings, but state officials say the MHRA requires the Larsens to accommodate both same-sex and opposite sex partners.

Leftists Attack 'Dude Walls' With Portraits of Distinguished Men
"If the left is so loving, tolerant and inclusive, why is it so driven by unquenchable bitterness?
...The insanity emanating from leftists today is overwhelming.
...Let me give you a typical example.
NPR reported that MSNBC's Rachel Maddow was at Rockefeller University a few years ago to present a prize to a prominent female scientist. Upon entering the auditorium, someone heard her say, "What is up with the dude wall?"
One side wall was covered with portraits of award-winning scientists from the university, and Maddow was distressed that they were all men.
Maddow was not alone.
"One hundred percent of them are men," said Leslie Vosshall, a neurobiologist with the university.
"It's probably 30 headshots of 30 men. So it's imposing."
Her word choice is instructive.
Vosshall explained that Maddow's comment made her realize that for years, she had been uneasy about seeing rooms and hallways at scientific institutions adorned with portraits of white men..."

More Millennials Are Dying 'Deaths of Despair,' Report Says | Time
"There’s been a marked uptick in so-called deaths of despair—those involving drugs, alcohol or suicide—among millennials over the last decade, according to a new report released by public-health groups Trust for America’s Health and Well Being Trust.
Drug, alcohol and suicide deaths have risen in nearly every age group over the last decade, but the increase has been especially pronounced for younger Americans.

Bernie Sanders is coming for your newspaper

Bernie Sanders is coming for your newspaper
"In a little noted op-ed published in Columbia Journalism Review, socialist Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders outlined his "plan" for journalism, headlined: "Op-Ed: Bernie Sanders on his plan for journalism."
...Then he gets into something to send some shivers:
Real journalism is different from the gossip, punditry, and clickbait that dominates today's news. Real journalism, in the words of Joseph Pulitzer, is the painstaking reporting that will "fight for progress and reform, never tolerate injustice or corruption, [and] always fight demagogues."
Hear that?
Bernie wants to define for journalists and their viewers, listeners, and readers what "real" journalism is, picking and choosing the right sort of material for all of us, seeking to reward what he likes and punish what he doesn't like.
In so doing, he's choosing what's better for us, because only Bernie knows best.
That tabloid stuff is bad for your health, see, so no Katy Perry stories for you.
It's central planning in spades.
Mao; the Sandinistas; Kim Jong-il; and Sanders's early role models, the Soviets, certainly would understand.
It then gets worse....
We must also explore new ways to empower media organizations to collectively bargain with these tech monopolies, and we should consider taxing targeted ads and using the revenue to fund nonprofit civic-minded media...
