...With regards to the possibility of professors’ course material being exposed by students, Jeffrey A. Sachs, a lecturer at Acadia University, in Canada, tweeted, “Simply put, faculty are alarmed because they are paying attention.”...

The vast majority of academics are centrist liberals. Those of you who fall into this category might think you are safe. But nobody cares what you actually think, or your actual political views. You are bait to make a point. We're all in this together.
“If you are recording a lecture on anything controversial, be prepared for right wing sites to ask students to share it,” said Texas Christian University associate professor Emily Farris, reported Breitbart News on Monday..."

Internal Emails Show How Chaos at the CDC Slowed the Early Response to Coronavirus — ProPublica

Internal Emails Show How Chaos at the CDC Slowed the Early Response to Coronavirus — ProPublica:
  • The CDC fumbled its communication with public health officials and underestimated the threat of the coronavirus even as it gained a foothold in the United States, according to hundreds of pages of documents ProPublica obtained.

Image result for deep stateOn Feb. 13, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sent out an email with what the author described as an “URGENT” call for help.
The agency was struggling with one of its most important duties: keeping track of Americans suspected of having the novel coronavirus. It had “an ongoing issue” with organizing — and sometimes flat-out losing — forms sent by local agencies about people thought to be infected. The email listed job postings for people who could track or retrieve this paperwork.
“Help needed urgently,” the CDC wrote..."

"A recent study by the University of Leeds in the U.K. says rich people are most to blame for human-induced climate change.
As reported by the BBC, the wealthiest 10% of people in the 86 countries surveyed consume 20 times more fossil fuel energy than the poorest 10%.
The largest disparity is in the transportation sector, where the top 10% consume 187 times more fossil fuel energy than the bottom 10%.

“The U.S. has a Global Health Security Index score that was 83.5 out of a possible 100 — the highest ranking in the analysis.
Britain placed second with a score of 77.9, Netherlands third at 75.6., Australia fourth at 75.5 and Canada fifth at 75.3.”

"I think it’s also worth pointing out that we’re not very good at preparing for things that happen every hundred years.
The last comparable event was in 1918.
So we pay people to prepare, but it’s like an army that hasn’t fought a war in a while — they go through the motions, but then have to learn on the job when something actually happens.
I’ve been very critical of the CDC and the FDA for getting in the way, but nobody has a fire brigade ready to go for something that happens less than once in a lifetime.--Posted by

As this deadly virus emerged from Eastern China and began to spread inexorably across the globe, clearly headed here, leaders in New York not only failed to shield their citizens from it. They took affirmative and aggressive steps to increase the risk to the population. Why would they do that? Because they were far more worried about being called racist than protecting human lives. That’s not an overstatement.

Who can argue against this common sense?
