Caelan Lavender is a a junior offensive lineman at Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach, FL. Lavender’s father died unexpectedly last year. Prior to his death, he had been a police officer for 29 years. For 11 games last year, Caelan carried the Thin Blue Line flag to honor his father as the team came onto the field before a game.
This week, Caelan learned he would no longer be allowed to carry the flag.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced Wednesday that he planned to sign an executive order that would have the effect of banning the sale of all passenger cars that run on internal combustion by 2035, while banning the sale of light and heavy-duty vehicles that run on gasoline by 2045.
According to a statement on the governor's website, Newsom believes that this order will "move the state further away from its reliance on climate change-causing fossil fuels while retaining and creating jobs and spurring economic growth."

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd on Monday held up photos contrasting a peaceful protest with a violent riot at a news conference announcing new anti-riot legislation. "I can tell you folks so that there's no misunderstanding today," Sheriff Judd said as he held the photos. "This is a peaceful protest. This is a riot. We can tell the difference. The governor can tell the difference. Our law enforcement officers can tell the difference."

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) said it's "awful" that Judge Amy Coney Barrett's religion is being attacked as rumors circulate that she's the front-runner to be President Donald Trump's nominee to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court.
"In a September 17th article by Sarah Rahal of the Detroit News, Sarah used statistics to paint the COVID-19 response record of Governor Noem in a negative light.
Specifically, she stated the following:
“South Dakota has 2,615 active cases and 193 deaths from COVID-19. The state has had a total of 17,686 cases from 171,523 people tested in a population of 880,000, meaning about of 2% of the state’s residents have gotten the virus. In comparison, Michigan has nearly 10 million people in the state, has conducted 3.5 million tests and recorded 114,692 cases and 6,631 deaths, meaning about 1.1% of residents got the virus.”
The data she presented appears to be consistent with the best data available on the topic, however, her focus upon the number ofcases would give readers the false impression that Governor Noem’s policies were almost twice as harmful as the policies adopted by Governor Whitmer in Michigan.
An alternative way of presenting the same information would be:
“South Dakota has had a total of 193 deaths in a population of 880,000 from COVID-19, meaning about 0.02% of the state’s residents have died from the virus. In comparison, Michigan has nearly 10 million people in the state, has had 6,631 deaths from COVI-19, meaning about 0.06% of residents have died from the virus.”
