Why False Positives Merit Concern, Too - The New York Times

Why False Positives Merit Concern, Too - The New York Times
"...False positives, which incorrectly identify a healthy person as infected by the virus, can have serious consequences as well, especially in places where the virus is scarce.
...Some rapid tests, which forgo sophisticated laboratory equipment and can deliver results in under an hour, have been criticized for returning high numbers of false positives, especially when used to screen people without symptoms.
Even laboratory tests that rely on a very reliable technique called polymerase chain reaction, or P.C.R., have been known to return the occasional false positive...Read all.

Californians Face Year’s Biggest Power Shutoffs on Fire Risk
"(Bloomberg) -- Californians are facing the largest mass blackout so far this year as the state’s biggest utility, PG&E Corp., prepares power shutoffs to prevent live wires from falling into dry brush and igniting wildfires with ferocious winds expected to sweep across the region.
PG&E is planning to cut power to 386,000 homes and businesses -- an estimated 1.2 million people -- across Northern California starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, company officials said at a press briefing late Saturday...Read all.

No media outlet is reporting the truly important data from the C-19 pandemic.

Facebook--Michael Smith
"No media outlet is reporting the truly important data from the C-19 pandemic.
The media is focused on cases rather than the deaths compared to the number of cases.
I took the data directly from the CDC website and plotted the 7-day death averages against the 7-day case averages and an interesting picture developed, especially when I told Excel to plot trend lines based on the data.
The death rate is falling even though the case rate is increasing.
That's not the picture the Biden campaign is painting.
Somebody at the White House needs to learn to use a spreadsheet.
For comparison, the CDC reported 600,000 cancer deaths in 2018 for an average of 1,644 per day.
Since the fist death in the US in February of this year, the average deaths per day for C-19 is 938 (and is steadily falling).
Note: For cases, use the left axis, for deaths, use the right axis. Scale is too different to use a single axis."

Coyotes Comment Confuses Trump Haters - Victory Girls Blog

Coyotes Comment Confuses Trump Haters - Victory Girls Blog

"During Thursday night’s Presidential debate, President Trump claimed — correctly — that coyotes have taken unaccompanied children across the border.

“Coyotes,” of course, is a common term for people who illegally smuggle humans into the U.S. Everyone knows that, right?

Apparently not. In fact, progressive social media blew up after he made that comment, because everything Trump says is stupid or something.

Moderator Kristen Welker had asked him about 545 illegal children whose parents can’t be found.

Here is Trump’s full response:

“These children are brought here by coyotes and lots of bad people, cartels, and they used to use them to get into our country.”

...It’s true that the vast majority of illegal children come with family members. However, some smugglers, aka “coyotes,” do smuggle children, often with heartbreaking results.

...But some liberal Twitter users thought that the President was being racist or just ignorant, since Trump Derangement Syndrome controls their every thought.

...So the “level of xenophobia is sickening?” The level of Hogg’s ignorance is staggering.

One Twitter user attempted to educate him. I’m not sure it would’ve made a difference with Hogg, however. The Trump Derangement is strong with that one.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. “Coyotes” are human smugglers; in Central America they call them “Polleros.” Human trafficking is controlled by violent cartels; many immigrants are raped, beaten, or even left behind to die.”

...Consider other blue check liberals, the supposed intelligentsia of social media, who believe Trump thinks that actual animals drag children across the border.

Here, for your perusal and enjoyment, are some doozies:

“Ok so maybe I’m not so smart but can someone tell me how coyotes bring over children?”

She’s absolutely correct: she’s not so smart.

And this one:

“I’ve seen a lot of coyotes here in SoCal but I’ve never seen one carrying a kid.”

Oh, honey — I’ve seen them here in Kansas City, too, but they don’t carry off children. They might nab the occasional pet dog or cat, though...Read all.

CNN's Fact Checker Admits Trump 'Correct' On Biden's Anti-Fracking Stance | Climate Dispatch

CNN's Fact Checker Admits Trump 'Correct' On Biden's Anti-Fracking Stance | Climate Dispatch

"For CNN’s liberal fact-checker Daniel Dale to admit that President Donald Trump was “correct” about Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s fracking stance must have been a hard pill to swallow for the network.

During CNN’s post-debate analysis, Anderson Cooper 360° anchor Anderson Cooper pointed out that Trump went after “Biden on the issue of fracking to extract oil and gas.”

Cooper then showed a clip of the Trump-Biden exchange on fracking, where Biden claimed that he never said ‘I oppose fracking.’

Cooper then appeared to try to lead Dale into giving the answer he wanted by saying, “Daniel, he [Biden] then, later on, added that he had called for an end to fracking on federal land.”

Dale then dropped a bomb on CNN talking heads: “In this case, Trump is correct. Biden did make anti-fracking comments during the Democratic primary in 2019 and 2020. Trump was not lying.” [Emphasis added.]

Sad question.
