Apartment owner pays fine for allegedly failing to offer translation | The Sacramento Bee
"The management company of a south Sacramento apartment complex is paying a federal settlement after being accused of retaliating against an employee who was advocating for language translation services for residents.
An employee of the apartment complex filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which provides funding to the complex, a HUD news release said.
The complaint alleged the complex’s owners and managers failed to provide language translation services to Vietnamese residents and retaliated against an employee who advocated for such services.
That would have been a violation of the federal Fair Housing Act and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which both prohibit discrimination based on national origin.
According to the settlement agreement, FPI Management will pay $10,000 to the employee who filed the complaint, and $20,075 to residents of the property, with each of the 73 households receiving $275, the release said.
FPI will also provide free oral and written translation to those who need it in the future...Read all.

China lab-leak theory into origins of virus 'worth a second look'

"The coronavirus lab leak theory is now gaining far more international attention, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.
"The lab leak theory is now getting far more attention worldwide," Mr Kenny said.
Mr Kenny iterated that Sharri Markson's reporting on the issue did not say the virus came from the lab but only that it was a scenario that made evidential sense; warranting a full investigation.
Mr Kenny also said foreign papers like the Wall Street Journal have said the Wuhan Institute "refused" to assist with enquiries by not sharing their raw data.
"The Wall Street Journal went on to say the Wuhan Institute has refused to share raw data, safety logs and lab records on its coronavirus work with bats, which many consider the most likely source of the virus and this pandemic," he said.
Mr Kenny also spoke with the United States Studies Centre's Dr John Lee who said the "circumstantial" evidence and "behaviour" of the CCP surrounding the virus origins makes the lab-leak theory seem "more credible".
"The lab theory is starting to look a lot more credible than most people assumed it was a few months ago," he said."

"...Here’s another statistic — federal, and state unemployment benefits total $650 a week
However, in the leisure and hospitality sector, probably the worst hit area during the pandemic, average pay is $477.
  • So you get $650 staying home, and $477 going to work.
That tells me that overly generous federal policies are discouraging work and encouraging staying home. That is not good, either.
Which brings me back to the opening point.

China, having weakened the West with COVID, threatens Australia - American Thinker:
"For anyone doubting whether China has Taiwan in its sights, a warning that the Global Times, a Chinese communist party media outlet, issued to Australia should set those doubts to rest.
Having concluded that Joe Biden is not a threat, China is busy letting other regional powers know that they had better not cross China.
In response to Australia’s participation in joint military exercises in the East China Sea, China’s propaganda outlet threatened it with intermediate-range ballistic missiles.
