"Relative sea level rise at tide gauge Galveston Pier 21, Texas, is the combination of absolute sea level rise and land subsidence. We estimate subsidence rates of 3.53 mm/a during 1909–1937, 6.08 mm/a during 1937–1983, and 3.51 mm/a since 1983.
Subsidence attributed to aquifer-system compaction accompanying groundwater extraction contributed as much as 85% of the 0.7 m relative sea level rise since 1909,

Heh!-----Having Scoffed at Trump’s Warnings, Germany Now Fears Complete Russian Gas Cut-Off

Having Scoffed at Trump’s Warnings, Germany Now Fears Complete Russian Gas Cut-Off
  • “Berlin triggered the second stage of its national gas emergency plan.”

"Having mocked and rejected President Donald Trump’s warning about the country’s dependence on Russian energy, the German government now fears that Russia may soon cut off their gas supply.

As war rages in Ukraine, Russia has drastically reduced its energy supply to Germany and other western European countries, forcing Berlin to declared emergency measures to save and ration existing gas supplies..."

Biden's Bummer Summer: Firework Prices Explode

The price of fireworks has skyrocketed across the country under President Joe Biden, meaning party-goers will be getting less of an explosion than they probably expect for the price this Fourth of July weekend.

State health agency postpones meeting because ‘urgency’ is ‘white supremacy’

State health agency postpones meeting because ‘urgency’ is ‘white supremacy’
"...OHA Regional Health Equity Coalition Program Manager Danielle Droppers delayed a meeting between agency officials and community members on the grounds that being prompt is a “white supremacist value.”
  • “We recognize that urgency is a white supremacy value that can get in the way of more intentional and thoughtful work, and we want to attend to this dynamic,”
Droppers wrote in an email.
“Therefore, we will reach out at a later date to reschedule.”
A link at the end of Droppers’ message goes to a website called “White Supremacy Culture,” in this instance specifically about being on time.
  • “A constant sense of urgency,” the page reads, “makes it difficult to take time to be inclusive, encourage democratic and/or thoughtful decision-making, [and] to think and act long-term.”..."

Allies of Karine Jean-Pierre say Biden admin set her up for failure by having a white man standing by for help - TheBlaze

Allies of the White House press secretary are blaming the Biden administration for her failures because they have a white man, John Kirby, standing by, according to a report in Politico. The report outlined the struggles of Jean-Pierre, who assumed the duties of the office from Jen Psaki in May and become the first openly LGBTQ and black person to work as White House press secretary.

The hate we must endlessly prove to be the lie that it is.

When we gonna fire those "predictors"?-----Hurricanes Not Increasing, Despite Warming

Hurricanes Not Increasing, Despite Warming

"Although the 2022 hurricane season has gotten off to slow start, the forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center say the 2022 season will be more active than the long-term average.
Whether this proves to be true only time will tell, but research is increasingly making clear that the modest warming of the planet has not caused hurricanes to grow more frequent or severe.
  • Even the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change acknowledges it has detected no trend of increasing frequency or severity of tropical cyclones and has no evidence human greenhouse gas emissions are contributing to any trend..."

ICYMI: RACISM, STRAIGHT UP

Instapundit--ICYMI: RACISM, STRAIGHT UP:

What the reactions to Clarence Thomas post-Roe reveal about white liberals: Soon after the court handed down its decision, some pro-choice advocates began hurling outrageous and overtly racist remarks at the justice.

Plus: “Thomas noted in a recent interview that people regularly assume he has difficulties around other Black people by virtue of his politics. ‘It’s just the opposite,’ he declared. ‘The only people with whom I’ve had difficulties are white, liberal elites who consider themselves the anointed and us the benighted … I have never had issues with members of my race.'”

Can Americans Remember the Virtue of Independence (and the Corrosiveness of Dependence)? - Intellectual Takeout
"If this 4th of July you reflect on the future of liberty, you will not be alone.
Many Americans believe freedom is in decline
...Breggin imagines a world made up of two different people with very different and conflicting ideas about themselves and their basic rights.”
To one type of person Breggin gives the name Dependence and to the other, Independence.
Describing Dependence, he writes,
  • “Dependence doesn’t think he can earn enough money to pay for what he needs and wants, such as food, shelter, medical care, education, and retirement. He wants the government to provide these things for him.” Dependence thinks life is unfair, and he wants government to “make up for this unfairness.” Dependence thinks he has a “right” to the “good life.”
On the other hand, Breggin explains,
  • Independence wants government “to protect his freedom to take care of himself.” Independence is “up to the challenge” of providing for himself and his loved ones. Breggin writes, “He believes that he has a right to take responsibility for himself and to keep most of his earnings for himself and his family.”...

Why Didn't the Founders Abolish Slavery? - Intellectual Takeout
"Reparations for slavery have reemerged as a hotbed issue in the 2020 election, raising the question of why the Founding Fathers did not abolish slavery when starting their new country.
Many of the Founders – including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Alexander Hamilton – opposed the practice.
This raises the question: If they opposed slavery, then why did it persist in the U.S. until 1865?
  • Here are four reasons taken from their own writings during the founding period:
