"GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Holding signs denouncing “circus cruelty” of animals, about 100 people protested Saturday outside Van Andel Arena during the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus shows.
 Protestors, wearing shirts with the slogan “Circus = Cruelty,” waved posters showing suffering elephants and attempted to pass out informational pamphlets as families streamed out of the arena Saturday afternoon.
Although many families moved quickly past the crowd, avoiding any materials protestors offered, Rockford attorney Ginny Mikita was undeterred by the cold response.
“It’s not about trying to scare children, it’s about trying to educate them,” said Mikita, 50, who specializes in animal protection cases.
It’s about “what goes on behind the scenes and how we treat these magnificent sentient beings.”"
