Why CVTs Are Awesome Transmissions:
"If there is one transmission that has the most detractors, it's the continuously variable transmission, or CVT.
It's criticized for how it sounds, how it operates, and how it feels.
The main criticism is that it feels unnatural compared to the gearboxes that were used to.
Thing is, the CVT is actually one of the best gearboxes that you can have in a car.
It's so good, that when it was first used in an F1 car by Williams, it was banned because of the advantage it'd give.
And that's because a lot of the CVT on the market are inherently compromised, because people just don't understand them.
In reality, a CVT can keep the engine in its powerband, like it can hold peak torque for longer, or peak horsepower..."

Not a fan.
Had a 2010 Nissan Rogue that I purchased new. First transmission replacement at 8,000 miles (under warranty), second one at 126,000 miles (not under warranty).
Nissan refused to pay for the replacement. It is a well known serial engineering defect and I hope that someday a class action lawsuit is filed. I will never again purchase a Nissan product.
I had similar probs with Chrysler tranny in a Mitsubishi Diamanti. I don't like the feel of the CVT. Got a RAV 6 speed now.
