  • 1948 - The Berlin Airlift began.
  • 1954 - The U.S. Air Force Academy was formed in Colorado.
  • 1979 - Iran was proclaimed to be an Islamic Republic by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini after the fall of the Shah.
