This has been the global warming scare story of the week, heavily promoted by the usual suspects, including Time, CBS, the Washington Post, the Guardian, the New York Times and, inevitably, the BBC.
Here is the BBC version:
Antarctica is shedding ice at an accelerating rate.

Salon Writer: Shun Friends and Family Who Support Trump

Salon Writer: Shun Friends and Family Who Support Trump
"Here’s a shocker.
Leftists aren’t all too crazy about riders of the Trump train.
Progressive types are known for denying MAGA people real estate transactions.
Banning them from their concerts.
Attempting to crater their skulls with 2x4s.
Then there’s this.
A writer over at salon is recommending you shun all of your Trump-loving friends and family until they repent.
Yeah, for reals:
If you have friends or relatives who support Donald Trump you should confront them.
Explain to them that they are complicit with Trump’s cruelty and sadism.
Then communicate that you will no longer speak with them, nor will you offer them emotional, financial or other types of support until they denounce Donald Trump and what he represents — and make amends through speech and action.
This will not be easy.
Doing what is right rarely is.
But it is necessary..."

Identity Warriors Have Infiltrated the Sciences. Here's the Damage They're Doing
"In conversations with most college officials, many CEOs, many politicians, and race hustlers, it’s not long before the magical words “diversity” and “inclusiveness” drop from their lips.
Racial minorities are the intended targets of this sociological largesse, but women are included, as well.
This obsession with diversity and inclusion is in the process of leading the nation to decline in a number of areas.
We’re told how it’s doing so in science, in an article by Heather Mac Donald, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, titled “How Identity Politics Is Harming the Sciences.”
Mac Donald says that identity politics has already taken over the humanities and social sciences on American campuses.
Waiting in the wings for a similar takeover are the STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and math.
...Universities and other institutions have started watering down standards and requirements in order to attract more minorities and women.
Some of the arguments for doing so border on insanity.
A math education professor at the University of Illinois wrote that “mathematics itself operates as whiteness.”
She says that the ability to solve algebra and geometry problems perpetuates “unearned privilege” among whites..."

A reasonable assessment-----Separating Kids at Border: The Truth | National Review

Separating Kids at Border: The Truth | National Review
"Some economic migrants are using children as chits, but the problem is fixable — if Congress acts.
The latest furor over Trump immigration policy involves the separation of children from parents at the border.
As usual, the outrage obscures more than it illuminates, so it’s worth walking through what’s happening here.

For the longest time, illegal immigration was driven by single males from Mexico.

Over the last decade, the flow has shifted to women, children, and family units from Central America.
...The aministration isn’t changing the rules that pertain to separating an adult from the child.
See the source imageThose remain the same.
Separation happens only if officials find that the adult is falsely claiming to be the child’s parent, or is a threat to the child, or is put into criminal proceedings.
It's the last that is operative here.
The past practice had been to give a free pass to an adult who is part of a family unit.
The new Trump policy is to prosecute all adults.
The idea is to send a signal that we are serious about our laws and to create a deterrent against re-entry. (Illegal entry is a misdemeanor, illegal re-entry a felony.)
...Needless to say, children should not be making this journey that is fraught with peril.
But there is now a premium on bringing children because of how we have handled these cases.
They are considered chits.

In April, the New York Times reported:
Some migrants have admitted they brought their children not only to remove them from danger in such places as Central America and Africa, but because they believed it would cause the authorities to release them from custody sooner.
Others have admitted to posing falsely with children who are not their own, and Border Patrol officials say that such instances of fraud are increasing.
According to azcentral.com, it is “common to have parents entrust their children to a smuggler as a favor or for profit.”...

Are these worst US cities to live in? Study looks at quality of life:
See the source image"Where Americans live can have a considerable impact on their quality of life. In some U.S. cities, everyday comfort and happiness is much harder to attain than in others.
Quality of life is subjective, and difficult to measure.
...24/7 Wall St. created an index with measures in eight categories -- crime, economy, education, environment, health, housing, infrastructure, and leisure -- to identify the 50 worst cities to live in..."
