Energy plan: mass transit, conserve
"Congressman Fred Upton was touting more funding for mass transit,But one suggestion more than others is being heard more often...... politicians are counting on you to cut dependence on oil.
'I tell people, you've got to change your lifestyle,' said state Rep. Gerald Van Woerkom."

Hmmm....the politicians stopped domestic oil exploration, power plant construction, gasoline refinery construction and nuclear power plants....

..... but now it's us, the taxpayer and citizen who must pay more and "change our lifestyle"?!!!!!!!!!"

Human nature?

Reading Eagle Newspaper:
"Bon Jovi's concert in Central Park this Saturday is free. But that isn't stopping some scalpers from selling tickets for as much as $1,500 a pair"

Well, duh!
Sad, the "education" those rockers missed.

Imagine if the teachers were given badges, how awful the other 80% of them would feel.

Energy Myths

Energy Myths
"With the long July Fourth weekend, you might get a chance to see your senator or representative. If so, you should be ready to dispel a few myths politicians now have about drilling for more oil."

• "We can't drill our way out of our energy crisis."
Actually, we can.

• "Oil companies are sitting on 68 million acres of oil leases and refuse to drill."
This is yet another slander of "Big Oil" by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — one that has become a major talking point for Democrats in Congress. It's completely dishonest.

• "Even if drilling works, it'll take a decade or more for the oil to flow."
This is quite an argument coming from the Democratic Party, which has made keeping oil off the market a linchpin of its energy policy for decades.
If President Clinton hadn't vetoed the idea of drilling in ANWR back in 1995, we'd have that oil on the market today. Ditto if Congress had approved ANWR drilling in 2002, when President Bush requested it.

• "Record profits by big oil companies are the reason for soaring prices."
It's true that oil company profits have never been higher. But put into perspective, oil company profits are high because the price is high. As a share of revenue, profits aren't so high.
The average profit, as we've noted before, is around 8 to 9 cents to the dollar. That compares with about 7 cents to the dollar for manufacturers and more than 15 cents to the dollar for computer makers.
In short, oil profits aren't out of whack with the rest of industry.
Read the entire article and then you will know the truth!

Fannie Mac and Freddie Mac insolvent!

And Obama wants to loot the carcasses?
"even if Fannie and Freddie obtain an exemption from new accounting standards, that doesn't make them adequately capitalized. That just allows them to continue to pretend that they are.

In other news concerning the financial health of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, consider this change proposed by Barack Obama.
In the Boston Globe’s story about Barack Obama’s strong support for funneling government money to real estate developers (who often abandon the properties they build with government money) is this paragraph urging the “siphoning” of profits from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac:

Obama has continued to support increased subsidies as a presidential candidate, calling for the creation of an Affordable Housing Trust Fund, which could distribute an estimated $500 million a year to developers. The money would be siphoned from the profits of two mortgage companies created and supervised by the federal government, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."

Read it all and worry......

Cold War on Campus

Cold War on Campus
"In order to fulfill the requirements for a major in history at Northwestern University, my daughter took a course called 'The Cold War At Home.' As one might imagine in the hothouse of the college system, left wing views predominate.
The students read Ellen Shrecker, not Ronald Radosh.
Joseph McCarthy has been transmogrified into Adolf Hitler.
And victimology stands as the overarching theme of the course.
Communists in the United States are merely benign civil rights advocates and union supporters.
The word espionage never once crossed the lips of the instructor."

Township may rezone park -- just in case

Township may rezone park -- just in case
"Fruitland Township officials are taking steps to help protect what's been described as the 'single most significant recreational resource in the township.'
Although there are no plans in the works to ever sell Duck Lake State Park, the township's planning commission and master plan are calling for new zoning for the 728-acre site in case it were ever sold to private interests. A three-person subcommittee of planning commission members recently began researching the issue.
Township officials made it clear that they have no reason to believe that the state would ever sell the site that features Lake Michigan shoreline dunes, Duck Lake beach and boat-launch access, picnic areas and trails for exploring the natural, wooded setting. A state official also described the sale of an entire state park as highly unlikely."

This smells!
