Does This Look Like the Face of a Convicted Cop Killer ESPN Paid Tribute to Before Laying Off 100 People? - Barstool Sports:
Assata Shakur

"In case you’re not a regular visitor ESPN’s women’s site ESPNW like I am, then you might have missed this piece they posted Tuesday
Five poems about the new feminism.
And if you did, I truly pity you because they were every bit as awesomely life-changing as you could imagine five poems about the new feminism on a sports site could be.
Here’s a sample of the first one:
Revolution
Dr. DaMaris Hill
(for Asatta Shakur)
Revolution ain’t a date in a history book
It’s an ivy that thorns
A lily that pricks. It stings
Like the splash of a copper colored girl
running in a skinned knee
ruining her Easter dress

It goes on from there...
But what’s most interesting is that dedication to Asatta Shakur, whose name is actually spelled Assata Shakur.
Which is actually an alias for her real name, Joanne Deborah Chesimard.
At least that’s how they refer to her in the FBI posters that proclaim her their Most Wanted female fugitive domestic terrorist.
From Shakur’s Wikipedia page:
In May 1973, Shakur was involved in a shootout on the New Jersey Turnpike, in which New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster was killed and Trooper James Harper was grievously assaulted; she was charged in these attacks. … In 1977, she was convicted of the first-degree murder of Foerster and of seven other felonies related to the shootout. … She escaped from prison in 1979 and, after living as a fugitive for several years, fled to Cuba in 1984, where she received political asylum. She has been living in Cuba ever since. Since May 2, 2005, the FBI has classified her as a domestic terrorist and offered a $1 million reward for assistance in her capture [and] the New Jersey Attorney General offered to match the FBI reward, increasing the total reward for her capture to $2 million.
...But I’d have to think that when you’re a major media outlet that’s losing subscribers by the tens of millions, drowning in red ink and preparing to end the careers of a hundred loyal employees, promoting cop killers on one of your platforms is not the best business model..."

Jeff Sessions lays Justice foundation in difficult 100 days - Washington Times

Jeff Sessions lays Justice foundation in difficult 100 days - Washington Times:

"The Justice Department has had perhaps the roughest ride of any Cabinet branch during the first 100 days of the Trump administration, facing hostile judges who have blocked the president’s immigration plans, the ouster of the acting attorney general and even accusations of racism leveled against Jeff Sessions during his confirmation hearing for attorney general.
But the department, working arm in arm with the Department of Homeland Security, also has covered the most ground when it comes to implementing the administration’s priorities."

Chinese Navy Celebration Poster Fails Miserably - Can You Spot All Their Mistakes? - World War Wings:

South China Morning Post-Made in China...
The Chinese Navy is ramping up celebrations to showcase their 68th anniversary with a display of military might.

They wanted to show the world just how strong they weapons of war really are.
However, the weapons of war that they showed in their promotional poster don’t look like the ones they actually have.
Just take a second to look at this poster, it’s like a Where’s Waldo of military amateurism.

The term “Made In China” definitely resonates with this poster, but it’s not just how cheap it looks there other wrongs.
Honestly, the only thing they got right about this poster is the Liaoning, their aircraft carrier just about everything else is so poorly done.

WEIBO
  • The jet taking off the carrier is actually a MiG-35, a Russian jet not used by China’s Air Force.
  • The poorly photoshopped ships behind the carrier are American San Antonio-Class Amphibious Assault ships.
  • Although the jets flying above the carrier are in fact Chinese, they are J-10 fighters and are not launched from carriers.
They tried to make their military look fearsome but they failed miserably by doing cheap knock-offs of other people’s work..."

Ideological Homophily in the 4th Estate | HeterodoxAcademy.org

Ideological Homophily in the 4th Estate | HeterodoxAcademy.org:
"In a recent article for the Times Higher Education I pointed out how the lack of ideological diversity among social researchers not only undermines the extent to which research is trusted, funded or utilized, but also undermines researchers’ “capacity to understand phenomena, predict trends, or craft effective interventions.”
A recent study by Jack Shafer and Tucker Doherty, published by Politico, suggests that journalistic outlets face many of the same challenges as academic institutions:
Image result for liberal MediaWhere do journalists work, and how much has that changed in recent years? To determine this, my colleague Tucker Doherty excavated labor statistics and cross-referenced them against voting patterns and Census data to figure out just what the American media landscape looks like, and how much it has changed.
The results read like a revelation. The national media really does work in a bubble, something that wasn’t true as recently as 2008. And the bubble is growing more extreme. Concentrated heavily along the coasts, the bubble is both geographic and political. If you’re a working journalist, odds aren’t just that you work in a pro-Clinton county—odds are that you reside in one of the nation’s most pro-Clinton counties…
…The “media bubble” trope might feel overused by critics of journalism who want to sneer at reporters who live in Brooklyn or California and don’t get the “real America” of southern Ohio or rural Kansas. But these numbers suggest it’s no exaggeration: Not only is the bubble real, but it’s more extreme than you might realize. And it’s driven by deep industry trends.
The authors then go on to explain why the shift is happening. It turns out, the trend seems to be driven overwhelmingly by structural changes to the industry itself rather than by any type of overt or intentional bias on the part of reporters:
…Internet publishers are now adding workers at nearly twice the rate newspaper publishers are losing them.

This isn’t just a shift in medium. It’s also a shift in sociopolitics, and a radical one. Where newspaper jobs are spread nationwide, internet jobs are not: Today, 73 percent of all internet publishing jobs are concentrated in either the Boston-New York-Washington-Richmond corridor or the West Coast crescent that runs from Seattle to San Diego and on to Phoenix. The Chicagoland area, a traditional media center, captures 5 percent of the jobs, with a paltry 22 percent going to the rest of the country. And almost all the real growth of internet publishing is happening outside the heartland, in just a few urban counties, all places that voted for Clinton. So when your conservative friends use “media” as a synonym for “coastal” and “liberal,” they’re not far off the mark..."

"The mayor of New Orleans wanted treasured cultural monuments removed and he got what he wished for at the expense of the citizens of the city:

“We will no longer allow the Confederacy to literally be put on a pedestal in the heart of our city.” – New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu

The City of New Orleans removed the first of four Confederate monuments this morning in an effort to appease those who believe the monuments represent racism or pretty much anything else they object to. By erasing our past, do we change anything?"

Obama Turns Out To Be A Greedy One-Percenter | Stock News & Stock Market Analysis - IBD: "Money in Politics: President Obama...the only thing he's done so far is cash in on his presidency with a massive book deal and a six-figure speech gig.
Image result for obama greedyEarlier this month, Obama reportedly signed a book deal with Penguin Random House for more than $65 million for one book written by him and another written by Michelle.
(The exact amount wasn't made public.)
Assuming that figure is correct and they both write 500 page books, that amounts to roughly $144 per word for each of them.

The Pope's Pilgrimage to Al-Azhar

The Pope's Pilgrimage to Al-Azhar
  • During a meeting between the former Papal Nuncio to Cairo, Archbishop Jean-Paul Gobel, and Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, the Grand Imam warned Gobel that "speaking about Islam in a negative manner was a 'red line' that must not be crossed." If there are any condemnations of violence against the Coptic Christians, they are likely to be articulated only by the Grand Imam and the Egyptian President.
  • Image result for pope islamIf the Pope's humble bearing is excessive, however, it might be interpreted even by peaceable Muslims as a submission. If Francis is asked by the Grand Imam to pray at al-Azhar's mosque, that is a piety that el-Tayeb would not likely reciprocate in a Coptic Church in Egypt.
  • Facilitating the establishment of an Islamic-Christian relationship that excludes Judaism can only serve the Islamist goal of isolating Jews and Israel. Although relations between the Vatican and al-Azhar will improve in the near future, the honeymoon will not. The Grand Imam will doubtless protect his own theological power base and keep his distance from both the Vatican and the Egyptian regime.           Read on!

Crony Capitalists in Detroit Are Ripping Off Taxpayers - Hit & Run : Reason.com
"The popular narrative in Motown, near where I live, has it that the city is back!
In the downtown core, business is booming, streets are buzzing, eateries are opening, and apartments are renting.
And all of this is credited to the hard-work and big investments of rich billionaires, particularly Quicken Loan's Dan Gilbert, who have all banded together and adopted this city to nurture it back to health.
Image result for Examples of Crony CapitalismBut Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations warned, when business meet up, "even for merriment and diversion," the conversation inevitably "ends in a conspiracy against the public."
And so it is in Detroit where Gilbert and his pals are turning crony capitalism into a high art.
They are cramming this city, whose population is about a third of what it used to be, with one structure after another: Stadiums, high-rises, light rail.
Why?
Because they get taxpayers to subsidize part of their construction while they keep the entire profit from its use.
But the latest brownfield transformation scam – ooops, legislation -- that Gilbert is pushing in the state would put all of these previous schemes to shame..."

TUCKER CARLSON Embarrasses Colby Professor Who Says Colleges SHOULD Be Able To Shut Down Free Speech [VIDEO] » 100percentfedUp.com:
"Last night on the Tucker Carlson Tonight show, Tucker debated a loony leftist English professor at Colby college wrote a piece in the New Republic where he essentially argued that it’s okay for colleges to shut down free speech on their campuses based on “value judgments” the colleges make about the speakers.
From Hanlon’s piece in the New Republic:
Rejecting campus speakers is not an assault on free speech. Rather, like so many other decisions made every day by college students, teachers, and administrators, it’s a value judgment.
Aaron Hanlon of Colby College in Maine said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” that Ann Coulter does not meet the “standards for speakers” that should be invited to campus. Hanlon said he was personally “very speech-permissive” but that colleges should be able to make judgments based on a speaker’s value– but not their ideology– before allowing them to speak. Carlson asked Hanlon to name one speaker who was disallowed on campus due to a liberal viewpoint under that rule. – FOX..."

"All eyes these days are on North Korea, but menacing as Kim & Co. may be, a nuclear-armed Iran is yet more dangerous.  The North Koreans may rattle cages and stomp their feet, shooting off missiles and even testing bombs, but their intentions so far are mainly to retain their atrocious despotic control of their own people.  The Iranians, both through their ideology and evident actions in progress across the globe, are truly imperialistic in their intentions.  They seek to rule the Middle East, if not the world, in the name of their millenialist brand of Shia Islam."
