The greatest threat to American journalism: the loss of neutral reporting | TheHill
"Over the past several months, I’ve watched, read and heard much about the potential Armageddon facing the profession of journalism.
I’ve watched colleagues proclaim that “fake news” attacks by President Trump, crowd chants of “enemies” and the expulsion of CNN’s Jim Acosta from the White House press room pose the greatest threats to news reporting in history.
I respectfully disagree.
...We journalists have more freedom, more reach, and more ability to inform today than ever before. But with those advantages comes an even greater responsibility to the public, one I fear is being denigrated by journalists who substitute opinion for facts and emotion for dispassion.
See the source imageBeyond the killings, the threats, and the vitriol, what most threatens journalism today is the behavior of its own practitioners.
We have become too full of our own opinions, too enthralled with our own celebrity, too emotionally offended by warranted and unwarranted criticism, and too astray from the neutral, factual voice our teachers in journalism school insisted we practice.
...The traits that have made journalism great and respected and impactful for most of the past century are sorely lacking in many of today’s practitioners.

  • Instead of facts, many journalists today trade in supposition and opinion.
  • Instead of dispassionate neutral coverage, many have offered emotional rants that border on disrespect.
  • Instead of covering all sides of the story, entire news organizations have chosen to pick one side over another.

...Fox News anchor Shepard Smith declared: “President Trump stands with Saudi Arabia. Today the president insulted the murder victim and sided with the Saudis, who said our CIA is wrong.”
On CNN, anchor Brianna Keilar suggested there was little difference in Trump’s annual rite of pardoning a Thanksgiving turkey and his treatment of Saudi Arabia...
...My old Irish aunt once admonished me in a slightly different, but equally effective, way. She used to say, “If you want to have people listen to your opinion, become a politician. Otherwise, just stick to some damn facts, Mr. Reporter.”

Cow horn initiative rejected by Swiss voters - The Local
"An initiative designed to stop Swiss farmers dehorning cows and goats has been rejected by voters at a referendum.
Cow horn initiative rejected by Swiss votersThe initiative would have seen farmers who choose not to dehorn their cows and goats given extra subsidies to cover additional associated costs.
...However, Capaul – who has always said his initiative is about dignity for animals – refused to talk of defeat after the result became clear.
“The cow horn interest group is still in existence. We will get together soon and discuss the next step,” the farmer told national broadcaster SRF in an interview.
...However, animals with horns need more space and are more labour intensive which is why Capaul and his supporters had called for an additional subsidy for farmers who chose not to dehorn..."

The Lefty Lies About a World Without Borders | Trending
"My husband recently noticed a lot of movies with the UN in a positive role, and basically a world-government role.
Even though Husband is largely apolitical, this made him snort.
See the source imageBecause even people who are mostly apolitical know the disaster that child-trafficking, aid-stealing UN “troops” are...
...I told him that’s because the left always telegraphs their intentions.
Before they were ready for Hilary! for instance, they ran movies and wrote books about a president that was basically Hillary for at least a decade and probably more.
...And right now the left is so near that one-world-government, no borders, give peace a chance, John Lennon’s Imagine world they can taste it.
Or so they think.
Of course, they’re nowhere near it.
What they are actually enabling is the plundering of the first world by the third and the destruction of civilization and the engine of creation and production that has lifted most of the world population to a level our ancestors would consider unimaginable wealth.
...This is akin to someone who has a house that outstrips its neighborhood by several levels deciding to leave their door open day and night.
Particularly you know, if the house is in the middle of blighted Detroit, which metaphorically speaking, the United States is..."

What the media isn’t telling you about the Jamal Khashoggi affair - Conservative Review
"The legacy media isn’t telling you the full truth about Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi exile who is feared dead after he was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul earlier this month.
His disappearance has created a media firestorm, resulting in tensions between the United States and its traditional Middle East partners.
...Khashoggi the “journalist”
Image may contain: one or more people and textPretty much the entirety of the legacy media has attached a wildly misleading “journalist” label to Jamal Khashoggi.
While he was once a journalist for several state-controlled Gulf media enterprises, Khashoggi has not been anything resembling a journalist for quite some time...
Khashoggi the “man of peace”
...Khashoggi, on the other hand, has sought to drag the Islamic world into endless conflict.
And as is typical for many Islamists, Jamal Khashoggi had a serious bloodlust when it came to violence against the state of Israel.
He expressed these violent aims in a 2014 piece for the Muslim Brotherhood-tied Middle East Monitor, in which he wrote that he hoped one day Islamic nations would join the U.S.-designated terrorist group Hamas in its campaign to destroy Israel.
In another piece he wrote that year, Khashoggi shamed Arab states for not supporting the jihadi terror group.
What’s next?..."

When parents began complaining that an adult man was in school with their underage children, they say their concerns were “dismissed as racist,” according to the Daily Mail.

Dan Bongino Presentation of “Spygate”… | The Last Refuge
"Dan Bongino delivers speech about “Spygate” during David Horowitz Freedom Center Restoration Weekend 2018.
His presentation outlines how the big threads all connect to weave a very specific conspiracy.
Great presentation:

"One of the key points Bongino highlights is how none of the paper-trail; nothing about the substance of the conspiracy; can possibly surface until *after* Robert Mueller is no longer in the picture.
Until Robert Mueller is removed, none of this information can/will surface.
That’s why every political and media entity are desperate to protect Mueller; and also why Mueller’s investigation will never end.

"Billions will keep flowing from Michigan taxpayers to a few corporations until at least 2032
In 2017, the Michigan House of Representatives rejected a promised reduction in the state’s income tax rate.
That tax cut, had it been passed, would have saved individuals and households $463 million this year. Opponents deemed the measure a budget buster.
But this year, the state of Michigan will pay $623 million in taxpayer-funded subsidies to a small number of favored corporations.
Many of the recipients have likely been collecting large payments for years.
The last of these payments won’t be sent to companies until 2032..."

Worried About Mass Shootings? Be Glad You’re An American | Power Line
See the source image"Liberals constantly assert, without citing any data, that the U.S. is alone among civilized nations in suffering the phenomenon of mass shootings.
Like so many claims, it suits the Left’s narrative while being entirely untrue.
John Lott explains:
People have been acting for a long time like the United States is the world’s hotbed of mass public shootings. Following a 2015 mass shooting during his administration, President Barack Obama declared: “The one thing we do know is that we have a pattern now of mass shootings in this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world.”
This belief is constantly used to push for more gun control. If we can only get rid of guns in the United States, we will get rid of these mass public shootings and be more like the rest of the world, gun-control supporters preach.
But America doesn’t lead the world in mass public shootings. We’re not even close. …
Over the course of 18 years, from 1998 to 2015, our list contains 2,354 attacks and at least 4,880 shooters outside the United States and 53 attacks and 57 shooters within this country. By our count, the U.S. makes up 1.49 percent of the murders worldwide, 2.20 percent of the attacks, and less than 1.15 percent of the mass public shooters. All these are much less than America’s 4.6 percent share of the world population.
Of the 97 countries where we identified mass public shootings, the U.S. ranks 64th per capita in its rate of attacks and 65th in fatalities. Major European countries, such as Norway, Finland, France, Switzerland and Russia, all have at least 25 percent higher per capita murder rates from mass public shootings..."

Surprise Trump House Victory - Gerard Lameiro, Ph.D.
"Surprise Trump House Victory – Establishment Republicans Lost the House
Looking at the 2018 election results in detail, you will find some surprises including an important and subtle surprise Trump House victory.
Contrary to some analyst opinions, Trump did not lose the House.
In fact, Trump was not the cause of the loss of the House from Republican control to Democratic control.

Similarly, there’s no reason for the Democrats to celebrate for too long because it is highly likely they will lose control of the House in 2020.
If the Democrats didn’t really win the House and the House wasn’t lost by Trump, what did happen and why?
The Establishment Republicans, also known as the moderate Republicans or the RINOs (Republicans in name only) lost the House.
The numbers seem to back up that dramatic claim.
The President’s supporters in the House, the pro-Trumpers, those who supported President Trump’s major policy initiatives enthusiastically, did great.
That was a surprise Trump House victory.

How Did the 42 Republican Seats in which the Incumbent Retired or Resigned Do in the Election?

All together 28 House Republicans chose to retire at the end of the current Congress. Another 14 House Republicans chose to resign.
The 42 House Republicans who either retired or resigned can be divided up according to their apparent reasons for their respective decisions:
I think the House has had the old Establishment Republican members almost completely removed from office by the American voters...
With this surprise Trump House victory, the conservative long-range trends continue. In the long-range, Establishment Republicans in the House and Senate are losing and Conservative Republicans in the House and Senate are winning and replacing them.

What’s the Outlook for the House in 2020?

It will return into Republican hands, and it will be much more conservative.
Expect that it will support President Trump more closely in his second term of office."

Hot Times In Your Home Town? | Power Line
"As part of its effort to promote global warming hysteria, the New York Times has published an interactive feature titled How Much Hotter Is Your Home Town Than When You Were Born?
...He found that temperatures have cooled there, by the Times’ measure, since 1960.
I tried the same thing with my home town, Watertown, South Dakota, and got the same result:
Our dataset goes back to 1960, when you were 10. Back then, the Watertown area could expect about 14 days per year to reach at least 90 degrees. Today, the Watertown area can expect 10 days at or above 90 degrees, on average.
Here is the chart for my home town:
My point in this post is not to rehash the many arguments surrounding the global warming theory, but rather to pose a question: Why is it that so many people seem willing to believe that their environment has gotten significantly hotter, even when that claim is, or should be, contradicted by their own experience?..."

Is RCP8.5 an impossible scenario? | Climate Etc.

Is RCP8.5 an impossible scenario? | Climate Etc.
"In considering ‘worst case’ climate change impacts, we first need to assess the realistic worst case for global carbon emissions.
The recently published U.S. National Climate Assessment shows that we are currently on track for RCP8.5.
...Larry Kummer wrote a 2015 guest post at Climate Etc. entitled A closer look at scenario RCP8.5.  LK describes RCP8.5 as a “useful worst case scenario.”
RCP8.5 figures prominently in the most alarming of future climate scenarios.
I am wondering if RCP8.5 is too extreme, in the sense that is may be impossible, given constraints on recoverable fossil fuel supply.
In particular, there is a fairly large number of papers arguing that assumptions about coal are incorrect: (list of papers courtesy of LK)...
Climate projections are based on emission scenarios.
The emission scenarios used by the IPCC and by mainstream climate scientists are largely derived from the predicted demand for fossil fuels, and in our view take insufficient consideration of the constrained emissions that are likely due to the depletion of these fuels.
This paper, by contrast, takes a supply- side view of CO2 emission, and generates two supply-driven emission scenarios based on a comprehensive investigation of likely long-term pathways of fossil fuel production drawn from peer-reviewed literature published since 2000.
The potential rapid increases in the supply of the non-conventional fossil fuels are also investigated. Climate projections calculated in this paper indicate that the future atmospheric CO2 concentration will not exceed 610 ppm in this century; and that the increase in global surface temperature will be lower than 2.6 C compared to pre-industrial level even if there is a significant increase in the production of non-conventional fossil fuels..."

Photojournalist Andy Ngo, who was on the ground to capture the outrageous antics of the antagonistic antifa mob, says those weapons were used exclusively by the antifa agitators.  Although there were a handful of arrests, assault complaints against masked agitators went unanswered because their identities were unknown.
