Packing heat in Detroit: Motown residents answer police chief's call to arms
Packing heat in Detroit: Motown residents answer police chief's call to arms | Fox News:
"Detroit resident Darrell Standberry doesn't navigate streets of the Motor City without his licensed handgun, and it already has saved his life once.
“I never leave home without my weapon,” he said.
“You never know when or what you’ll encounter.”
It was 2011, when Standberry stopped at a gas station on Six Mile Road after attending his son’s football practice.
After filling up the tank of his SUV, he left the car running and went inside to pay, only to spot a man jumping in behind the wheel.
...“I saw him pulling out his gun to shoot me,” Standberry recalled.
“So I pulled my gun out and shot him.”
The shot went through the windshield and hit its target, a criminal with a long record who made a short-lived getaway before crashing into a tree and dying.
Standberry’s claim of self-defense was never questioned by local cops.
...“When you look at the city of Detroit, we’re kind of leading the way in terms of urban areas with law-abiding citizens carrying guns,” Craig said recently..."

How US Sugar Policies Just Helped America Lose 600 Jobs
How US Sugar Policies Just Helped America Lose 600 Jobs
The manufacturer of Oreo cookies recently announced plans to move production of Oreos from Chicago to Mexico, resulting in a loss of 600 U.S. jobs.
This should be a wake-up call to defenders of the U.S. sugar program and other job-destroying trade barriers.
The leading ingredient in Oreos is sugar, and U.S. trade barriers currently require Americans to pay twice the average world prices for sugar.
Sugar-using industries now have a big incentive to relocate from the United States to countries where access to their primary ingredient is not restricted.
According to a 2006 report from the government’s International Trade Administration:
“Chicago, one of the largest U.S. cities for confectionery manufacturing, has lost nearly one-third of its SCP manufacturing jobs over the last 13 years...
...That lesson appears to be lost on unions that are supposed to represent the workers losing their jobs in Chicago.
For example, The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union consistently has opposed free trade agreements with sugar-producing countries like Australia, Brazil, and Mexico—the kind of trade deals that just might protect their members’ jobs.
So that’s how the cookie crumbles."

Three EM’s (emerging markets) Crumbling—– Brazil, Turkey And Malaysia
Three EM’s Crumbling—– Brazil, Turkey And Malaysia | David Stockman's Contra Corner:
"As the great EM unwind continues unabated, we’ve noted that in some hard-hit countries, the terrible trio of falling commodity prices, decelerating Chinese demand, and looming Fed hike has been exacerbated by political turmoil.
In Brazil, for instance, President Dilma Rousseff’s approval rating is at 8% and voters are calling for her impeachment amid allegations of fiscal book cooking and corruption at Petrobras where she was chairwoman for seven years.
This comes as the BRL looks set for further weakness and as the country grapples with stagflation and dual deficits.
In Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has brought the country to the brink of civil war in an effort to nullify a strong showing at the ballot box by the pro-Kurdish HDP.
In the process, he’s managed to put the lira under more pressure than it might already be under and indeed, the currency is putting in new lows against the dollar on almost daily basis.
Now, we turn to Malaysia where, as we documented exactly a week ago, the situation is tenuous at best and nearing a veritable meltdown at worst.
As a reminder, here’s what happened last Friday:"

How they "think"-----California drought: Climate change plays a role, study says. But how big?
California drought: Climate change plays a role, study says. But how big? - LA Times
A growing number of scientists have made the claim that climate change is at least partly responsible for California's crippling drought.
Now researchers have estimated the extent to which humans are to blame: between 8% and 27%.
In other words, without heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions causing temperatures to rise, the drought would have been 8% to 27% less severe than it is, said John Abatzoglou, a University of Idaho climate researcher and coauthor of a study published Thursday in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
"By knowing how much global warming has contributed to the trend in California drought conditions over the past century, we can reliably predict how the future will play out," said A. Park Williams, a bioclimatologist at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory who led the study..."

Biomedical Doctor Reveals Shocking ‘Suspicion’ Surrounding the Harvesting of Aborted Baby Organs | TheBlaze.com:
"Deisher said that the process, as far as she is concerned, likely wouldn’t be possible if a baby were to be killed in utero and then harvested afterward. She said it likely involves removing the heart, flushing the blood out and cleaning the organ.
“You just can’t do that if the baby has been killed in utero … think of that timing,” she said. “Because of that, I have suspected for years that, in some instances, these babies are alive when they are dissected and harvested.”

Dow 5,000? Yes, it could happen
Dow 5,000? Yes, it could happen - MarketWatch:
"Don’t be surprised if stock markets stabilize or bounce back in the next couple of days.
Markets are due at least a short-term rally after this week’s dramatic plunge.
This usually happens after a sell-off, no matter what the next big move is going to be.
It doesn’t mean anything.
But anyone who automatically assumes this is another easy “buying opportunity” is talking nonsense.
For the past couple of years, Wall Street’s perma-bulls have had it their way.
They’ve been gloating openly as stocks went up and up and up, seemingly without pause.
It got to the point that those warning about valuations and danger signs had been mocked into silence — or were simply ignored.
Not now.
I don’t mean to be alarmist or to induce panic, but someone needs to tell the public that there is a plausible scenario in which the U.S. stock market now collapses by another 70% until the Dow Jones Industrial Average falls to about 5,000.
The index tumbled more than 3% to 16,460 on Friday.
Dow 5,000?
Really?"

When Pressed on Hillary’s Claim That Term ‘Anchor Baby’ Is Offensive, Bobby Jindal Was Prepared to Flip It Around on Her | Video | TheBlaze.com:
“You know, what I find offensive is Hillary Clinton, the left, when you look at those Planned Parenthood videos — they refuse to call them babies, they call it fetal tissue, they call them specimens,” Jindal said during a Fox News interview. “That’s what offensive.”
Jindal then made sure to note that Planned Parenthood is “protesting against my decision to cancel their Medicaid contract to make sure they are not getting taxpayer dollars in Louisiana.”
“What we’re going to do is display those Planned Parenthood videos so people are reminded of that grotesque language,” he added. What’s really offensive is the left refuses to say ‘babies.’ Instead they say fetal tissue, specimens. They are a bunch of science deniers.”

The Ugly Misogyny of Big Climate: "A Disgrace to the Profession": The World's Scientists on Michael E Mann, his Hockey Stick and their Damage to Science :: SteynOnline:
Like Sixties rockers, climate alarmists seem comfortable with women as adoring groupies, but don't appear to have much use for them in any other capacity.
In my introduction to the aforementioned "A Disgrace to the Profession", I say en passant that I had trouble finding female scientists to quote:

In my introduction to the aforementioned "A Disgrace to the Profession", I say en passant that I had trouble finding female scientists to quote:
There are fewer women than one might wish [in the book], but it seems to be a male-dominated field and indeed there is a palpable misogyny in the way some of Mann's defenders attack his female critics.
On the general point that's true, and a bit surprising.
I've spent most of my adult life around the arts and the media, and I would be surprised to find myself on a project with as few women as climate science.
The editorial director at Faber & Faber, my publishers on Broadway Babies Say Goodnight, is Belinda Matthews; my publisher at Regnery, for The [Un]documented Mark Steyn et al, is Marji Ross.
But it was very hard to find prominent female climate scientists.
The Climatic Research Unit in East Anglia is a boys' club, and so is Michael Mann, Gavin Schmidt and Kevin Trenberth's equivalent coterie across the Atlantic.
My book includes, as I've mentioned, Dr Judith Curry of Georgia Tech, as well as her compatriot Rosanne D'Arrigo, Australia's Jennifer Marohasy, and Welsh lukewarmer Tamsin Edwards.
Others turn up along the way, including Sallie Baliunas, who co-authored one of the first papers critical of the hockey stick, was promptly clubbed to a pulp by the Big Climate enforcers, and has mostly kept her down since.

Perhaps climate science is not a field in which women excel, or perhaps there is a real glass ceiling.
Whichever it is, as I said in my book, there is "a palpable misogyny in the way some of Mann's defenders attack his female critics".
And at that point I included a footnote:
Whichever it is, as I said in my book, there is "a palpable misogyny in the way some of Mann's defenders attack his female critics".
And at that point I included a footnote:
Diehard Manniac blogger "Tamino", for example, condescendingly refers to the aforementioned and distinguished Dr Judith Curry as "Aunt Judy" (see https://nigguraths.wordpress.com/2014/05/23/biotech-biostitutes/), which appears to be a derogatory porno term for an older woman one would be willing to have sex with if no one younger was to hand. Given that Mann enthusiastically facilitated the reduction of scientific dispute to name-calling, it would be unreasonable to expect his Mannboys to confine themselves to merely the Holocaust echoes of "denier".

Congressional Democrats probe group that revealed Planned Parenthood videos - Washington Times: "Congressional Democrats have opened their own investigation into the Planned Parenthood videos — but into the group that took the footage in which officials haggle over the prices of organs and discuss keeping a baby alive so his brain can be harvested.
The Center for Medical Progress may have broken federal laws in setting up a false-front company to secretly record Planned Parenthood employees talking about these and other practices, the Democrats say.
Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, also said it’s possible some of his colleagues in Congress knew about CMP’s activities and didn’t flag them for potential illegal behavior.
“These disturbing actions raise questions about whether the Center for Medical Progress has broken federal or state laws, and whether some members of Congress may have been aware of these potentially illegal activities before they were made public earlier this year,” the Maryland congressman wrote in a Thursday letter to David Daleiden, chief executive of CMP.
Mr. Cummings‘ letter asks for documents on CMP funding, donors, associates, activities and meetings and copies of all video and audio footage with Planned Parenthood employees.
...CMP has been roiling much of the country with its disturbing undercover videos, and it released its seventh video this week. Planned Parenthood officials have been captured talking casually over lunch or in offices with CMP actors, pretending to be tissue buyers, about pre-ordering fetal parts and about changing abortion techniques to get the best “specimens.”

Feds to Stop Calling Midget Raisins ‘Midget’
Feds to Stop Calling Midget Raisins ‘Midget’ | Washington Free Beacon:
"The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a regulation on Thursday to stop referring to midget raisins as “midget” after an activist group called the term offensive.
The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) issued the proposed rule, announcing the U.S. “Standards for Grades of Processed Raisins” would eliminate all five times the word midget is used. Midget has long been used to describe the differences in sizes of California raisins.
“The action would clarify AMS grade standards by eliminating the use of the term ‘midget,’ while consistently using the term ‘small’ for raisins graded in that category,” the USDA said in the proposed rule.
...The government said the change was prompted by a request from the Little People of America, a nonprofit membership organization for people of short stature.
The group wants to eliminate the word “midget” from society, and zeroed in on the raisin classification, although they said it was a benign use of the term.
...Removing the word midget is the first regulatory action taken by the USDA regarding raisins since the Supreme Court sided against them in June, ruling that they can no longer seize raisins from producers to make prices go up, striking down a New Deal-era program in the process."

SPREAD THIS: Marine Gets Kicked Out Of Service... Hillary Does NOT Want America To Know Why:
"Think of that. Three classified emails to expose the practices of a corrupt pedophile being shielded by military officials and you get kicked out of the military. Yet, send or receive 305 classified emails from a private server to obstruct investigators, and you’re a presidential frontrunner who’s being politically hounded.
The story isn’t finished quite yet, though. One of the parents of the Marines murdered, Greg Buckley Sr., has filed a lawsuit against the government in search of answers. Among other things, he wants Jason Brezler reinstated."

Credit Traders Gird for the Worst as Fed Loses Its Grip on Debt
Credit Traders Gird for the Worst as Fed Loses Its Grip on Debt - Bloomberg Business:
"What happens when the Federal Reserve loses its stranglehold over debt markets?
Investors are finding out.
The selloff in corporate bonds is deepening and investors are seeking safety in the longest-dated government debt, which does best when the economy does worst.
Defaults are rising as oil tumbles and investors are looking for the best ways to hedge against credit losses.
All this comes as the Fed does, well, nothing much.
Instead, it’s China that’s taken the lead with new rounds of financial stimulus in the face of slowing growth.
But some days it’s a free for all, with even Kazakhstan wielding its influence.
“Financial markets are desperate for the Fed to drive trading themes, but the ‘world’s central bank’ has fallen to the second rank this summer,” or sometimes third, Jim Vogel, an interest-rate strategist at FTN Financial in Memphis, Tennessee, wrote in a note Thursday..."

The Clinton campaign is still groping for two sentences to put together to explain why Hillary’s email server was wiped clean.
Campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri appeared on CNN moments ago to try again to come up with an answer. Instead, it was largely rambling and incoherent.
“When did she decide to delete all — you know, half of the emails she effectively engaged in during her four years as secretary of state,” Wolf Blitzer asked Palmieri.
“She had her, um, she had — what happened was she — state department came to all the former secretaries of state last fall to ask for — to ask for whatever records they may have because they realized that, um, uh, they didn’t becau- because, uh, not just Hillary Clinton but other secretaries of state may have used personal email they may not have captured everything.
“So she had, she asked, uh, her lawyers to look at this so she had some legal minds on the case to see which emails were state department and which were personal and, uh, turned over the state department ones, uh, anything that was business related and, and then chose not to retain the ones that she, the ones that were personal,” Palmieri said.
“On that point,” Blitzer responded, “why wouldn’t she want to keep her own email record

China Did Something Last Week That Glenn Beck Says Should ‘Send a Chill Down Your Spine’ | Video | TheBlaze.com:
"Beck brought on his chief researcher Jason Buttrill, who said “no one has the stomach to admit the truth” about what China has done.
“They’ve launched all-out economic warfare,” Buttrill said. “China devalued their currency, kicking off the biggest fall in over two decades. Why would a country do that to themselves? Sounds like a mistake, right? But China makes most of their money off exports, so they need a lower currency value in order to keep pumping out those cheap, plastic, ‘Made in China’ toys our kids have.”

FNC's Doocy: Lawyers I've Talked To Say Trump Is Right on Birthright Citizenship
FNC's Doocy: Lawyers I've Talked To Say Trump Is Right on Birthright Citizenship - Breitbart:
"Fox News Channel “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy said that lawyers he has conversed with say GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump is correct that the 14th Amendment does not require birthright citizenship on Wednesday.
Doocy, after playing GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s exchange with FNC host “Bill O’Reilly” over the 14th Amendment and birthright citizenship, where Trump and O’Reilly disagreed over whether the 14th Amendment grants birthright citizenship, said,
“I was talking to a former DOJ attorney yesterday about the 14th Amendment, and they — before O’Reilly and Trump even talked, and they said that because the 14th Amendment was written specifically about slaves after the Civil War, many lawyers think the 1898 case [United States v. Wong Kim Ark], involving this fellow here in this country to Chinese parents was wrongly decided by the Supreme Court.
So, I see what Mr. Trump is talking about right there.
But still, practically, what’s going to happen?”
Fellow co-host Brian Kilmeade answered that, “You can’t kick out 11 million people that are here. You can make it less attractive.
You can try to shut off the magnet, but there’s we can afford to kick out 11 million people.
Because they all have to get hearings, we all have to find them. It’s not practical.”"
