3 Key Democratic Claims on Guns Get Fact-Checked by WaPo — Here’s What They Found | TheBlaze.com

3 Key Democratic Claims on Guns Get Fact-Checked by WaPo — Here’s What They Found | TheBlaze.com:

"In the week following the worst mass shooting in American history, politicians in Washington, D.C., particularly Democrats, have made numerous claims related to gun violence. But is any of what they’re saying actually true, or just more talking points?

The Washington Post fact-checked three specific claims made by two Democratic senators, and found that, at least in these instances, there’s more political rhetoric being stated than veracity"

Instapundit » Blog Archive » GARRISON KEILLOR IS RETIRING FROM NPR’S THE PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION: “Public radio always wondere…:
As with many on the left, in the wake of 9/11, Keillor emerged as a vicious partisan, describing President Bush’s supporters thusly in 2004:
The party of Lincoln and Liberty was transmogrified into the party of hairy-backed swamp developers and corporate shills, faith-based economists, fundamentalist bullies with Bibles, Christians of convenience, freelance racists, misanthropic frat boys, shrieking midgets of AM radio, tax cheats, nihilists in golf pants, brownshirts in pinstripes, sweatshop tycoons, hacks, fakirs, aggressive dorks, Lamborghini libertarians, people who believe Neil Armstrong’s moonwalk was filmed in Roswell, New Mexico, little honkers out to diminish the rest of us, Newt’s evil spawn and their Etch-A-Sketch president, a dull and rigid man suspicious of the free flow of information and of secular institutions, whose philosophy is a jumble of badly sutured body parts trying to walk.
As Christopher Caldwell memorably put it that same year:  “At some point, Democrats became the party of small-town people who think they’re too big for their small towns
For these people, liberalism is not a belief at all. No, it’s something more important: a badge of certain social aspirations.
That is why the laments of the small-town leftists get voiced with such intemperance and desperation.
As if those who voice them are fighting off the nagging thoughtIf the Republicans aren’t particularly evil, then maybe I’m not particularly special.”

"What do you think a 9 year old girl would want to do when she grows up? Stereotypes tell us she would want to be a ballerina or maybe a veterinarian. But things are changing for the best. Stereotypes are changing, and Jesse Jane McParland is most definitely NOT your stereotypical 9 year old girl. When Jesse was very young, her parents wanted her to take classes like many young girls do. They tried taking her to ballet classes but, right away she was having none of it, she hated it...

AG Lynch Announces Global Police Force Partnership with UN | Truth Revolt
"During her speech at the United Nations Wednesday, Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced that the Department of Justice is launching a global police force in order to combat "violent extremism" in the United States.
A proposal such as this, with all of its various implications of an overreach of power, should be front-page news everywhere, but unfortunately, not many noticed. And that's a concern to constitutional attorney KrisAnne Hall who released a video to make the rallying call.
"Something happened yesterday that I'm afraid will go completely unnoticed," Hall began.
"Yesterday, the Department of Justice, several cities within the United States, several municipalities, linked up with the United Nations to form a global police initiative. It is called the Strong Cities Network."
...Helping her get this message out is noted fighter against the Islamization of America, Pamela Geller.
In her latest piece for Breitbart, she sends out a similar warning:
The groundwork is being laid for federal and international interference down to the local level. “The Strong Cities Network,” Lynch declared, “will serve as a vital tool to strengthen capacity-building and improve collaboration” – i.e., local dependence on federal and international authorities.
Lynch made the global (that is, United Nations) involvement clear when she added: “As we continue to counter a range of domestic and global terror threats, this innovative platform will enable cities to learn from one another, to develop best practices and to build social cohesion and community resilience here at home and around the world.”...

Former Starbucks CEO Slams Seattle For Scheduling Rule

Former Starbucks CEO Slams Seattle For Scheduling Rule | The Daily Caller:
"Former Starbucks President Howard Behar denounced a proposed scheduling rule Thursday for putting unnecessary stress on Seattle business owners.
Behar worked as president of the famed coffee shop for 21 years before eventually retiring in 2007. Starbucks started as a small coffee shop in Seattle but under his tenure it expanded into an international operation.
Behar warned on The Dori Monson Show that the very city in which his company started is about to put undue pressure on business owners because of a proposed scheduling rule.
“It’s the opposite of flexible; they are making it inflexible,” Behar told Monson.
“They are making it so there are so many rules that if you wanted to hire an extra person from your staff, you’d have to get permission from your employees first.
So you couldn’t even hire anybody without offering the hours to those people.”
Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and some city council members announced the new rule Feb. 4 with the aims to overhaul workplace scheduling laws.
Employers would be required to provide advance notice before schedule changes and give their workers at least 11 hours off between shifts.
It would also require employers to ask if their current workers want more hours before hiring any additional staff..."

Philadelphia Passes Soda Tax, But Not Without Some Slamming the ‘Regressive’ Tariff | Video | TheBlaze.com:

"Philadelphia became the first major American city with a soda tax Thursday, despite much criticism for the resolution and a multi-million campaign by the beverage industry to block it.

In a final 13-4 vote, the Philadelphia City Council passed a 1.5-cents-per-ounce tax on all sugar-added and artificially-sweetened soft drinks, according to WPVI-TV. The tax would add 18 cents to the cost of a can of soda, $1.08 to the cost of a six-pack and $1.02 to the cost a two-liter bottle."

Evolution of a Trump Supporter

Articles: Evolution of a Trump Supporter:
"I’m not a wishy-washy or indecisive person but jumping aboard the Trump Train has, at times, felt more like riding an emotional roller coaster than an iron horse.
One day I’m the person talking others into voting for Donald Trump and then, just when I’m ready to throw my full weight behind him, he’ll say something or I’ll read an article or have a conversation with someone, and I start second-guessing myself.
I am not alone.
Millions of conservatives, who supported candidates other than Donald Trump but are committed to vote for the Republican nominee, suffer from this affliction.
We understand what Trump is doing and what his appeal is -- and we wholeheartedly concur.
But, we question his devotion to conservative principles and have concerns about how he will govern. We want to stand by our conservative convictions but we also want to be pragmatic.
We aren’t #nevertrumpers.
We will vote for Anyone But Hillary.
We do not want to stay home on Election Day.
We do not want a third-party candidate -- and we certainly don’t want to vote for Gary Johnson.
We do not want this vote to go to the House.
We do not want to do anything to hand a victory to Clinton.
We want to vote for the most conservative candidate who can win -- and that clearly is Trump -- but we don’t want it on our shoulders if he turns out to be a dud.
The schemes of the #nevertrumpers do not appeal to us nor are they viable.
Their never-ending quest for a better, more palatable candidate is at best a pipe dream.
Their insistence that Trump will ruin the country, fails to acknowledge that that country is already long gone, has been decimated by eight years of Obama, and will never recover from a Hillary presidency.
Their concern that Trump would usher in the death of the GOP is blind to the fact that the GOP is already in a death spiral.
...Even worse, they have put their playground politics ahead of national security by refusing to join forces with the one candidate who isn’t afraid to say Islamic. Radical. Jihad.
If they truly believe that a Clinton back in the Oval Office, a Democrat-controlled Congress, and a Supreme Court stocked with young, healthy progressives will teach the rest of the GOP a lesson, then they should just buy a pitcher of Kool-Aid pitcher and get it over with: they are not Republicans or conservatives.
...When Paul Ryan hemorrhages about Trump not being P.C., he sends a message to the millions backing Trump because of his anti-PC approach, that he really doesn’t have our six.
Not only is Ryan doing the unthinkable and downright treasonous -- siding with the Democrat-Media Complex -- but he has become a general in the P.C. Army, wielding his cudgel of political correctness against…his own kin.
...Sure, Trump has a shtick. But there is an authenticity to his shtick.
It isn’t feigned.
It isn’t newfangled. Donald’s political shtick today is the same shtick he had as a real estate developer, a casino builder, and a reality show host.
Truth be told, Trump is as much a cult of personality as Obama is -- and maybe that is how we win elections in the 21st Century.
Obama had little to no real political experience, but was uber-successful in marketing the persona of Barack Obama.
...Trump is the mirror image of everything political that has been thrown our way -- he is not politically correct, he is not rehearsed, he is not scripted, he is himself, and he doesn’t care about the press.
...I remain wishy-washy no more.
With 49 dead in Orlando, the Supreme Court hanging by a thread, a country more divided than ever, and an economy on the verge of collapse, it’s hard to imagine how the #nevertrumpers couldn’t see the obvious… unless, of course, they’ve already drunk the Kool-Aid."

51% of U.S. Muslims want Sharia; 60% of young Muslims more loyal to Islam than to U.S.

51% of U.S. Muslims want Sharia; 60% of young Muslims more loyal to Islam than to U.S.
Really, what did you expect?
A considerable portion of U.S. domestic and foreign policy is based on the assumption that Islam in the U.S. will be different: that Muslims here believe differently from those elsewhere, and do not accept the doctrines of violence against and subjugation of unbelievers that have characterized Islam throughout its history.
But on what is that assumption based?
Nothing but wishful thinking.
And future generations of non-Muslims will pay the price.
Muslims_Pray_Capitol
“Meanwhile, An Islamic Fifth Column Builds Inside America,” by Paul Sperry, IBD, October 1, 2015 (thanks to Pamela Geller)
In berating GOP presidential hopeful Ben Carson for suggesting a loyalty test for Muslims seeking high office, CNN host Jake Tapper maintained that he doesn’t know a single observant Muslim-American who wants to Islamize America.
“I just don’t know any Muslim-Americans — and I know plenty — who feel that way, even if they are observant Muslims,” he scowled.
Tapper doesn’t get out much. If he did, chances are he’d run into some of the 51% of Muslims living in the U.S. who just this June told Polling Co. they preferred having “the choice of being governed according to Shariah,” or Islamic law.
Or the 60% of Muslim-Americans under 30 who told Pew Research they’re more loyal to Islam than America.
Maybe they’re all heretics, so let’s see what the enlightened Muslims think.
If Tapper did a little independent research he’d quickly find that America’s most respected Islamic leaders and scholars also want theocracy, not democracy, and even advocate trading the Constitution for the Quran.
These aren’t fringe players.
These are the top officials representing the Muslim establishment in America today.Hopefully none of them ever runs for president, because here’s what he’d have to say about the U.S. system of government:
• Muzammil Siddiqi, chairman of both the Fiqh Council of North America, which dispenses Islamic rulings, and the North American Islamic Trust, which owns most of the mosques in the U.S.: “As Muslims, we should participate in the system to safeguard our interests and try to bring gradual change, (but) we must not forget that Allah’s rules have to be established in all lands, and all our efforts should lead to that direction.”
• Omar Ahmad, co-founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the top Muslim lobby group in Washington: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Quran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”
CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper: “I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future.”
• Imam Siraj Wahhaj, director of the Muslim Alliance in North America: “In time, this so-called democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing. And the only thing that will remain will be Islam.”
• Imam Zaid Shakir, co-founder of Zaytuna College in Berkeley, Calif.: “If we put a nationwide infrastructure in place and marshaled our resources, we’d take over this country in a very short time. . . . What a great victory it will be for Islam to have this country in the fold and ranks of the Muslims.”…

House rejects effort to ban illegal immigrants from military service

House rejects effort to ban illegal immigrants from military service | TheHill:
"In a break from previous votes on the issue, the House on Thursday rejected two GOP proposals to prevent the Obama administration from enlisting young illegal immigrants to serve in the military.
Lawmakers voted down two measures offered by immigration hard-liners Reps. Steve King (R-Iowa) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) that would have prohibited the use of federal money to enlist young illegal immigrants who have been granted work permits under President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
More than 30 Republicans with more centrist views on immigration joined all Democrats in opposing the two amendments offered to a Defense Department spending bill.
The amendments failed narrowly with votes of 207-214 and 210-211, respectively.
...Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), an Iraq War veteran, argued that the military should be able to recruit anyone who could help the nation.
“Simply put, we shouldn’t let political posturing stand in the way of our military’s requirement goals,” Gallego said..."

"Stern then illustrated his point with an analogy equating the public to sheep, the terrorists to wolves and the military and police as sheepdogs. And even as Stern humorously imitated a generally passive, sheep-like populace with bleating noises — baaaa — his analogy was chilling at a deeper level.

“Now, let’s say I walked up literally to a sheep herd, and they know that every night the wolves pick off a couple of them,” Stern said. “What if I went up to the sheep and I said,"

Then you get subpoenaed by the Massachusetts attorney general over your think-tank’s supposed ties to ExxonMobil — the claim being that the oil giant allegedly attempted to cover up global warming science.

And how did Alex Epstein, author of “The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels,” respond to Maura Healey’s subpoena on Wednesday?"

It looks like Congress is poised to fire DOZENS of generals | BizPac Review:
"The 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) as summarized by the Senate Armed Services Committee proposes a 25 percent reduction in Generals and Admirals across the board.
A summary of the bill provided by the committee states the drawdown in general officers also applies at the 3, 2, and 1 star levels.
The committee reasons that “Over the past 30 years, the end-strength of the joint force has decreased 38 percent, but the ratio of four-star officers to the overall force has increased by 65 percent.”
Senator Tim Kaine expressed concern over the reduction in general officers, telling Military.com, “Twenty-five percent was the number that was pulled out of thin air.”..."

Why We Need Alpha Males

Why We Need Alpha Males | Intellectual Takeout:
My colleague, Annie Holmquist, discovered some statistics about the decline in masculinity that have troubled me since the moment I looked over them.
Here’s the key part of her piece:
“In recent years, a mildly trending topic of discussion has been the question, ‘Where have all the men gone?’
While there are a number of theories as to the answer, a British survey just released by YouGov may shed some light on the issue.
Among other things, the survey asked participants about their impressions of the word “masculinity” and found a surprising generational gap:
‘Both young men and young women have a lower opinion of 'masculinity' than older people, but young men are harsher critics of the concept than young women.
In contrast, the majority of young men (58%) have a positive impression of 'femininity', as do the majority of young women (55%).
Overall 'femininity' has a net positivity score of +56 compared to +44 for 'masculinity'.’”
And the chart:

For those who believe the patriarchy is the root of much evil in the world, these numbers are probably cause for celebration.
But perhaps not.
While young men are giving up on their manhood, women still seem to want it.
As Annie asked, “Where have all the good men gone?”
Well, they’ve been beaten down.
Many of them lack a strong father at home, having been raised by a single mother.
The education system does little to nothing to help boys grow into good men.
On TV, in movies, and in commercials, when do they see a strong, virtuous male?
Only two come close to the traditional portrayals of strong, men.
One is Captain America.
And even he is a super hero, not a real man..."

When Everything Is a Crime: Harvey Silverglate on the Overregulation of Ordinary Life

When Everything Is a Crime: Harvey Silverglate on the Overregulation of Ordinary Life - Reason.com:
"Few people understand the price of over regulation like Harvey Silverglate.
Over his long career as an attorney and journalist, Silverglate has seen a rising bureaucratic class enact hundreds of thousands of federal regulations and vaguely-worded statutes.
The result has been the criminalization of everyday life.
From university campuses to corporate boardrooms, ever more citizens are facing severe punishments for behavior that was once considered harmless.
Silverglate himself has been repeatedly pursued by the FBI, only to see the investigations come to nothing.
But the longtime civil libertarian is optimistic for change.
Now that the regulatory state has grown so complex that powerful people are getting tripped up in their own rules, Silverglate thinks reform is possible.
Regarding the trial of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell for the vague charge of honest services fraud, he said: "People who wouldn't agree on what day of the week this is, agreed that the Department of Justice was becoming almost a terrorist organization with respect to state, local, and even federal public officials.
That's what causes change: the people in power begin to get hurt by their own system."

"REMINDER: It Was John Brennan Himself Who Halted LEO Training on Islam, Jihad.
John Brennan is the person who — after U.S. Muslim groups demanded he do so – “purged” all mention of Islam and jihad from law enforcement counter-terror training materials in 2011.

A chief reason that the Islamic State’s “global reach” has not been reduced is because the U.S. has failed to identify, confront, and oppose the ideology that has enabled it to amass “a large cadre of Western fighters.”
That ideology has spread unchecked in the U.S. in large part because Brennan didn’t think it was worth teaching law enforcement about it.
Terror attacks that kill Americans produce budget increases.
Charges of Islamophobia are career-ending.
Incentives matter."

Orlando Shooter Raised Suspicion at Gun Shops

Orlando Shooter Raised Suspicion at Gun Shops - WSJ
JENSEN BEACH, Fla.— Omar Mateen visited a gun shop in this town near his home about five or six weeks ago.
His request: heavy-duty body armor—rated IIIA, the sort typically used by law enforcement—and bulk ammunition.
While at the store, Mateen had a phone conversation in which he appeared to be speaking in a Middle Eastern language, according to Robbie Abell, the co-owner of the store, Lotus Gunworks of South Florida. Staffers also noticed him texting on his phone.
Mateen “just seemed very odd,” Mr. Abell said.
“The questions he was asking [about body armor] were not the normal questions a normal person would be asking.”
Lotus Gunworks doesn’t carry armor.
Employees declined to sell Mateen bulk ammunition, turning him away.
“If something is suspicious, it’s our discretion,” Mr. Abell said.
“We are the gatekeeper.”
The FBI is in the process of reconstructing all of Mateen’s movements ahead of the shooting at an Orlando gay nightclub that left 49 dead and 53 injured early Sunday.
The FBI is also looking into other parts of the gunman’s life, including his time at a corrections-officer academy.
In 2007, he was kicked out of the school after an incident that led authorities to escort him off the campus, according to three former trainees in the program then.

Philadelphia just became the first major US city to pass a soda tax

Philadelphia just became the first major US city to pass a soda tax | VICE News:
"Philadelphia became the first major American city to impose a tax on soda drinks, leveling a 1.5 cent tax per ounce on the beverages despite a massive anti-tax campaign waged by the beverage industry and bodega owners.
The Philadelphia City Council passed the tax — which will apply to both sugar-sweetened and diet beverages — in a 13-4 vote.
Democratic Mayor Jim Kenney sold the plan by vowing to spend the $90 million in estimated new annual tax revenue on prekindergarten, community schools, and recreation centers.
..The tax will apply to sodas, flavored waters, bottled coffees, energy and sports drinks, teas, and other products, and could end up adding up to 18 cents to the cost of a 12-ounce can, $2.16 to the cost of a 12-pack, and $1 to the cost of a 2-liter, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
More than 68 percent of adults and 41 percent of children are overweight or obese in Philadelphia, according to the AP."
