LOWER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE:
Alexandria cops bust 10-year-old for bringing toy gun to school.
The boy, a fifth-grader at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School whose name is not being released, was charged as a juvenile with brandishing a weapon, police said. . . .
When the boy arrived, authorities found the toy in his backpack.
He was taken into custody, transported to a juvenile detention center for booking and then released to his parents, Hildebrandt said.
“The safety of our students is always our first concern,” Sherman said. “We appreciate the quick response and action by our police.”

Your students were always safe, because it was a toy gun.
Except they’re not safe from overweening officialdom, who can’t tell the difference between a dangerous weapon and a toy gun.
Or, more accurately, who choose to ignore the difference.
Sending your kids to public school is looking more and more like parental malpractice.

Goodbye, Prius? Japanese carmakers drop battery electric-car development - Washington Times
"Japan is backtracking on battery electric-car development, as even Nissan’s vice chairman, the so-called “father of the Prius,” announced plans to copy Toyota and pursue fuel-cell cars that convert hydrogen to electricity.
“Because of its shortcomings — driving range, cost and recharging time — the electric vehicle is not a viable replacement for most conventional cars,” said Toyota’s vice chairman, Takeshi Uchiyamada, in a Reuters report. “We need something entirely new.”"

Snyder to enter brewing Medicaid battle

Snyder to enter brewing Medicaid battle | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com
"Gov. Rick Snyder will fire the first shot in the next health care skirmish Thursday when he recommends in his budget presentation to the Legislature whether Michigan should open Medicaid to as many as half a million more residents.
Under the 2010 Affordable Care Act, the federal government has promised to pay all costs for three years for residents added to the federal health insurance program for low-income people in states that raise income eligibility.
Federal payments would decline to 90 percent from 2017 to 2020 and would never go lower, according to the law.
The long-term addition of 400,000 to 500,000 Medicaid recipients would result in an additional $1.5 billion to $2 billion a year in federal health spending in Michigan. "
