"UK fact-checking group Full Fact has been given a large cash injection by the Open Society Foundations, and Omidyar Network to produce two new tools to counter what it calls “misinformation”.
Full Fact announced the $500,000 (£386,000) donation on Thursday, explaining that the money is to build and launch ‘Live’ and ‘Trends’, automated tools which the charity hopes will make their ‘fact-checking’ findings much more influential."

"When the Ferguson race riots first broke out, the media made much of the "militaristic" police. 
Some on the "right", shamefully joined in those attacks. 
At least until the tide clearly went against them.
There is a reason that police have to armor up. 
And when police are told not to protect themselves so they don't look militaristic, the Black Lives Matters killers have an easier time getting at them.
That's what the report about the Black Nationalist massacre of police officers in Dallas tells us.

The I-Team has learned the officers assigned to the rally in downtown Dallas last July – where five officers were killed and nine wounded – were told not to wear certain heavy protective gear because it would make them look too “militaristic.”

"The media have begun celebrating the drop in Detroit’s unemployment rate.
 Media reports note that the city’s unemployment rate stood at 7.5 percent in May, the lowest in 17 years.
The city’s unemployment rate was 8.4 percent in April.
Linking to a news article on the drop in unemployment, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley tweeted, “Michigan is the comeback state and Detroit is the comeback city.”
 An article in MLive attributed some of the drop to new construction projects, saying that developers who get tax incentives from the city usually agree to hire Detroit residents.​
 ​​​​​​ForTheRecord says: Missing from media accounts was the decreasing labor force in Detroit.
 James Hohman, director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, said that about two-thirds of the drop in the city’s unemployment rate is due to a smaller labor force.
 Hohman said the number of employed city residents went up 15,856 between May 2010 and May 2017.
That was a 7.6 percent gain.
But Hohman pointed out there were also 33,619 fewer people in the labor force, a 12.2 percent loss.
If the city had added the same number of jobs but also maintained the size of its May 2010 labor force, the unemployment rate would be 18.8 percent..."

"There is little in the news today quite as delightful as watching the mainstream media do the CNN Two-Step. The CNN Two-Step is a simple dance.
Step One: Put your foot in your mouth.
Step Two: Shoot yourself in the foot.
The results are bloody but hilarious.
The latest iteration comes from CNN's own Jim Acosta.
Acosta seems to have modeled himself on the Grandfather of Fake News, Dan Rather.
Rather made his name by shouting biased and hostile questions at a president despised of the elite.
Acosta has made a fool of himself doing the same thing.
Acosta beclowned himself most recently (as of this writing; it's hard to keep up) filing a sneering, unprofessional report on the president's press conference in Poland.
Acosta scornfully called it a "fake news conference":
...The media might use this opportunity to stop dancing the CNN Two-Step — to stop blowing their own heads off in other words — and take stock.
They might ignore Donald Trump's manners and ask themselves whether perhaps he has a point, whether perhaps their industry is desperately in need of reform.
But they can't.
Because there is one simple fact they don't get: 
Trump's attacks on the press aren't a bug in the administration. 
They're a feature.
...after sixteen years of snarling contempt from the fancy-pants mouthpieces of large media corporations, the American people elected Donald Trump, in part at least, to send the media a message.
The message is:
Go to hell.
It's about time the press received it loud and clear."
