NRA Lawsuit against New York DFS: Department Sets a Dangerous Precedent | National Review
NRA Lawsuit against New York DFS: Department Sets a Dangerous Precedent | National Review:
"Seeing regulators open this Pandora’s box should be deeply concerning to those on both the right and the left. One easily could imagine similar motivated prosecutions of financial-services firms that do business with Planned Parenthood, tobacco companies, tech firms, the solar industry, or even the political campaigns of rival parties. The precedent set by these blatantly political regulatory actions undermines not only the insurance market, but the rule of law."

Will Victims of a Ponzi Scheme Now Pay for a Diversity Scheme? - WSJ
"A federal judge in Mississippi uses a fraud case as a vehicle for his social agenda.
On Friday in Mississippi, federal District Judge Carlton Reeves surprised government lawyers by ordering that the appointment of a receiver to recover assets for fraud victims should serve as a vehicle to promote diversity in the legal profession.
“It is indisputable that systematic oppression lies behind much of the judiciary’s lack of diversity,” wrote the Obama appointee in his order establishing a process to select a receiver to go after the money taken from investors.
...And while defrauded investors surely value the search for truth, they are also no doubt eager for a receiver to begin an immediate search for their money.
...The Clarion Ledger previously noted that among the victims was the state’s Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker. The Clarion Ledger reported:
“My wife and I are victims of this apparent fraud,” Wicker said in a statement late Thursday. “Like many others who stand to lose money in this scheme, we are very surprised and disappointed. We are learning of this through news reports like everyone else. We are seeking answers as to how this happened and will continue to monitor this matter closely.”
...Whatever one thinks about government programs intended to increase diversity, is there an argument that the burden of advancing such efforts should fall on the victims of a Ponzi scheme—right at the moment they are trying to recover their stolen nest eggs?

22 Of 498 Michigan Legislators Said 'No' To Corporate Welfare Since 2001 [Michigan Capitol Confidential]
"Michigan state Rep. Steven Johnson was one of 22 current and former legislators who voted against every business subsidy authorization that came before them since 2001...
Johnson represents the 72nd District, which covers parts of Allegan and Kent counties.
The (2018) business subsidies benefited:
- a Lansing developer,
- a multi-national electronics manufacturing company headquartered in Taiwan, and
- Dan Gilbert, who owns the Cleveland Cavaliers and is a major developer in downtown Detroit.
Johnson submitted his stance on corporate welfare in a statement to Michigan Capitol Confidential:
We should have a business climate that is appealing to all businesses, and we should encourage business growth in our districts by lowering taxes across the board in the state of Michigan for everybody.
Studies show that Michigan could drastically cut the state business tax and the state income tax if we didn’t subsidize these large corporations off the backs of everybody else.
For these and many other reasons, I am opposed to corporate welfare and would like to see a level playing field for all.”"
NPR Guest: Too Many Young People Have Never Worked | Intellectual Takeout
"Headlines in 2018 seem to tell a recurring story:
Unemployment rates are lower than ever.
...But many of us have overlooked another set of unemployment numbers – numbers which are soaring and signaling a tale of doom for those caught up in the vicious cycle.
Who are these unknown unemployed?
Quite simply, they are our children.
Columnist and author Katherine Reynolds Lewis makes this case in a recent interview with NPR.
According to Lewis, the focus on helping children succeed in all kinds of extracurricular activities has prevented parents from involving their children in chores and other household responsibilities.
As a result, these children are excluded from the valuable lessons and sense of community, value, and belonging that these chores bring.
"They're not asked to do anything to contribute to a neighborhood or family or community," Lewis told NPR. "And that really erodes their sense of self-worth — just as it would with an adult being unemployed."
She continued:
“To be straight-A students and athletic superstars, gifted musicians and artists — which are all wonderful goals, but they are long-term and pretty narcissistic.
They don't have that sense of contribution and belonging in a family the way that a simple household chore does, like helping a parent prepare a meal.
Anyone who loves to cook knows it's so satisfying to feed someone you love and to see that gratitude and enjoyment on their faces.
And kids today are robbed of that.
It's part of the work of the family..."

Fred Fleitz, John Bolton recruit, in SPLC 'smear campaign' - Washington Times
Fred Fleitz, John Bolton recruit, in SPLC 'smear campaign' - Washington Times:
"A senior NSC official told The Washington Times that the “baseless … vengeful smear campaign” is coordinated by the Southern Poverty Law Center. A legal advocacy nonprofit specializing in civil rights, the SPLC has thrived on liberal funding, targeted conservatives such as Mr. Fleitz, assigned derogatory labels and won coverage among Washington media.
“Many of the attacks originated from the left Southern Poverty Law Center, which in recent years has raised money by putting out press releases or statements falsely grouping conservative Americans with neo-Nazis and white supremacists,” the NSC official said.
Mr. Fleitz is a prominent conservative scholar recruited last week by National Security Adviser John R. Bolton as he revamps a staff inherited from retired Army Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster."

VIDEO: Student explodes over anti-socialist event
"Liberals often say they are the ones of tolerance and diversity, but when someone puts on a pro-capitalism display, they lose their minds." Tweet This
Incensed by the display, an outraged individual approached the TPUSA students as they were tabling nearby, ripping up their anti-socialist posters and calling them “a bunch of f***ing Trump supporters,” club members told Campus Reform.
