Nikki Haley is killing it at the United Nations - Washington Times

Nikki Haley is killing it at the United Nations - Washington Times:

And the world is taking notice.
“While procedural maneuvers were used to block it, we’re proud that by working with the Americans and our friends around the world, a majority of nations in the U.N. voted for the first time to condemn the terrorists of Hamas,” tweeted Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon.
That’s huge. That’s historic. And that’s the big stick Haley’s been carrying for some time at the global body.

NASA glaciologist Jay Zwally puts the hammer down: ‘Antarctica is gaining ice’ | Watts Up With That?

NASA glaciologist Jay Zwally puts the hammer down: ‘Antarctica is gaining ice’ | Watts Up With That?
"A new paper about to be in press, comes at the end of a flurry of papers and reports published this week that claims Antarctica was losing ice mass. Zwally says ice growth is anywhere from 50 gigatons to 200 gigatons a year.

NASA glaciologist Jay Zwally says his new study will show, once again, the eastern Antarctic ice sheet is gaining enough ice to offset losses in the west.

A recent paper claims Antarctica’s net ice loss has dramatically increased in recent years, but forthcoming research will challenge that claim.
NASA glaciologist Jay Zwally first challenged the “consensus” on Antarctica in 2015 when he published a paper showing ice sheet growth in eastern Antarctica outweighed the losses in the western ice sheet.
Zwally will again challenge the prevailing narrative of how global warming is affecting the South Pole.
Zwally said his new study will show, once again, the eastern Antarctic ice sheet is gaining enough ice to offset losses in the west..."

Jordan Peterson and Conservatism’s Rebirth - WSJ
See the source image"The psychologist and YouTube star has brought the concepts of order and tradition back to our intellectual discourse.
Jordan Peterson doesn’t seem to think of himself as a conservative.
Yet there he is, standing in the space once inhabited by conservative thinkers such as G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, Russell Kirk, William F. Buckley Jr. and Irving Kristol.
Addressing a public that seems incapable of discussing anything but freedom, Mr. Peterson presents himself unmistakably as a philosophical advocate of order.
His bestselling book, “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos,” makes sense of ideas like the “hierarchy of place, position and authority,” as well as people’s most basic attachments to “tribe, religion, hearth, home and country” and “the flag of the nation.” The startling success of his elevated arguments for the importance of order has made him the most significant conservative thinker to appear in the English-speaking world in a generation.
Mr. Peterson, 56, is a University of Toronto professor and a clinical psychologist.
Over the past two years he has rocketed to fame, especially online and in contentious TV interviews..."

Tip: Pentagon Covering Up Fact That Female Officers Nearly Sank Navy Ship : The Other McCain: "An anonymous email came in over the transom this morning:
Hi, Stacy.
During the early weeks after the USS Fitzgerald was speared by a lumbering Philippine container ship, it was noteworthy that the captain and a couple of admirals were publically named, but not the actual officer in charge, the officer of the deck. (OOD)
The other person who should have kept the Fitz out of trouble is the person in charge of the combat information center, the Tactical Action Officer.
That individual is supposed to be monitoring the combat radar, which can detect a swimmer at a distance of two miles.
Not until a year later, when the final reports are made public and the guilty parties have been court-martialed, does the truth come out.
The OOD was named Sarah, and the Tactical Action Officer was named Natalie, and they weren’t speaking to each other!!!
The Tactical Action Officer would normally be in near constant communication with the OOD, but there is no record of any communication between them that entire shift!
Another fun fact: In the Navy that won WWII, the damage control officers were usually some of the biggest and strongest men aboard, able to close hatches, shore up damaged areas with timbers, etc. The Fitz’s damage control officer was also a woman, and she never left the bridge.
She handled the aftermath of the accident remotely, without lifting a finger herself!
Look it up: The OOD was Sarah Coppock, Tactical Action Officer was Natalie Combs. . . .
When I noticed last year that they were doing all they could to keep the OOD’s name out of the headlines, I speculated to my son that it was a she.
Turns out all the key people (except one officer in the CIC) were female!...

NYT focuses on small math test gap favoring some boys while downplaying much larger reading test gap favoring girls - AEI

"The chart above (with the red ellipses added) is from the New York Times article “Where Boys Outperform Girls in Math: Rich, White and Suburban Districts” and is based on 260 million standardized reading and math test scores for third through eighth graders in nearly every district in the country.
Here’s the story’s lead:
In much of the country, the stereotype that boys do better than girls at math isn’t true – on average, they perform about the same, at least through eighth grade.
See the source imageBut there’s a notable exception.
In school districts that are mostly rich, white and suburban, boys are much more likely to outperform girls in math, according to a new study from Stanford researchers, one of the most comprehensive looks at the gender gap in test scores at the school district level.
As Warren Meyer points out on the Coyote Blog:
If your first reaction was something like “wow, the gender gap in favor of girls in English simply dwarfs any gender gap that exists in favor of boys in math,” you had the same reaction as I did.
All I could think was that all this discussion of getting more girls in STEM is a fine aspiration, but my God, boys in English are a dumpster fire.
I saw the chart standalone like this before I flipped to the source New York Times article and read more.
And, incredibly, this is the title of the article: “Where Boys Outperform Girls in Math: Rich, White and Suburban Districts.”...

Feminist bookstore to close this month, blames white supremacy - The College Fix

Feminist bookstore to close this month, blames white supremacy - The College Fix
See the source image"A quarter-century-old feminist bookstore in Portland, Oregon is slated to close its doors at the end of this month, and part of the reason, it says, is its “inability to ‘reform and re-envision’ a space founded on ‘white, cis feminism (read: white supremacy).'”
In Other Words, founded in 1993 by Portland State University professor Johanna Brenner and a pair of women’s health activists, also cited difficulty with funding and a lack of volunteers.
According to The Oregonian, the store’s mission is  “to strengthen resistance against a culture of oppression. We seek to create a safer space where women, people of color, queer, trans, gender variant folks, workers, and those who live at the intersections of these identities can organize for self-determination and build a sustainable movement for liberation.”...
