Trump’s Immigration Policies Are Actually Pretty Popular.

Instapundit Blog Archive MOLLIE HEMINGWAY: Trump’s Immigration Policies Are Actually Pretty Popular.
"MOLLIE HEMINGWAY: Trump’s Immigration Policies Are Actually Pretty Popular.
When asked which policy they prefer for how to handle families that are stopped for crossing the border illegally, two-thirds of the 1,500 surveyed said they support detention for lawbreakers and less than 20 percent responded that they support previous presidential administrations’ policy of letting the lawbreakers enter the country with a promise to return for a later court date. The poll was taken June 17-19, at the height of media outrage over the policy.

When given a choice for how to handle illegal border crossing arrests, some 44 percent of Americans chose “hold families together in family detention centers until an immigration hearing at a later date.” Another 20 percent of U.S. adults chose detention options that would separate families. Only 19 percent chose to return to the policy of allowing people who cross the border illegally to go without detention on the promise they’d return for a court hearing at a later date.

The Economist/YouGov poll shows an American electorate fare more serious about border enforcement than what the media conversation would indicate.
The media’s got this — or at least they think they do."

Plus-size clothing and overweight models are normalising obesity, warn experts
"The normalisation of 'plus-size' clothing and overweight models could be fuelling the obesity epidemic because it leads people to underestimate their own weight, a new study has shown.
A still from Swimsuits for AllĂ‚ The plus-size movement may help promote body positivity but it is having the unintentional consequence that people start believing they are a healthy weight, researchers claim.
Sociologists from the University of East Anglia said it could undermine efforts to tackle the obesity epidemic where more than three in five Britons are overweight or obese.
....“The increase in weight misperception in England is alarming and possibly a result of this normalisation.”...

Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and Kevin Clinesmith, anti-Trump FBI employees, joined Robert Mueller probe - Washington Times

Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and Kevin Clinesmith, anti-Trump FBI employees, joined Robert Mueller probe - Washington Times:

Only one lawyer donated to Republicans, contributing the maximum amount of $2,750. In total, the probe’s prosecutors donated $19,000 to Hillary Clinton’s 2008 and 2016 political campaigns, according to Mr. Mueller’s office.
But some media outlets have claimed the numbers underestimate the amount of Democratic donations by as much as $12,000. The donation discrepancy only further raises the bias accusations lodged against Mr. Mueller’s team, which Mr. Trump has repeatedly highlighted.

If the Media Keeps This Up, They're Going to Get Somebody Killed - The Rush Limbaugh Show

If the Media Keeps This Up, They're Going to Get Somebody Killed - The Rush Limbaugh Show
"RUSH: Okay, folks, I’m just gonna say it here.
If the media keeps this up — if they keep up generating this hysteria — somebody’s gonna get killed.
I think we’re pretty close to somebody getting killed already, and I’m not being hyperbolic, and I’m not trying to call attention to myself.
I’m genuinely worried about the out-of-control aspect of this.
The news media’s fanning the flames.
The news media is leading the way on this.
It’s again an oxymoron.
News media?
There is no media, and none of this is news.
It’s a manufactured crisis — that is one of many — after Donald Trump committed an unpardonable sin — and that was winning the presidential election.
This today is not about kids and the way they’re being treated anywhere.
This is about Donald Trump winning and these people not being able to do anything about it.
Look at everything they’ve thrown at Trump.
They’ve had full-blown intelligence community FBI, CIA, DOJ, special counsel investigations all happening simultaneously designed to drive Donald Trump from office in six months.
Failed.
Every one of them has failed.
Donald Trump’s popularity is increasing.
His approval numbers are increasing.
Overall satisfaction in the country is rising..."

"‘Concentration Camp’: People React To Photos Of Trump’s Detention Centers — Just Kidding, They Were Obama’s
TheDC’s Amber Athey and Justin Caruso regularly take to the streets of Washington, D.C., to ask the most important questions in America.
This week, they showed people a number of photos taken of detention centers for migrant children.
Clearly, President Trump is keeping these kids in such horrible conditions … just kidding, that was President Obama in 2014.
That’s right, they showed people around D.C. photos from detention centers that were run in 2014 under President Obama.
Some of the reactions may surprise you."

Starbucks burned by social-justice appeasement as growth stalls, stock plunges - Washington Times:

“One would think Starbucks shareholders would be better served by leadership that prioritizes sound business principles over so-called social justice initiatives,” said Robert Kuykendall, spokesman for 2ndVote, a conservative corporate watchdog.

The $1.5 Trillion Student Loan Debacle Hits a Tipping Point - Minding The Campus

"What’s to be done about the large and growing number of Americans who cannot repay their student loans?
There are two new developments.

  • The New York Times reports, “Senators Marco Rubio and Elizabeth Warren introduced a bill on Thursday that would prevent states from suspending residents’ driver’s licenses and professional licenses over unpaid federal student loans.”
  • And The Wall Street Journal explains, “For decades, bankruptcy judges refused to consider reducing student loans.

That is now changing, and some judges are throwing lifelines to people struggling to repay their debt.”...

Subway station ceiling tile crumbles - Story | WNYW
NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - The Borough Hall subway station in Brooklyn is more than 100 years old and is known to have water problems.

That issue led to a ceiling collapse on Wednesday.
A 10-feet-by-10-feet section of ceiling tile came crashing down onto the 4/5 subway platform.
...With service seriously disrupted on the No. 4 and No. 5 lines, agents and officers tried their best to redirect riders.
The grumble of New Yorkers won't be happy to hear what they probably already know: that this isn't an isolated incident.
All one needs do is look around to see that the infrastructure is crumbling.
...Subway service was restored by the end of the evening rush hour.
But the problem of the aging infrastructure will persist."

Thirty Years On, How Well Do Global Warming Predictions Stand Up? - WSJ

Thirty Years On, How Well Do Global Warming Predictions Stand Up? - WSJ:
"James E. Hansen wiped sweat from his brow.
Outside it was a record-high 98 degrees on June 23, 1988, as the NASA scientist testified before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources during a prolonged heat wave, which he decided to cast as a climate event of cosmic significance.
He expressed to the senators his “high degree of confidence” in “a cause-and-effect relationship between the greenhouse effect and observed warming.”
With that testimony and an accompanying paper in the Journal of Geophysical Research, Mr. Hansen lit the bonfire of the greenhouse vanities, igniting a world-wide debate that continues today about the energy structure of the entire planet.
President Obama’s environmental policies were predicated on similar models of rapid, high-cost warming.
See the source imageBut the 30th anniversary of Mr. Hansen’s predictions affords an opportunity to see how well his forecasts have done—and to reconsider environmental policy accordingly.
...Global surface temperature has not increased significantly since 2000, discounting the larger-than-usual El Nino of 2015-16.
...And it isn’t just Mr. Hansen who got it wrong.
Models devised by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have, on average, predicted about twice as much warming as has been observed since global satellite temperature monitoring began 40 years ago.
...On the 30th anniversary of Mr. Hansen’s galvanizing testimony, it’s time to acknowledge that the rapid warming he predicted isn’t happening..."
